Because I often have to leave my computer and I don't want it to unnecessarily use electricity. It could be doing some work so I can't put it to sleep manually and/or I wan't it to be ready instantly when I come back. S3 uses less power than S1 and shuts down the fans, which is a plus during the night.

HTPC needs it even more, as I can have it in S3 while not in use and it wakes itself up when scheduled recording is due, and is instantly ready when I want to use it manually.

And even if you or I never use it, it's something that just should work!

When you wake a computer up its on your desktop almost instantly, you don't have to wait through POST and Windows loading.

I never turn my computer off, I restart every couple days just to keep everything fresh, otherwise it's in use or sleeping.

    S3 is teh !

And like mentioned above, it should just work. These are 1st graders supporting an enthusiast motherboard.

    Alright I see your point

When I go to bed/school/work I turn my PC off.

Also I agree, it should work.

Your chip is an eo, they are all different but you should be able to get those clocks on way less voltages. Honestly I would set everything in motherboard voltage control back to normal and start your oc over. What worked for me more than anything was to set cpu termination to 1.2 then raise cpu reference and mch reference up 1 notch. After that raise the cpu termination as needed but leaving the reference voltages alone, they will increase as you raise the cpu termination. I was able to get 3.7 prime stable on stock vcore, 1.2 cpu termination .785 cpu ref. .80 mch ref., 1.24 mch. 333 strap 5:6 devider on the ram. See how high you can go on stock vcore then raise voltages as needed from that point.

these are my current voltage settings for 4.0 prime stable no LLC.
    Hope that made sense.

xbiusx, my mems for that were Crucial 8500. An early or older set now. I have some KHX8500 that are almost as good and I used them together with the 4x1gb screen. I just got them and they were only 49.00 But I even beat that, la couple weeks or so I got a set of Tracers for 29. (zzf) but they were 49 a week or so ago.) They are at 567 with 2.24v in my Asus. *The lights are cool.* I have a 2gb set og G.Skill 2x2 the pq ones. Have not had time to play with yet.

Thanks coop but no luck, won't even boot and bios sets clocks to defaults when it finnaly comes up to bios screen. Really unstable.

Hey guys, I can get my Q9550 to run 4.1GHz with 1.248v all day long, but recently I tried for 4.25GHz (8.5x500) and I can't seem to get it stable at all. I'm using BIOS F4 on a revision 1.0 board. First is my stable template, then the 2nd is the settings I'm currently trying (unsuccessfully) to reach 4.25GHz.

don't use the auto voltages for the reference volts !! you could try to lower MCH reference too
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Thanks, I just found this review about it on newegg... I am going to order one tonight from newegg $134. I am tired of my old P5Q Deluxe. I hope you guys can help me relearn to overclock this thing and my Q9650.

If you're wondering, "Will this thing fit on NewEgg's customer choice award winning GIGABYTE EP45-UD3P motherboard?" The answer is YES! (contrary to what you've read on the internet!) but it's a mind-boggling "how did I get that to work" tight fit. You have to remove the chipset/other heatsink/heatpipe component FIRST, then install this CPU heatsink, then CAREFULLY (watch those motherboard capacitors!) slide the chipset heatsink assembly back in between the CPU heatsink and motherboard components. There's a groove in one of the heatsinks of this assembly that a part of the CCTF's bracket slides (with a little friction) miraculously into. The whole thing defies logic but works perfectly.

Yes it will, but on mine I took the blue HS Gigabyte name tags latter on. It will still fit with the name tags (as you can see on the pic) but it will scratch the mosfet HS a little bit:

Thinking of getting a pair a 2x1gb so I can shoot for 8.5x500fsb with mem 5-5-5-18, PL9 and 1200mhz. Right now I'm running 2x2gb Dominators 8x525fsb with mem 5-5-5-15, PL9 and 1050mhz. Is it worth the $48 bucks or will there not be much difference in Everest scores and system performance?

Performance wise (real life performance) I don't think it's worth the trouble of changing the sticks, let alone $50.

Also, I was playing around last night and comparing easytune voltages with what I would set. And I was kind of shocked, for instance if I set the easytune built in OC of 9x450 it sets the cpu termination at 1.7!! Isn't that like incedibly high?? But that OC runs totally stable!! But am is it going to fry something with it that high? Other voltages seem...ok...not really high and vcore is only 1.36 which I thought would be higher. For instance on my PQ5 deluxe board. I have to run 1.4 vcore to get my 9.5x442 OC.

Just to be reckless and see what happens since I'm kind of stuck anyway, What I think I'll do is set that 9x450 OC in easytune, then copy down all the voltages and settings, and then manually plug in those settings in bios and try to start raising fsb to see what will happens. The problem is, easytune doesn't list all the settings it changes even in advanced view. For instance it may be changing the ram drivings and other settings that it doesn't show you. Maybe I can see them in bios but I don't think so, because when I look in there after setting a built in OC, everything still says AUTO.

I dunno, something to try I guess. Maybe I'm getting desperate for a fix now.

Anyway, if you have any tips I would love to hear them, and thanks for the reply.

I'm using BIOS F4 on a revision 1.0 board. First is my stable template, then the 2nd is the settings I'm currently trying (unsuccessfully) to reach 4.25GHz.
It is impossible to reach 4.25ghz stable with 1.33v Vcore when you use 1.28v for 4.1ghz. Try to up your vcore more.

I'm pretty sure that two computers, one non O/C with S3 and speedstep, and another one O/C @ 4Ghz without speedstep and without S3 will consume twice as the non-clocked (with energy saving) computer would !

I really miss the S3 resume... (now I have to shut down my computer every night ) and I can't stand the slow 2,83 Ghz of my Q9550 ...
    Please excuse my faulty english

i understand what you guys are saying and your right S3 should work while OCed.but me personally, when im on my computer and OCing that is the only time its on.once im done it get's shut down until i start it up again.mine boots up real fast, about 35 seconds from a cold start.and since i dont use it for anything but OCing theres just no need to ever leave it on.

The vdrop is kinda bad, under load CPU-Z only reports 1.248v and thats with LLC enabled. With the 2nd template I had posted, that results in CPU-Z reading 1.312v under load. So that's a .06v increase going from 4100 to 4250.

No I turn my PC off if I won't be needing it in the next 30mins, but I get that it should work while OC'ed.

Actually the S3 does works BUT it will stop working at certain frequency of cpu regardless of fsb and multi....eg Q6600 stops after 3.6 GHz and Q9650 after around 4.0-4.1 GHz....idk I did try messing with the BIOS without succes.
This problem not only buggered the UD3 line but also other Giga P45 board as far as I know the EP45(T)-Extreme.

Luckily turning on features works using ps/2 port with double click with mouse. But I did miss the S3 that enable to enter windows less than few second after shutting down.

I did flag this problem to gigabyte more than month ago. More than enough time. Probably they busy with X58.
If the fix doenst happen now most likely it will never happen.:
