If you want to go for 4GHz, try dropping your memory multiplier to 6x instead of 8x and increase your core voltage to 1.425V to start (enable load line calibration or whatever is the equivalent on your board). Also, like in the 3.8GHz OC set the QPI Voltage to 1.35V and DRAM around 1.65V. 20x multiplier is hard to get stable and not every chip can do it reliably.

Have run many tests now...and for the moment i find a nice speed with low voltages and temps.(see screen)
But something hold me down on the Bus Frequency..i can go to 207 but 208 is no go anymore, even i put voltages higher.
Normally it should go with no problem, because i have still space in voltage when he is under load.
In Bios i have 1.25625Vcore..Idle gives me 1.24V load 1.248V..so there is still room to go higher.Have test many times on lower speeds
with a Vcore and go step by step higher with TurboV...200-201-202..and so on..check the load and idle..if you not reach your Bios Vcore yet
then one step higher, till it fails, then put Vcore higher and test again.
So also the same with memory and qpi/dram voltage...but 208 don't goes anymore..in Bios no boot..with TurboV it jumps automatic back to 207

Any help or idea are appriciated..if i know the missing setting..i can continue testing to find a better spot!
The cpu has no problem to run 20x200...but i want to see how high i can go with the bus freq.with lowest voltages and temps!!

Lol this chip may be very good with voltage but the temperatures just plain suck.

4Ghz 1.225v on the Coolermaster V8 would go past 100C so I could never leave prime running

4Ghz 1.225v running right now on water cooling. Most of my parts were cheaper but performed within 10% of the best parts out there. One core slightly over 80C with the others still in the 70's. It did take a lot longer to get that high though. No worrying about a 10 second run hosing me on temperatures it takes 5-10 minutes.

Yes this is all with HT on.

Mind you this chip went into the 80's to 90's with the stock HSF and only 0.95v. It overheated just leaving everything set to auto. My original though was bad mounting but thats NOT the case as several of the mountings were very good.

BTW room temperatures are 26-28C. Also will probably add 3 more fans to the bottom of the radiator. All being said 20-30C drop going from a decent air cooler isn't bad at all.

well i7's need some really good cooling. Basic wont work the best. I say about $250-300 maybe

Mine is sitting around $200-215 right now but I didn't use a real reservoir. If I could have actually found a XSPC RX360 in stock it would have been a little higher.

EDIT: full temps might be closer to 70C after I make a few more modifications. Looks like about a 4-5C drop just adding a single 120mm fan to the bottom side of the radiator.

Some of those people over there are crazy and can spend $300 on just bling alone. If your resourceful you can get a very good system for about $200 but 10-20% more performance increases the price to $300+.

Note though its not good to be resourceful if its your first time

lets just say I dont run stability test. I've crunched for over 95 hours already, not one BSOD, no lock ups no sign of instability. Why put it throught the abuse

here you go $300 for a very similar setup to mine. The CPU block was just bought by a member of another forum and it has gave him amazing results, $50 as opposed to the HK or other blocks.

You can change the rad or pump save a few bucks here and there, but this is what it'll run ya. Look for used parts, they can help save lots of money and work just as good. Lots of people sell Thermochills PA 120.3 rads, they are amazing rads and you can save a few bucks like that

crunching is like folding, but it uses the CPU instead of the graphics card. Ever heard of folding @ home?

Anyhow that kit is not good for the i7, I have that block on my CPU and it does not perform very well with i7's. My temps across the cores are very very inconsistent, and ive already mounted the block a million times. for the i7 you need to piece together your own kit.

oh really ... hmm i will have to do some research =P

how do u crunch on prime? all i know is to do the stability test which i use the blend test mostly...

so far 7hrs and no bsod :P

Thought I might repost my question in this thread as well. (Original Post: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=2489)

    Using a GB EX-58UD5, F5 Bios.

    I can't get my 920 to 3.8GHz stable.

I can do 180 fine at:

    20x Multi
    Vcore 1.3000
    QPP/VTT 1.3000
    Turbo/HT/All Power Saving Functions OFF
    Load Line Calibration Enabled
    VDIMM 1.64
    PLL 1.80
    Memory Multi 8x, Uncore 16x

    Memory is a G.SKill PI kit rated at 8-8-8-21 @ 1.6-1.65V

Tried upping volts, using different multipliers (CPU down to 19x, Uncore up to 18x), I SEEM to have 3.7GHz stable with just Vcore upped to 1.4000V (45min of Prime95 so far).

    Thoughts?

well so far for me i can get 3.8ghz stable with 8+ hr of prime95..
    using these settings,

    bclk: 200

I tried something similar, 19x200, 1.4000 Vcore, 1.880 PLL, QPI/VTT 1.3800, VDIMM 1.66 (set at BIOS, at load vdroop lowers Vcore to ~1.36 and VDIMM to ~1.61). Not stable.... do I need to increase the voltages even higher? Is that 24/7 safe?

well for me i only have my vcore at 1.35v some ppl i seen even lower at 3.8ghz..
try 1.35v on vcore and 1.35v on qpi/dram and 1.66v on dram
and lower ur ram multiplier to 6x 12x uncore 18x qpi
try my setting but i dunno if it will work out the same for you i have a asus p6t deluxe v2 so not too sure if it will work the same.

I'm gonna try to lower my vcore if i can get it stable at my setting and so far so good at 9hrs prime95 blend test.
