I would appreciate some assistance, I have an i7 920 D0 cooled with a Noctua and the motherboard in the topic. I have updated my BIOS to 05/28 or whatever the latest beta is on DFI's website.

I would like to be able to use the 21 multiplier, to achieve this I enable turbo mode. However enabling turbo mode also enables a 22 multiplier on Core 1 which can lead to instabilities. I just want 21 and not that pesky 22 which can arise at times.

I noticed by use of CPU-z that during some of my higher clocked stability tests that my CPU under clock by means of the multiplier. Is this a feature part of thermal throttling to prevent harm to the CPU? On load my CPU temp has not crossed 74C

What is the difference between Core Voltage and VTT? is the VTT the same as UnCore Voltage? Other than those two and DRAM voltages are there any other voltages I should be tweaking?

I would also appreciate any directions to guides, I am fairly inexperienced with this BIOS.

Hi guys!! I'm very proud of this mobo but... it needs rma. My controller sata has some problem... every change of bios I've to disconnect the other hard disk (not that with os obviously) to have regular boot... Please help me

Finally got my DFI board. Bunch of noob questions. Coming from Giga and Asus land, so pardon my ignorance.

    1. How do I select a different disk for booting than the one selected in the BIOS without going into BIOS and POSTing twice? Its F8 in asus.

    2. Should I leave VTT and VID Special Add at Auto? I just tested 200BCLK and I am going for 220. What does the Auto select?

    3. What is OC shutdown free? Should it be enabled or disabled?

    4. Set VR limit Current Limit Max, should it be enabled or disabled? I don't want the mobo to throttle me?

    Thanks for your help.

I am trying to run the same settings as my earlier mobo for 4.3Ghz and I am seeing throttling with multi dropping. The vcore is 1.34-1.36 (in cpuz) with vdroop disabled. vtt is 1.39-1.41 seen in h/w monitor.

What settings am I supposed to choose to disable throttling? I have ESIT enabled (needed for turbo), turbo enabled, CxE at Auto, Thermal mgmt Enabled, PPM (what is PPM?) enabled.

More issues: While running prime, after 5 minutes, it was shutting the PC off although the temps were in lower 80s (it shut itself off right under my nose, I was watching the temps). So, I disabled the shutdown at 100C in BIOS. It can't even boot the damn thing. It displays 88 code. Reset and same thing.

Any ideas on what's shutting my PC? At the same temps (and higher), the same CPU was working fine in Asus board. It would lower the multi to 20x but it won't shut the PC Off like that.

This BIOS is really buggy. I can't get consistent results from it. I lowered the BCLK, it won't post. Is 02/17 the latest DFI BIOS for this board? I am surprised DFI hasn't released a BIOS in such a long time. I have a xeon w3520, so that might have something to do with strangeness. Certainly very arbitrary behavior. Haven't seen anything like it from giga or asus.

    Nice clocks dj888u2

For DFI UT X58 new board owners, here's some links you should bookmark and read and re-read particular 1st link as lots of the answers to the questions you posted (devsk and Pardoxxx)

w3520 work fine on DFI UT X58-T3EH8 using 4/28 pre-beta also found in bios change log link listed above

    4000Mhz at 1.184v load = coretemp = 57-60c load temps in 26.5C ambients!

Unfortunately DFI DK X58 slightly different so settings used on DFI UT X58 aren't exactly the same. Never used DK X58 so can't really comment. But set vr limit max = enabled to disable all thermal/current protection limits if you want to overclock and IOH/ICH 1.1V Voltage: 1.35v a tad high you really don't need more than 1.11v to 1.23v on air/water

Not sure on DK X58, but on UT X58, for D0 stepping cpus O.C. Shut Down Free: disabled is more stable than enabled. But for C0 stepping enabled was better than disabled.

change log list http://i4memory.com/f80/dfi-ut-x58-t...nge-log-13966/ 4/28 is 05/08 minus the non-rtl/tref/elpida skew mod changes i.e. without raid card improvements etc

For folks with win7 OS and turbo 12x fixed multi issue, some reading http://i4memory.com/f80/windows-7-tu...esearch-18053/ feedback would be nice

    CPU Feature

2 core Max Turbo Ratio: 21x
3 core Max Turbo Ratio: 21x
4 core Max Turbo Ratio: 21x
    CPU Non-Turbo Clock Ratio: 20x
With CxE set to AUTO instead of Disabled, 21x multi under load achieved BUT idle cpuz reported multi is funny one 22x! Under load multi changes from 22x idle to 21x load and voltage changes from 1.120v idle to 1.312v load

As per i7 Turbo Tool and RealTemp author's explanation, the calculated multiplier is more accurately depicting Turbo status ONLY under load and can vary at idle. It seems with CxE enabled, Turbo mode 21x multi is fully engaged only under load. At idle no idea what CPUZ is thinking LOL

At 21x190, 1.3vcore, 1.35vtt: one of the temps shown by h/w monitor reaches 84C under linx load, while all cores are below 80C. What temperature is that? Its marked as TMPIN1.

Just installed smart guardian. It seems like the temp that I talked about is SYSTEM temperature. Is that VRM temp? Why is it getting to 84C under load? Is it because I haven't installer the flame freezer or whatever? The reviews I read showed only 2-3C difference between installing it and not installing it. I have push-pull setup and a panaflo doing a good job at 2700 rpm of dispensing heat and cores stay under 80C. Any ideas what I need to do to get that VRM cooled down?

How high the VRM can go?

yes SYSTEM reported temp in SG = PWM temps - see here for ideas and why it's hot http://i4memory.com/f80/t3eh8-very-h...m-temps-18015/ and tip #31 and #32 here http://i4memory.com/102537-post3.html

Is the flame freezer supposed to be loose after installing the inner mounting clip? Its very loose after tightening the screws really hard. It can't be pushed any further inside because the inner fins are blocking it now.

less loose = use tim on flame freezer as per tip #32 http://i4memory.com/102537-post3.html

What are your opinions on Vcore Drop?

    # Vcore Droop: For Vcore droopage, according to CPUZ v1.49:

    * Vdroop Enabled = 0.016-0.032v droopage under load
    * Vdroop Disabled = 0.00-0.008v droopage under load

To me I expected that it should be disabled, resulting in more stable voltages however in practice I achieve more stable OC's with it on. Please explain.
