You are leaving Vcore on auto for this testing Bex?
When I first got my X58/i7 system, I tried a little o/c to 3.2GHz, and I left the Vcore on auto, and when I checked it in CPUZ it had set it right up to 1.3500v!!
I only need like 1.165v for 3.2GHz iirc!
The motherboard overvolts like crazy when things are left on auto, I really don't think it's a good idea tbh...
Blunt did you finally get a 200*21 steady settings setup?
Post them if you did mate.![]()

Results for 4.2Ghz!!!
Since breaking the 200BCLK "Extreme" setting shows it's colours and brings 210x20 above turbo boost! So less volts, less heat and more performance! (winning by 0.016s)
Hope that helps some more people - testing 4.4Ghz but I've got some wierd results so far....

So my GA-EX58-UD5 showed up today i got it installed however something is not working. It lights all up but no display to the monitor. The digets show 69 which in the manual says "Turn on L2 cache". After a while it turns to 6F which is "1. Initialize floppy controller
2. Set up floppy related fields in 40:hardware".
Any tips?

I'll be setting up my new UD5 mobo with an i7 950 and a 6GB Patriot Viper PC3-12800 C8 kit in a couple of days .. and I was wondering how stable the F9E BIOS was .. Otherwise i'll just make sure I'm using the F7 BIOS that supports the 950.

Hey guys, I've been running the UD5 for over a month now, and I love it. The past week I've been getting Thermalright stuff for the board. I have a HR-05 IFX non-sli for the IOH, a HR-05 SLi for the Southbridge, and the HR-09 U and S Trype3 for the mosfets.
Ok, I already installed both HR-05 heatsinks, then when I was about to install the HR-09U Type3 on the mosfets close to the I/O port, the damn thing can't fit! But for the HR-09 S Type3 for the upper mosfets is fine. So I checked the Thermalright site just to double check if I bought the right coolers for the mosfets, and yes, it's stated on the Motherboard Compatibility List: http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_pa.../05-09-mcl.htm
I measured the heatsinks for the mosfets of the stock heatpipe assembly and found out the measurements were the same as the HR-09 type4. That really sucks! I'm pissed off about it. Especially that it states on the list that it's compatible...but no it's not. :SIGH:...

Thinking of buying UD5 and a question started to bother me.
What BIOS version does UD5s come these days from factory? F3?
Asking cause i want to get i7 920 D0 or even Xeon W3520 and was wondering if it would work with them on stock BIOS.

Waiting for that same thing from bluntsmoker
Bought mine on May and came with the F4.
Had to update to F7 for the "support for the new i7 D0 cpu stepping".
I wouldnt worry though, mine booted with no problem with the D0 and the F4 bios. Even installed vista and drivers before i update to F7.

Ok i tried out these settings but they didnt work for me everytime it tried to boot it would say "BOOTMSG is missing" so i tried to put to vcore to 1.38v it would get to the Welcome screen and freeze and give me the blue screen with the numbers counting up to 100 and would restart on it self, any ideas?

Try an Uncore Frequency of x16 and leave Performance Enhance on standard.
Maybe try a DRAM Timing Selectable (sPD) on auto too.
I leave Load Line Calibration disabled.
Dont know what that CPU Clock Skew option does... why put it on 100ps and not leave it on default?
Unfortunately cant help you with the volts. Someone more experianced needed.

@ javanese, what is it you want to know mate?
If it is my voltages, they are set to 1.29v Vcore, and 1.275v Vtt, IOH Core is at 1.140v, QPI PLL @ 1.140v, 1.300v CPU PLL, and 1.66v VDimm.
CPU clock drive 800mV, PCIE clock drive 900mV.
I also have CPU clock skew at 100ps, as this really helped get my 4.2GHz o/c stable.
I spent about 4 days trying like crazy to get this clocks stable, I had even tested with my Vcore right up to 1.35v, and Vtt at 1.415v, but it would crash instantly with those voltages, I really was starting to think my chip wasn't capable of running at 4.2, but I think it was someone on here who suggested I tried lowering my voltages as having them to high can also cause things to be unstable, so I started playing around with lower voltages, and I finally found a stable o/c with those settings above.
If there are any other settings you aren't sure about, just ask me.
Maybe I'm just lucky, but overclocking up to 4.2 ghz I just raise the bclk to 200, cpu voltage @ 1.281, qpi/vtt @ 1.24 in the bios. I upped the dram voltage to get better timings, but with everything except cpuv & qpi on auto worked fine to get into windows. Stable.
For 4.4 Ghz cpuV goes to 1.387, qpi/vtt @ 1.3 & I bump the IOH to 1.2. All other setting can be auto (I do set my dram up manually for better performance).

