Take no notice of VID, seriously - the best Q9550 I've seen on the forum has exactly the same VID as mine (1.25) and it can do 4GHz on 1.21v, and 4.25GHz on 1.31v. Clearly the VID value is in many cases since these CPUs can run stock probably at or below 1v.

I've got an odd problem with mine....it's @ 4Ghz at 1.30825v in BIOS (1.290v actual), and it'll pass OCCT Burn Test, SuperPi, IntelBurnTest for HOURS - yet games still cause it to hard crash - what gives?

I had exactly the same problem with my E8500 @ 4.4GHz - solid in every stress test, but games made the system crash. I resolved the issue by lowering to 4.3GHz.

It's pretty much a given that 3D apps stress the system in an entirely different way and of course the usual software (OCCT SPi Prime etc.) does nothing for 3D stability, so it must be a PCI-E thing, whether bus frequency or the GPU itself.

Thing is, it didn't do it with my E7200 @ 4Ghz, although that was at 421x9.5, rather than 445x9.

If you are successfully passing hard stress levels on IntelBurnTest but failing Prime95 blend test, it is an indication that your memory/northbridge is unstable at your current settings. I personally use four instances of Memtest for Windows for dead accurate memory testing.

Now I'm convinced I got scammed on ebay - ten days after buying the Q9650 the seller won't contact me and nothing has come in the post.

So I just bought a brand new & sealed one from a reputable retailer. The FPO # is L845B636. What are the chances it'll be better than my Q9550 E0 which needs >1.4v for 4GHz? Does anybody have a suckage Q9650?

    Q9650 4.5Ghz (Stable)

Just thought I would post some BIOS settings for the Gigabyte UD3 series. I was hitting a FSB wall around 400, but after tweaking the various voltages a bit, it runs stable at 500FSB.

theres no a suckage/bad q9650.. even the worst one out there can do 4.5ghz

the suckage is your mobos (anus that is)

and that goes to three of you: LennyRhys/AgentGOD/Kai Robinson

get ep45 if you guys want 500x9 out of your q9650

I'd rather not have to pay out another $200 (equivalent) for a motherboard that may, or may not help.

I'm not looking for 500x9 either, 445x9 is my limit.

Xguntherc: there are some batches that are a tad better then others, especially when your buying a new Q9650 (small box). But in a good board and the right settings they will perform great like NapalmV5 said. Look at my chip and Sergio's I had both on the same board and achieve loads of good results with them.

Lenny: I guess you haven't read the entire thread but there are loads of Q9650 better then this one you pointed out.

This mobo pushes 471 MHz FSB no problem. Tried it on a Q6600 I had before.

    ASUS > Gigabutt.

I take that back... I actually have both boards.. the EP45 and the P5Q Deluxe in my possession.

My experience going from a MFII to the EP45-UD3P, last week, has been positive.

500 x 9 with my Q9650 is alluding me despite everything I've tried - 485 FSB with the 9x multiplier seems like the most but where the UD3P shines is that my MFII was FSB limited above 475 ish despite all GTL settings, skews and everything played with and that was regardless of multiplier.

I'm currently Prime blending at 513 x 8.5 on the UD3P and it was as simple as pie to get going and that is the strength of the UD3P over the MFII in my experience.

Ya, I'm kinda stuck at 475mhz on lowish voltages, cant really get higher yet.

I read here the latest Bios (I'm on it) is crap for Quads and 13XX and 19XX are better so I can try later, CPU is 1week+ old so give it time.

so i just realized that i am a tool and have been running 32 bit Prime95 in 64 bit vista..... no wonder why it has randomly rebooted after about 40 or so minutes every time ive run it even though it passed any amount of IBT runs

Shouldn't matter, 64bit OS can run 32bit Apps.

We all had to do so before Prime was 64bit.

i see. well in any case i got a BSOD instead of a reboot this time so i needed to adjust. bumped the voltage from 1.25 to 1.275. failing that, what other suggestions do you have to stabilize my system at 4ghz for 24/7?

    Are you on build " p64v259 " ?

You have a Q9650 and the "supposed to be Leet'ist P45 Mobo" and only 4GB of ram so it should clock well.

You really need adjust CPU and NB GTL's getting near 450FSB (I did over 425FSB).

Lower multi for now, raise VCore higher than you would need for whatever MHZ you choose (your Multi + FSB choice), ie 6x445.

Then get it stable with lowest voltages you can with proper GTL's, then and only then raise the Multo to get your 4GHZ ie 9x445 and then try get lowest VCore using more .PLL.

to all who want 500fsb with thier quad core's
    listen to NapalmV5 and jorl3BR.
i tried my quad on the MaxII and there was no way
in hell i could get 500fsb stable
i tried it in my DFI P35-UT and now way to get 500fsb
once my EP45-UD3P got back from RMA,i threw it in and
it hit 500fsb so easy, just as easy as my duals, except
of course, higher voltages.theres just something about the EP45's
that make it a breeze to hit 500fsb,i mean i was hitting 540fsb.

    and KAI ROBINSON,the EP45-UD3R only cost 119$
