Thanks for the tips Sniper. I tried your suggestions: QPI/VTT voltage to 1.3V, brought down Vcore to 1.3, upped DRAM voltage to 1.64V, something I was reluctant to down since my ram is rated 1.5-1.6. I also enabled LLC.

Sadly, it's a no go. 3 minutes into Orthos and it's BSOD.

I also tried the following: 1.29v Vcore, and 1.275v Vtt, IOH Core is at 1.140v, QPI PLL @ 1.140v, 1.300v CPU PLL, and 1.66v VDimm.
CPU clock drive 800mV, PCIE clock drive 900mV.
    CPU clock skew at 100ps

BSOD after 5 minutes into Orthos.

In both cases my temps idled at the 37 to 39C range and 62C-63C during Orthos while it lasted. Turbo boost is also disabled.

I also tried lowering the DRAM frequency to 1200 to rule it out but it didn't help.

    Now I'll try a mix of the two: 1.29V Vcore, 1.3V QPI/VTT , 1.6V DRAM

Does anyone else here have a problem with (lowish) cpu temp trip on their ud5?
Even with cpu temp & prochot disabled in the bios I just can't get this thing to let me cook my cpu a bit more when stress testing or benching, as soon as I get to 77 or 78 C in realtemp OCCT stops with a 'cpu too hot' error. Running linx or prime I'll see the same temps right before the screen goes black & POST starts up.
Just curious if it's the motherboard or cpu, attaching a screenshot of OCCT at 4.5 ghz, you can see the max temps in realtemp...

    Nope, different board layouts.

OCCT stops with a 'cpu too hot' error
Oct has it's own trigger. Click the orange top right button to bring up the settings tab. You should see at the top MAX CPU temp of 80C which confirms why it's stopping for you. Just change it to what you want.

Core I7 Need I Say More

    Dear all

Realizing that this thread is for the ud5, the minor differences are inconsequential.

My reason for ranting is simply a very unstable Core I7.

    Specs:

    Antec p180 case
Antec 1000w True Power Quattro Pro
    LG dvd rw
First Mobo ASUS P6T Deluxe V2
    Second Mobo EX58 UD4P
    CPU Core I7 940
    Graphics 295 Nivida
First Set or Ram Kingston 6gb 2000ghz
Second Set of Ram Corsair 6gb 2000ghz
    Stock cooling
    HD 2x 500gb Seagate
    1x SSD 80gb Intel

OK here goes ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 I went through two of those the first had a PCIe failure the second I replaced with EX58 UD4P because I had lost confidence in the board after replacing The Kingston ram the first time.

Realizing I will still having major issues with Ram I replaced Kingston with Corsair on the new EX58 UD4P only to realize that the Corsair ram was faulty and had been pulled by Corsair.

So After much fighting with suppliers got new set of ram new range ok so happy days NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO not to be still major heat, stability problems 124 errors win7 to 40 minutes to load random rebooting you name it . So after searching hundreds of pages I find a guy with similar problems, his problem being he swapped Patriot ram 1333 for 1600 happy days no not to be also major stability problems so guy helping him suggested a few step by step remedies the first being RESET CMOS NOT WITH BUTTON BUT JUMPER AS MOBO REMEMBERS CPU PLL VOLTAGE OF PREVIOUS RAM.

Ok so we are on our way oh by the by this has been going on for 3 months now, so mobo a lot cooler stability better not so many random reboots, so I get ssd wack the two 500gb as raid 0 hoping this would increase loading time of win7 not be so a bit of a hunch made SSD No:1 on stata ports leaving a space physically I make both 500gb slaves to SSD and way down made DVD master on one of the last sata ports happy days win 7 loads in 11 minutes.

Now comes the real sh1t, 940 CANNOT I REPEAT CANNOT SUPPORT 2000GHZ RAM ya major expense for nothing but does Intel tell you these things no they do not. So Final settings are as follows:

    BCLK 179
    CPU Clock Ratio 19
    Frequency 3.40
    Performance Enhance Standard
    QPI 36x
    Uncore 20 x 179 3580
    XMP disabled
    System MEM multiplier 10
    Mem Frequency 1796
    PCIE Frequency 100hz
    Intel Boost Tech Disabled
    CPU Core Enabled ALL
    CPU Enhanced Halt C1E Disabled
    C3/C6/C7 State support Enabled
    CPU Thermal Minitor Disabled
    CPU Eist Function Disabled
    Virtulization Thech Disabled
    Bi-Directional Prochot Disabled
    LLC Enabled
    CPU voltage 1.281
QPI/VTT auto could not set any woltage refused to get past post
    CPU PLL 1.8
    Pci E 1.5
    QPI PLL 1.14
    IOH Core 1.4
    ICH I/O 1.64
    ICH Core 1.240
    Dram Voltage 1.64

So Any suggestions would be welcom seems stable Prime 95 hovers 89 90 deg C on stock cooling.

    Thanks for Listening

    Sincerely

    M.A

I'd personally suggest going for 920 atm. New i7s overclock worse atm, perform a bit worse yet cost about the same.
Plus the "older" platform is certainly more "bug free" when it comes to BIOSes and OCing.
Also you get a nice upgrade path with 6 core Gulftown.
    And LOL @ your sig!

    ezaleina,i agree with zalbard
i would get the i7-920 and the UD5 like me.
i had the UD4P and i5-750,very easy to OC
    but,i think my i7 rig stomps it.the new i5-i7
cpu's need lots of vcore just like the old 920
    CO's did.maybe after a while the new i7-i5's
will get a stepping refresh and be better

G.Skill definitely. Price/performance and looks are amazing. Also Elpida BBSE overclocks great.

So i am trying to get my new 920 on the UD5 stable at 4.0ghz.
First off i have been reading this thread like crazy. And doing a lot of experimenting. 3.8 seems really easy and i cant do anything wrong but once i hit 4.0 sometimes i can get into windows sometimes i cant, and it never makes it past a few seconds of OCCT.
Anyway my main question at this points is what are the max voltages on things i dare try.
Every generation has a different known cap for safty, for the vcore etc and i don't really know what the i7's is.

    *EDIT*
Basically i am looking for 24/7 with not much dmg to the hardware.

i would not flash to EXt Bios
you can not go above 220 BLCK with either boards (no bios will change this)
needs to be a hard mod on the MB
    but 215 x 21 = 4515 is fast anyway

Well i was stable for about 5 minutes of OCCT at 4.0ghz, my vcore in bios was a smidge aboove 1.4 but after vdroop it was around 1.34 does this sound normal? And is 1.40-142 range ok for 24/7?
