    Hows the chip(s) doin blunt??

Finally got my H50, pushed my chip to 4ghz (lame I know, but I like low and no heat) with a vcore set to 1.15v in BIOS and down to 1.10-1.12 in Windows 7

Temps are a respectable 39'c (hottest core) idle and 65'c (hottest core) load

Yeah - I got EK motherboard blocks on the board and using the XSPC Delta V3

Voltages are good - Going to play around some more - see if I can push her a wee bit more

K, downloaded everest and it shows 48C for north bridge, that ok ?

It's also on cpuid hardware monitor as tmpin2.

Johnny, you must have a really nice chip there mate, that is excellent Vcore!!!

I've talked to a couple people on the OcUK forums who are using this H50's, and they really seem to be great pieces of kit.

If I wasn't going for custom water I would probably grab one myself, but I have got everything for my loop now except for my HK3, I should be getting that in the next couple of weeks hopefully, I can't wait!

I am currently using 1.275v in the BIOS, but my QPI is down to 1.215v, 4GHz stable.

Though my idle temps are 40c, and loads shoot up to 75c, got 2 fans on my TRUE now, and I am also using Arctic Cooling MX3 TIM, this stuff alone knocked 5c off my loads compared to AS5!!

Both of my chips are really nice compared to the last one I had, that's for sure, I am really happy with them now, everything has been spot on since I got these ones..

I tested them both on my rig, and kept the best one for myself, and gave the missus the other!!

@Bex, where about in Scotland are you located?

I've came across a couple of Scottish people on here now!

    ::edit::

Fosco, check those temps mate, no-way would I be letting my chip get up to those kinda temps!

I searched high and low online to try and source a Bloomfield Xeon W3520, but I couldn't find anywhere in the UK that had them, one site had them listed, but didn't have any stock, they still don't have stock as far as I am aware..

Seems people with these Xeons are getting much higher clocks than us 920 users, must be higher binned silicon that gets used for Xeon chips.

@erouz, have you tried the latest ATI drivers for your cards mate?

I have just tried searching google for you to see if anyone else has this problem, but I couldn't seem to find anything, I didn't look very hard though tbh.

@Shocky, 48c is good for NB temps mate, this is idle temps, right?

    What are the load temps?

Lol Fosco.. poor CPU ^^ Oh and BTW, I got the exact same batch - they run extremely hot don't they

Yes, Xeons are often better, but they are hotter as well.. this is one of mine on the EX58 Extreme that is STILL giving me trouble with 12GB and freezing at post when I try >205Mhz BCLK
And no it's not the CPU, that Xeon does 225 BCLK easy on my DFI.

Note this is on high end water (HK 3,0 CU w/ MCP355 and Feser Quad 480 rad)

Everest reports my idle NB temps as 32'c , must be the fans blowing onto the front and back (see the last pic) of my motherboard .

My chip seems like a beauty......might push her up to 200x21 soon, the H50 deals well with the heat...only a few 'c better than my washer modded TRUE, but enough

Damn jcool, that is really low Vcore for 4.2GHz!!

@Johnny, I would push for 4.2GHz if I were you, I recon you will get there without any issues mate.

I use the same Xigmatek fans as you on my TRUE, I really like them, nice and quiet to I must say!

I've got no idea what my IOH temps are tbh, I've never actually checked!!

@Bex, I'm from Burghead, near Elgin, I like it here, nice and peaceful

Just read your thread about the crap Asus put you through, though it looks like it worked out for you in the end getting that GTX295!

You deserved it though tbh, I am starting to get worried now, as my GTX280 is from Asus... Though, I don't o/c my GPU, and it's been going strong for nearly a year without any issues so far.. so fingers crossed it stays like that!

I picked it up cheap from OcUK clearance lines, so if it does decide to die, then I wont be to bothered about it really, I'm gonna be grabbing one of the ATI 58** series cards when they hit the shelves anyway..

Just read the 'Asus Customer Service....WHAT!!??' thread....man that sucks ass that they should make you wait like, an absolute disgrace!!
If it were me, I'd have bought another card in the meantime and reported them to trading standards (cos I have to$$pot companies who take the pi$$), but like Blunt said, at least you got a decent outcome

Is it me, or is Scotland becoming and overclocking force recently?? Seems there are a lot of Scots knocking around forums these days.....
I'll be up in Portsoy in a few weeks to visit my folks.......roll on

Asus Nvidia cards seem to hold out loads better than their ATI 1s do.....

