EK Supreme orientation on a Core i7

    Hi guys!

    Just a short report here.
I tested the EK Supreme on an i7 920 with two different orientations to see if it made a difference.

This is what the test-systems consists of:

    - i7 920 Vcore: 1.28
    - Asus P6T
    - MCP355 with EK X-Res Top
    - XSPC RS360 radiator with three Nanoxia FX-1250 fans @ 1200rpm
    - Four analogue temperature probes in the water
    - Three digital temperature probes measuring ambient

    Software:
    - RealTemp 3.00 logging core temps
    - T-Balancer software logging water and ambient temps
    - CoreDamage burning CPU for 40 minutes per test run, values averaged out for the last 20 minutes of each run.

Flow: constantly at 250 l/h during the test-runs.

    Orientations

There are two orientations that matter IMO: Directing flow along the "length" of the die and directing flow accross the "length" of the die.

I named A "Vertical" and B "Horizontal", because that's the direction the water flows in when the CPU is installed on a mainboard in a normal case.

Here are the results of the three runs for each orientation, shown in temperature difference between Water and all core temps averaged out:

As you can see, it makes absolutely no difference. The differences we see here are all well within the margin of error, so it seems that with the Supreme, the i7 doesn't care what direction the flow is going in.

Hope you enjoyed this small report.

    Cheers,
    Shane

Really? I'll give it a shot, but I wont do three mounts if I don't see a significant difference on the first one.
Gotta get ahead with testing other blocks.

its cool, 1 mount is fine.

Dont underestimate the quarkiness of the supreme.

no.. not that i know of.

Its because on the EK the injectors are not identical. Meaning the laser cut on it can vary the performance.

Martin discovered this only after i told him to flip the block once.

the cooling head is located in the center.

the pin matrix isnt even in a square manner.

For the fusion id say which ever side your outlet gives you the easiest mount would be the most ideal.

Yeah, I'd also guess (though it's really just a guess) that with blocks that have central inlets and symmetrical structures, the orientation is less of an issue.

Update: Tested one more orientation. Flow direction "vertical" or "A" on the pic in the first post, but this time with flow in the opposite direction than before. I got a delta temp of 33° which is almost exactly the average of all the previous runs (32.9°).
