    Talking Just Installed Q9650....

    Hello All,

    I just installed my q9650 last night and I needed you help with the "optimization of my O/C.

    I am sitting pretty at 4GHz and just finished with an 8 hour prime95 run without any issues.

    I am happy with 4 GHz for now and will probably keep it here without a real need to go higher.

    I did have a couple of questions:

    1. I have a temperature split on the 4 cores when I am at idle. they are
    37-37-32-34

    Is this anything I need to be concerned about?

    2. My Load temps are:
    61-59-59-60

    I think these look good, what do you think?

    Jsunn: the difference in temps are the sensors not reading correctly at ilde, nothing to worry about. Your load temps are fine. A LOT of 45nm CPU's have sensor problems. Try 800/800/0/50 in advanced clock control or 900/900/0/50 if that doesn't work, for 500+fsb.

    Just did a few runs on Intel Burn in test running LinPak.

    My system was stable, but my temp kind of startled me.

    Do I need to be concerned?

    Jsunn: Your temps are fine, LinX and IBT get the CPU very hot, much more so than Prime. When your temps reach 75c, I would stop using IBT/LinX and start testing with Prime.

    What kind of fan(s) are you using on that megahalens? That does sound a little warm. My True keeps my Q at about the same settings quite a bit cooler than that but the fans sound obscene.

    I am using 2 fans on my megahalems set up in a push pull config.

    The are the Blacknoise Noiseblocker Multiframe S-Series M12-S3 73 CFM.

    My room is pretty hot during the summer, most of the time, my room is near 78 deg F.

    I think that is why I may be seeing the temps I am.

    Almost forgot, I just lapped my Q today! maybe my temps will get a little better.

    Thats probably why, my ambient is about the same but I haven't run linpack in quite a while. Let me know how much of a difference the lap job makes.

    He has an 8.5 multi, will need more to get 4300mhz stable. Try this and see how it goes.

    I see a lot of you guys are pushing your Q9550/Q9650's to 4GHz and beyond.

    I currently have a Q9550 OC'd to 3.7 GHz and my temps are as follows: (idle)

    48
    47
    50
    50

    Using this heatsink http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835186134

    Room temps are about 86F since it's the summer. Question is, with these temps and my room temps, should i bother OC'ing more?

    Also, how are you guys pasting your BIOS settings like that?

    just copy one of the templates and use the advance tab next to post quick reply
    once in the advance part,(click)the one that looks like this # and paste what you
    copied first and thats it.

    freeza: if you are at 50c idle you may want to consider getting a better cooler or backing your OC down to lower temps. The Ultra 120 Extreme is a very good cooler for Quads.

    Thanks for the reply. What would good idle temps be? My room temperatures range anywhere from 78-90 during the day. (I live in southern California and rarely run the AC) Are my idle temps what they should be given the room temperatures mentioned?

    I am not sure what your idle temp should be with an ambient room temp of 90f. I would just be careful trying any stress testing with the room that warm.