C'mon CPU! Keep going! Don't give up on me yet!!! I'm at 4.5Ghz - I can't get 4.6Ghz stable long enough - BSOD so I'm trying out some voltage raising - see how she fairs...

@ Jonny - yeah - seems to be - I'm aiming to be Scotlands best female OC'er though :P

I don't know of any female that is into overclocking, you are the first one I have ever came across Bex!

You are doing really good having 4.5GHz stable, I would be delighted with that personally!

My max clock with this chip has been 4.7GHz, but that was just CPUZ verification, I couldn't test for stability because I'm only using air atm, even at 4.2GHz my temps are a little to high for my liking, 88c on the hottest core when running LinX..

Once I get my chip under water hopefully things will be better.

    Not all W3520 run hot

    @jcool
Not all W3520 run hot. I'v had 3 W3520 (2 left), the first one was a 3845A935, and its a typical high-leakage, hot running cpu. Compared to my best one, it runs 10-12 hotter with air-cooling (TRUE) on equal MHz. The only good thing about it is that it runs at even lower vcore than the others. On water it tops out about 4400-4450 for 8 hours prime.

My second and third was 3848A352. I'v sold nr 2, but the last one is really good.

Cooled by water (laing dcc, HK3.0, PA120.3 + BIP3 with 1000 and 1300 rpm fans) with ambient 21-22 it can do this:

    Scaling is also very good:

Extremely happy with my GB X58 Extreme, but I'm hoping GB X58A will be released soon, need higher BCLK

No, this was load, idles around 40C. So even though my QPI/VTT is high I should be ok to go higher?

Or does QPI/VTT just further increase CPU temp?

Nice... I can only imagine if my w3520 would be a high vid CPU instead of ultra low vid like yours
Water temps for mine were at 34C tho, because I use 800rpm fans and have the mobo and 2 GTX 280's in the loop as well for that rig. Still nice to know it could nprobably do 4,4 at 1,3V IF the stupid board would work at 210 BCLK.

Sniper, can you please tell me what settings you used to get 210 BCLk to be LinX stable on this board? Heck even a boot would be nice.

My watercooling is cpu only, and with low ambient it performs really good.

I'v had both a UD5 and this Extreme mb, both of them are capable of 222 I think. In the LinX run at 4410 I used 8 mem mp with 7-7-7-20-1, uncore at 16. VTT was set at 1.28v in bios, IOH at 1.2. The others set too stock values (not AUTO). PCI at 102 (103 works most of the time, but have'nt seen any benefit from it, and gives me trouble with slow gfx performance in w7 on some occations). Cpu clock drive is set to 800, PCI clock drive to 1000, Cpu clock skew to 650 (not really needed at 210, but helps past 220 I think), IOH clock skew also 650.
    ---

Testing stability with LinX is much faster than prime, but getting an eight hour prime blend/custom with 5k+ mem is alot harder than getting LinX to pass.

Its fun to have a good chip to play with, but in the end its your cooling that determins how far you can go for 24/7. The heat output from theese chips with ht on and full load is enough to heat up a small flat

With good cooling even a mediocre chip can run at 4.2 or something, and thats plenty fast enough. Telling the difference between 4.4 and 4.2 in a 24/7 setup isnt easy.

Well I wanted to do some PCmark runs with this setup, so I don't even care about stability - all I want is to bench at 4,5-4,6 which that 3848A352 Xeon can handle it its sleep. Thanks for the skew values, will try messing with them a little. Like I said I can't even get 210 BCLk to boot, 205 max. If I raise to 210 with SetFSB it's an instant BSOD as well.

RCG_Bex,very nice OC and great vcore
for that OC.you've got a great chip.
also the UD4P seems to get nice bclk too
i think ill definitely get that board now.seeing as
i just need to get the board mainly to figure out
which of my two components is broken(MB or CPU)
and i cant buy both at the same time.so saving 50-60$
on the board will make it easier on me in case the MB
    isnt the culprit.
