    I never thought it did...

That 'In Game' setting screen I posted, with me setting PhysX to High, and getting the warning that a 9 Series card or better should be used was a darn good clue!

    One of us is confused.

You talking to a man with a dedicated PhysX processor who DOSENT want the PhysX load on his CPU.

Do you think another member here has an Nvidia card too, so that the PhysX can also run on their GPU.

So you think my results are bad, and I am the only one who will see a performance increase? I don't.

The CPU is used in every game, PhysX or not...

Which is why trying to do benchmark comparison between gpu and cpu is moot. So your right, one of us is confused

The above clearly shows what you are implying.

    CPU related physics
Yup, the CPU can do it too

Who is trying to do a test between CPU and GPU? Not me???

I simply was reporting a performance increase by installing the new PhysX, and you told me that my test was bad, and that performance couldn't be measured by design.

Glad John did the impossible too. I enjoyed his report.

i guess i should test the cpu old v new its just to bad that there isnt a bench mark for it

as im going to install server08r2 rtm on the 18th there is no point in trying to keep the install clean anymore, and yes that meant that IMO physX is dirty

Well the old and new PhysX BOTH run on my GPU, so I still dont even get the entire CPU conversation.

well if u have a non NV card u cant use physX with gpu or ppu acceleration and except for the paper (that i dont like) the nice effects all work without dedicated hardware (atleast with a ~4ghz quad). and like u said ur q66 is just sitting there so its a matter of improper coding and the perception that NV is trying to make is that u need a dedicated PPU or high end NV gpu for all of the eye candy but it seams mostly BS to me.

there is also the principal of NV neutering the cpu basses physX drivers, or UT3 needing a patch so im kinda interested on that

    I understand your point now...

But being a Nvidia man, and just updating my PhysX, made my test valid in my book.

As far as using my CPU for PhysX, I would rather not have it calculated there at all.

But it is a PhysX benchmark test, that you can tell no GPU PhysX.

Of course it will ony run at about 7FPS withought GPU PhysX, but to me, that is expected. The CPU can't hang.

Are you saying after the PhysX update, the tiles damage now works even with GPU PhysX disabled?

so vids are done, exept for a fighting (thats coming soon)

    smoke - http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=20pyqev&s=3
    sparks+cape - http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2urv5dz&s=3

yah tiles work with forced physX to 1 in config but the banners in the big room dont work now

edit here is a small fight seen with the paper, cape, and spit aticals/shock waves (i think that its spit or they are really dirty and im dusting them
    http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2us7bcj&s=3

all files were made with fraps all settings maxed, 1600x1200, no AA, forced physX mode 1, 720 be unlocked 3.6ghz, stock 4890, 1440mhz 7-7-7-18 ram. fraps lags a little with cashing, u can see were it went every 20sec or so in the fight

Nice! Goes to show you this all can be done using the CPU. Something repeated in this thread several times already. However, you have to reconfigure the game's .ini file(s) (or whatever else is involved) to do it. Goes to show you that CPU physics isn't properly utilized for this game.

Could you provide a step by step instructions on how this is done?

go to "Documents\Eidos\Batman Arkham Asylum Demo\BmGame\Config"

    then open UserEngine.ini

next change "PhysXLevel=0" to "PhysXLevel=1", u can also set it to 2 but it just seams to add alot of paper and that makes it lagg a little while adding nothing to the game

    Wow, simple enough
It makes absolutely no sense why CPU physics wasn't optimized with this game so that all you have to do is select how you want physics done from within the game. This is a nice find no doubt but I have to question what would have been if they properly coded this game were we don't have to tweak a .ini file via physx instead of the engine itself.

the cpu is broken in it IMO, with physX it uses 2 threads without its on 1 so the total physX package should work on 4 threads

Ok, I think there's a lot of confusion here. Why do you guys need to edit the ini directly? If I disable GPU PhysX the game still lets me select the option but gives a warning on performance. At those settings I get 50-60fps with GPU PhysX and 8-12fps with CPU PhysX. This is on an e8400@3.6.

So the in-game option only appeared for you after editing the ini manually? Wonder if they're going to change that for the full game. Thanks for checking this out, think this is the first game where would could directly compare CPU and GPU PhysX.