Here some more things i 'd care for your suggestion mate.
*Those v settings are with LLC disabled, right?
Surprised with that 1.300v CPU PLL as it defaults at 1.800 when auto.
*Do you keep XMP enabled (if not, why?) and everything memory wise on auto?
*CPU clock drive 800mV and PCIE clock drive 900mV are the defaults on mine, weren't them on yours?
I'm a little afraid of that cpu skew option as I dont have the slightest clue what it is, but if it didnt blow up your mobowill give it a try too.
*What are your QPI Link Speed and Uncore Frequency settings?
Much obliged for your time sir
Will take my "four days" experimenting too and report back if successful.![]()

Still waiting a message from hicookie, because the solder picture was poseted I still needed a special bios? EX58 i7 UD5.
Anyway im having loads of trouble getting this sucker processor stable...
i7 920 D0 should be one of the best 920-s out there, infact the second best heh, It did 240bclk with turbo on on 1.500v! And 4500MHz on 1.35v! But im having trouble clocking this processor on the UD5, I cant get it to windows even on 1.2v at 4GHz, something is wrong me thinks, and i think that the UD5 is utter Bullfor overclocking. Im guessing the big problem lies in bclk, 200x20 is not stable on 1.2v but 190x20 is. I think I am gonna get the EVGA Classified and gonna keep this baby on 4500MHz 24\7 on 1.30v or smth. Im pretty baffeled about UD5-s poor performance, and the fact that I had to find out that bclk dilemma like this was horrid, I just should have kept my old ASUS P6T until Classified... jeez.
edit:
OMG, your settings work for me :o Im now stable on 200bclk with 1.25v vcore, ill try to lower it some more, but that helped BIG TIME! I would have never guessed to up the 100ps marker and never ever would have guessed to but cpu pll to 1.300v!! Also thx for the IOH volts! Before I got to windows and then when I saw desktop icons it froze or it didnt get even that far. Gonna go do some more tests now but this looks like im gonna get my 4500MHz 24\7!!! Hench, i really dont need the Classified so quick now, but then again I do want to bench over 5GHz with watercooling.

Hi everybody. I'm new on this forum. Really glad I found it too. I just finished a new build with an Core I7 920 D0 CPU and the Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Motherboard with Bios F9e. It all water cooled too. My full specs are in my sig.
Although I managed to get a stable 4.2Ghz (Turbo boost enabled), I am floored by the voltage requirements I had to set as well as the Idle and Full load temperatures that I'm getting. I was hoping you guys could give me some assistance.
Here are my Bios settings:
Because I am new to the Core I7 and X58 platform, I used this guide from GigabyteCode:CPU Clock Ratio [20x] QPI Clock Ratio [X36] BCLK [200] Advanced CPU Features Intel(R) Turbo Boost Tech [Enabled] CPU Cores Enabled [All] CPU Multi Threading [Enabled] CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) [Disabled] C3/C6/C7 State Support [Disabled] CPU Thermal Monitor [Enabled] CPU EIST Function [Disabled] Virtualization Technology [Disabled] Bi-Directional PROCHOT [Disabled] Uncore & QPI Features Uncore Clock Ratio [x17] Isonchronous Support [Enabled] Advanced Clock Control Base Clock (BCLK) Control [Enabled] PCI Express Frequency (MHz) [AUTO] C.I.A.2 [Disabled] CPU Clock Drive [ 800mV] PCI Express Clock Drive [ 900mV] CPU Clock Skew [ 0ps] IOH Clock Skew [ 0ps] Performance Enhance [Standard] Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.) Notice how high he sets the voltages for the Vcore and QPI/VTT !
Well, to get a stable 4.2 GHZ so did I apparently. I tried lower voltages but would get BSOD withing 2 minutes of ORTHOS. I can get a stable 4Ghz at 1.4V with Turbo Boost disabled.
Now here's where I get freaked out. While running Orthos (one instance for each core, 2 threads per instances) at 4.2 GHZ and the above mentioned 1.5V , my core temps jump as high as 79C!!!! That's on freakin' water! Is this normal? And my idle temps again at 1.5 are between 42C and 46C.
With Turbo boost disabled, a vcore of 1.4 my temps idle between 37C and 41C and can reach 71C during Orthos.
This is my third watercooled build and I'm fairly sure that the CPU block is properly seated. I mean it's hard to install the Swiftech GTZ poorly. Could it be the Radiator not performing to specs? On my previous build I had a quad 120mm rad, cooling an OCed E8600 to 4.5 Ghz and a Radeon 4870X2 and my temps idled in the 24C to 28C range and never went above 62 at full load. That's what I'm used to seeing.
Also, I'm confused as to why CPUZ reports a Core Voltage of 1.392 even thought I set it to 1.5V.
Anyway, sorry for the lengthy post. If anyone on here could put in their 2 cents I'd much appreciate it.
Thank you very much.![]()
