do you just label every wire with tag? i know when i do USB, Audio or Firewire cables (where all the wires are in one sleeve) i take before photos where i can see the wire colors, as well as drawing a little diagram with the colors matched to their sockets
There are pics readily available on the web of the pin diagram for the 24-pin cable, plus you can just plug them in the appropriate order into a piece of styrofoam.

@ Cosmos ... yep, this is my second one. De-pinning took about 30 minutes max compared to a couple of days the first time around. Also, minimal cuts I found the part that was hardest on my fingers is removing the pins from the PCI-E connector, cause it's rather sharp. I know I can do it, just want to get the end pieces right.
