Do you know why the 1.6 uses a different bios?

Aside from featuring the new Smart 6 system management utilities package(and BIOS), this model remains unchanged.

So, i'm at a stable 3.7 GHz (436*8.5) and i'm wondering if my DDR2 800MHz ram will cripple my attempts at reaching 3.8-4.0GHz on this board?

I'm already running it at 872MHz and it seems to operate just fine, but the higher I raise the FSB, the higher the RAM will go, and there's no way to underclock it with this board is there?

Looking at different versions I've noticed PCI-Express X16 is 2 (1x16 or 2x8) Does this mean that if I don't use one on top and use bottom one I still get X16? It's only X8 when in crossfire? What happens when I use bottom one for my GTX260 and use top one for 9600GT, are they still running at X16 or it's X8?

Take off your heatsink and check the thermal paste. The heatsink you link is pretty decent so your idle temps are a bit high.

After lapping the True, my temp actually went up, running Linpack the temp climbed to 90 C. Scratching my head, I took the heatsink out and peeked underneath. Found out by looking at the thermal paste imprint that the Q9550 was not flat, as a matter of fact both sides were raised with an indentation in the middle. After lapping the CPU, my temp were at an all time low. Idling at 36; prime at 60; Linpack at 66 max.

    Using this heatsink http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835186134

Room temps are about 86F since it's the summer. Question is, with these temps and my room temps, should i bother OC'ing more?

Also, how are you guys pasting your BIOS settings like that?

    Thanks in advance.

Well, my CPU as a whole idles anywhere from 36-42C depending on the time of day. The computer room is actually pretty hot, as I don't run the AC, room temps can reach anywhere from 84-90F.

I agree wholeheartedly about lapping both the True and the cpu ihs. REmember, there is a difference between lapping and polishing. GEt both surfaces as flat as possible, then polish if you want. Apply thermal paste sparingly. Insure that you have a good mount with even pressure on all corners. You might want to look into the "washer" mod- I did and it helps. At the settings below I run 38-40 idle with ambient in the mid 80's F, and in the 60c range while gaming. These are not exception, there are average for a properly prepared True.

I am not satisfied with 4300mhz- I want at least 4500 or more. This is definitely going to take liquid cooling.

Follow the suggestions given and you should have no problems at your clock speeds.

Watching you guys with those Quads makes me want one. But I can't shellout $320 for a Q9650. However, I see that Micro Center has the Q9550 for $169.99, at a high FSB the 8 or 8.5 multiplier is good enough for me. Maybe I'll see if I can sell my E8500 and pick one so I can join the Quad Core Club!!

    Nice OC's everyone

If I'm going 8GB 4x2 on this board, what line is recommended? I want to be stable obviously, and be able to match a relatively high FSB with the ram. Are there any favorites? Does D9 still matter?

so there is no way to adjust the mem to lower freq when OCing the CPU?as the cpu/fsb goes up so does the mem OC??? guess i am headed to a ASUS board. was wanting to get on of the UD3P boards. is the UD3P a 8 phase board or 4?

The lowest speed possible is 1:1 on most boards(UD3P included). I believe the only boards that are capable of running the memory slower than the FSB are nVidia boards.

I think the EP45-UD3P 6 phase but it does provide more than enough power for quads.

Yep correct intel's lowest divider is 1:1, to get the most out of P45 you need to run a divider, so let's say with 500FSB , it's preferrable to run 1200mhz on the rams... don't downgrade to a Nvidia board , upgrade ya rams Cincyrob... UD3P phases will handle any quad fine
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

so then i should be looking for bigger ram than 1066?
as for the divider say 5:6 that is what i should be trying to get my ram at now? instead of the 1:1 mark? i dont think my mem now could handle that.
no many ddr2 1200 to choose from. was looking at ddr3. wow the prices have dropped on them,

I'm in the same boat as you with the same OC. Wish there was a way to push the RAM further or underclock it. Oh well.

what divider would you set it to, to get it at 1200? or what divider would/should i be useing now? i am at 1:1 right now.

my fsb is set as yours 436mhz. giving me 3.706 ghz(oc) and my mem is 1:1 running at 872mhz.. that as high as i can get these sticks to run anyhigher and i fail all stress testings. i have some nice mushkin ddr2 800(4-5-4-11) that i ran for about 3 months at 1066 and was awsome until my mobo NB(mem contorler) went out on me and took out 1 stick. rma'd the mobo and the mem. havent used the mem as of yet i might try and put them in and see if i can get higher. 450-480 range

i like your setup.. almost like mine. except you have the better mobo..lol
love them red led's. i have 4 of the antec tri-cool red leds in my RC690.

so there is more options on the UD3P than the DS3R board? i can kick myself in the azz for getting this board. but it was the first P45 out by gigabyte. i think i might be convinced to give them 1 more chance. and try the UD3P.

hello, i am new to ud3p and also overclocking

    i am now having q9650, ud3p, g-skill ddr2 8000 4gb pack(1000mhz)

so i copied a setting from this post

    478 x 9
    cpu clock drive 800mv
    pci-e 900mv
    cpu clock skew 0ps
    mch 50ps

    ram divider 1:1

    vcore 1.35
    term 1.26
    pll 1.45
    ref .868

    mch 1.32
    ref .838

i can pass IBT 5times and i am lazy to other tests until i got a setting that satisfies me

so i would like to ask if there is anything i can do to get higher fsb or lower voltage?

i tried to boot with 4.35ghz, 4.4ghz or even 4.5ghz

but even i add a lot voltage to those fsb, its still unstable, most of the time it says"a clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval"bsod

my cpu has a vid 1.225

    thanks a lot!

and one more thing i dont wish to add too much voltage to it like 1.4X v for its temp and also lifetime :P
