You can buy 920 i7 right now for ~200-210$ with good u-atx x58 boards also costing not so much so i don't see what else 750 with no SMT can do to hurt AMD? AMD will keep pushing the cloks up and lowering the TDP on present models, plus we will have 6 core on desktop next year. IMO that's pretty much all they need to stay competitive in mid and mid-high segment of desktop. Thuban(hex core for DT) with no cold bug can help them probably grab a few more records next year in extreme OC conditions so they get some good press like they got from Deneb. And they will do all this with one generation of products that was gradually extended from dual to hex core(one K10.5 core inside Deneb Quad MPU is quite smallish so they kinda did the RV770 versus GT200,only in CPU world).
They need to lower the HT from 2.8ghz to get more OC.
This A2x4 can do quad fire with 4x4890's even with the ""old" SB600 boards (K9A2/M3a32) regardless of which core it's based on (Deneb/Propus).
Can I do quadfire (besides 2 x 4870 x2's/2xGTX295's) with P55?
Didn't think so
More (3d) performance for 1/2 price -I think we have a winner.
enlighten us how can 200 USD processor that'll be present in 2-5% of Intel's portfolio pressurize 100 USD processor (we do speak about Athlon II X4 don't we) from AMD?
How can 200 USD processor that goes in 150 USD mobo WITHOUT integrated graphics, pressurize 100 USD processor that goes in 50 USD mobos with DX10 (Windows Driver Model 1.1 for Win7) graphics?
How can 200 USD processor pressure 100 USD processor that is giving him beating in Ubuntu Linux??

Geez guys c'mon. I'm pretty sure the guy was referring to the entire AMD portfolio being compressed from above, forcing everything else to fall in line, not just the AII X4's.
Let's face it the i5 750 is a dangerous chip for AMD to compete with. Only AMD's top chips can even touch it, and to do so requires a healthy clock advantage. Throw on the fact that the 750 can hit 4Ghz pretty easy and you have to admit it is a better quad for the price (platform is another debate). I don't think any of the other new chips have any real effect on AMD's situation, they are just like the i7's are, but the i5 750 is a heck of a chip for AMD to deal with.
Only "problem" is that the i5 750 is a 3,2GHz CPU quite often I would assume. So one can not entirely use the results and think that you'll get 50% more performance if you clock it to 4GHz.
Would be nice to see some reviews comparing OC'd CPUs like a 3,8-4,0GHz PhII 955/965 to an i5 750 at similar clocks. Would have been nice to see what clocks the CPU was running during the different tasks in the other tests.
Edit: But I do agree, the i5 750 is a bit too good for AMDs current line up. I hope we'll see some improvements with C3, both X4 and X6.
Well, I know this is the 965 vs i920, but it was a nice comparison. It proved the Phenom looked real nice in real world apps. We are looking at 8threads from the 920... so take that in consideration here, But read the review, not just the pics.

I'd say AMD has quite competitive product lineup up to 200$, and it's adequately positioned against i5:

but yeah, I agree that C3 will bring more flexibility to AMD to fight against i5![]()
