yeah but you cant put that fan on a 140mm rad unless it has 120mm holes

Yeah, it's a nice fan, but unfortunately they don't work well for watercooling radiators.
For 120mm rads they are too big and the wing spand is spreading over the side of the rad, so they can suck air from around the rad.
This decreases the air being sucked through the much more air restrictive rad

    Minor Update...

I ordered some of these Koolance High Speed 140mm fans from PerformancePCS and gave them a whirl. They were the highest speed 140mm fans I could find, so they seemed like good testing candidates to get an overall 140mm fan picture (At least for what little we can choose from on 140mm fans today). I understand San Ace makes some 140mm x 56mm fans up to 4200RPM, but I havn't seen anything like that for sale in the shops. These Koolance fans will work for now, at least I can get up to 1700RPM with then and clear down to about 600RPM on the low end of the sensor limit.

I updated the original post with new charts including these 140mm runs if you want the details, but here is the major update:

Here are the additional fans tested:

Comparing them to all the fans tested on the Monsta:

And the comparison to the other triple radiators:

Bottom line, 140mm fans produce the most cooling per RPM by a fair margin as you might expect because of their larger size. On average you can run the fans at about 150RPM lower than a 120mm fan to get a similar performance.. Better yet, run 6 140's in push/pull would probably be the ideal setup.

OK, enough watercooling tinkering for a while. I blew up my banshee, so I'm back in the garage rebuilding an engine...yet again. Nothing like pushing the limits of horsepower..

Yeah, I pretty much measured the same thing you did...140mm fans really do well per RPM as you might expect.

Somehow I see 140mm fan and 140mm rads becoming more of a standard in the future. Most 120mm radiators are oversize in width anyhow.

Most 120mm fan radiators are already around 128 to 135mm wide currently, so adding another 10-15mm in width to make them 140mm fan compatible is not a huge width increase. Length is another story, but if you make all the single through quad options available...people will find what fits for them. Of coarse it does throw a wrench into the cases designed for radiators, but if some like MM custom make them for different fan spacing, I'm sure they could work out some 140mm options easy enough.

Cheers to seeing more 140mm radiators and fan options in the future..

It depends from what fan we consider........

Thermochill + Scythe S-Flex is better than TFC Monsta + 140 mm fan.
    452 watt > 395 watt to 1000 RPM and 586 watt > 545 watt to 1350 RPM

I have a couple of these fans and let me tell you this....They blow! Seriously and I am not talking wind here. Once in awhile they forget to start up with the rest of the computer and I have to reach in and kind of kick start it with my finger. They look cool but they really do blow!

Yeah it's not like myself or WaterFlex went out and bought these fans. It came with our case. Two of them in fact and yeah I used the better one of the two and it forgets what to do when you put power to it from time to time. Other then that real quiet but definitely nowhere near the performance of the Koolance one's.

I am presenrtly using 6xSharkoon 140mmx25mm 1200rpm on mine with a fan controller, they work very well and are pretty quiet.
They make 1500rpm models too, which with a controller would probably be better again.

    Thanks!

I'm not really impressed with the noise on the Koolance fans. I'll probably pick up a set of medium speed yates on my next gear order. I'm kind of thinking six medium speed yates in push/pull undervolted would be what I would probably like to run. I do like the lower tone of the 140's. I'm probably just bored with the same old 120mm fan size too, something different is cool.

    Take it easy...

I'm using the Yate mediums they are pretty nice, quiet too I don't mind them at all running full speed but am only using 3 not 6. Really looking forward to your results.

On another note I am really impressed with this rad, I added a GTX295 to my cpu loop and there is no difference in temps at all. The 295 stays around 45c under load overclocked to hell with voltage tuner and i7 920 running 4.5ghz.

I have not done any bench over like 30 minutes yet so perhaps that will change but for the time being I am a happy camper
