Cool If money were no object...

    I'd probably build this.

    Mobo: MSI 790FX-GD70
    CPU: AMD TWKR
    Chassis: Lian-Li PC-65 in black
Graphics: Quad Sapphire Radeon 4890 Atomic's in CrossFireX
    Sound: HT Omega Claro 7.1
Network: Bigfoot Networks Killer Xeno Ultra
    Optical Drive 1: LG GGW-H20L Combo Blu-Ray Burner & HD-DVD-ROM drive
Optical Drive 2: Buffalo DVSM-XL516FB* (internal)
Optical Drive 3: Yamaha CRW-F1UX (External, USB 2.0)
Removable Media 1: 2.88 MiB 3.5" FDD (yes you read that right)
Removable Media 2: Iomega Zip250 or Zip750 drive (internal)
Removable Media 3: Multi-format memory card reader
PSU: Koolance PSU-1300ATX-12N Liquid Cooled PSU
Cooling: Custom-made phase-change CPU cooler with Prometeia-style enclosure that attaches to Lian-Li case, parallel flow waterblocks and single-slot brackets for the quad 4890s, waterblocks to cool the mobo's VRM's, northbridge and southbridge, and possibly to cool the network processing unit card and hard drives. Resorvoir, Pump, and either Radiator or Peltier array to cool the fluid will be located collectively inside an enclosure either bolted in between the Lian-Li case and phase-change cooler, or underneath the phase-change cooler.
(and yes there would still be some fans blowing air through the main chassis)

Forgive me for my bluntness, but:

also that koolance PSU = terrible, its only like 800 watts with poor line stability and bad efficiency.

If money were no object... now you have me thinking....

    Intel Core i7-975
    ASUS P6T7
    (2x)CORSAIR DOMINATOR DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel
    CORSAIR CMPSU-1000HX 1000W
    (2x = sli)EVGA Hydro Copper GeForce GTX 295 1792MB

Hmm... already at roughly $3500 in price and not even added the HD's, keyboard, mouse, sound card, case and cooling yet. Lets add them, shall we?

    (3x = raid 0) VelociRaptor WD3000HLFS 300GB
    OMEGA CLARO Plus+ sound card
Logitech Z-5500 505 Watts surround sound
I rather like my lycosa so I think I'd keep that keyboard
    RAZER Mamba
LG W2753V-PF Black 27" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Full HD 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor
    Blue Ray Drive
DVD burner with lightscribe, fastest I can get with little error
the case in this thread in black http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=219974

I figured out that the water cooling system I'd want is roughly $500 dollars a couple months ago.

All in all, we're looking at between $12,000 and $12,500

    I wish.

If money were no object, I would buy the Intel and NVidia corporations, and have any of their new products directly off the prototype line that I wanted.

No, you wouldn't. You cannot buy a corporation if it isn't willing to be sold.

This is a pretty easy one...

standard fare, prolly a dual xeon or opteron or something

but the two big ones for me would be:

    1) Adaptec 52445 with 28 X25-Es in RAID 5

    and

    2) A crazy LCD set up that's as tall as the ceiling

    oh I forgot...

    3) A retarded speaker system that costs like 100G or something

Last I checked buying a controlling share in a publicly traded company wasn't as hard as you make it sound.

They even have a term for it; Hostile Takeover.

You sure you got enough removable drives? And you forgot the 5.25" and a tape drive to stick in there.

If money was no object, I'd call Cray and let them build me a cluster optimized for WCG

Retail HW? Only one thing comes to mind... Dual W5580 on the upcoming Intel ST2.. anything else is just too slow

lol. that would be called a typo dear. I work during the day and often get interupted in the middle of typing something if I get a phone reservation come through. Sometimes I forget to check and update something in case I made a mistake. I fixed it.

heh well I would probably use either hybrid hard drives or OCZ Vertex SE drives for my main storage. Would also use a 5.25" 1.2 MB floppy drive for dual FDD's but I don't think the mobo supports dual FDD's. Maybe I'd go with an AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE instead of the TWKR. Oh and the Koolance PSU is rated for 1300 watts output on a 115V outlet and 1700 watts on a 230V outlet. I'd be hooking it up to a dedicated 230V circuit breaker, plus one circuit breaker each for the phase-change cooler and monitor and watercooling systems (the watercooling pump and radiator fans will be on their own power supply separate from the PC)

If money were no object, I'd have scientists custom-build me a diamond-based CPU that is completely compatible with x86-64 and as fast as the technology can make it.
    .:: Gaming PC Specs ::.

    Case: Antec Nine Hundred
CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K @ 4.6 GHz, 1.44v (cooled by Xigmatek GAIA) [IntelBurnTest{Linpack} stable]

    Motherboard: GIGABYTE Z68XP-UD4 F5
    Memory: 16 GB (4x 4 GB) Corsair Vengeance LP DDR3 1600
    Hard Drive: 2x Seagate 500 GB 7200.11 RAID 0 & RAID 1 (Matrix RAID) + 1x WD Caviar Black 640 GB
    Sound: Creative SB X-Fi Fatal1ty Profess1onal, Logitech X-530
    PSU: Corsair AX-1200 (1500W PSU!)

Let me also clarify about the optical drives. The Buffalo DVSM-XL516FB is the actual drive that with different brand labels was sold as the Pioneer DVR-111, DVR-111D, DVR-111L, DVR-A11XL, and the Asus 1608P3S. I picked it because it supports LabelFlash, and the LG GGW-H20L drive I picked can support LightScribe, which keeps me covered on BOTH drive-based labeling mechanisms. The H20L reads HD-DVD and can both read and write Blu-Ray, so that would maximize my compatibility range. The Yamaha CRW-F1 CDRW drive supports Mt. Rainier optical storage which is a feature I make heavy use of already. I have a lot of zip disks too, hence the inclusion of an internal Zip Drive. (Probably external 750 plus internal 250)

If money was no object I would have everything custom made.

Have Lian Li build me a case no one else has or will ever have. Custom CPU, RAM GPU, MOBO, and even a custom liquid cooling.

In the easiest way of saying it THIS WOULD BE CUSTOM

and I would own a Ducati Desmosedici RR
