yeah, mine 3837B395 is one of the worst i7 920 ever... I can't get 20x200 with 1,46Vcore and 1,4VTT Turbo off HT on stable.
Seems like the lower B Batches perform out well, but the BXXX with XXX > 150 are very bad.

Even 191x21 with same voltage settings are stable with prime, there are no errors, but in idle system crashes sometimes with bluescreen.

Is there anybody who can share his 4 Ghz setting? Can I fix multi to 21?

Does the OC strongly depend on mainboard?

i'd say in order of importance for cpu oc'ing

    1. cpu itself
    2. board used
    3. memory used
    4. end user

    Thanks.

I'm cooling with an EK Supreme and get ~80 °C @ 1,46VCore Load. (only my watercooling system for testing, 360er NexXxos radiator)
Chipset is cooled by an additional 120mm fan.

    Latest beta bios:

    I use

Multi x12, Turbo OFF, DDR Frequency BCLK *6 , QPI 4.800, Uncore BCLK *12, vdim 1,665V, VCore 1,45V, VTT 1,4V, Loadline on, HT ON, CPU Settings untouched, Mem Settings all AUTO

to max out BCLK using SetFSB. Right or wrong, did I forget enything?
Do i have to set special CPU setting options in bios?

(System hangs with 208 BCLK so far)

    Mem is CL8 1600 Corsair Dominator 1.65V

    Thanks 4 help.

Does anyone know what is "CPU QPI Drive Strength" and "IOH QPI Drive Strength"?? I have a crackling sound issue on my soundcard before, but the crackling sounds are all gone after I set both of these from Normal to Strong. Will it be safe if I set them to Strong and run for 24x7?

My B-batch-babe 3837B017 doesn't like 20 multi (it needs more Vcore to get stable), but runs great with 19.

It is 1 hour primestable @4.01(19x211) on air (I didn't test longer to spare it for stress on this speed, but i believe it can prime much longer). DFI LP UT has proven to have the capability of running stable at BCLK 211 too. It has been behaving excellent under heavy load for 24/7 (i have been using some very CPU-intensive applications for 3D-rendering).

I had to find the right VVT to get my CPU primestable. (It won't prime at all, will BSOD at the first moment with any other value than VVT=1.32 or 1.34)
I had to make sure MEM is stable, too (with long running MEM-testing to find the right timings), and i believe it has big impact on stability under stress (specially on BCLK 211).

    EDIT: to conclude:
Each CPU-batch is different (needs different Vcore and VVT), and each RAM needs different Vdimm to run stable on the specific divider/timing, but DFI LP UT can run stable on higher BCLK (with the right Vcore/VVT/Vdimm).

Nice overclock... I'm on 20 and stable, but might try 19 and see if i can run lower voltage, seeing what you've accomplished.

    Thanks

No matter how high voltage i use, i cant get it prime stable @ 4GHz

But here is the best stable setting for 3837B390

I have a 920, some mushkin ddr1600 cas 7, and this board. I can't get over 4 GHz to save my life. It can prime all day at 4 GHz, at DDR1600, but even with 1.55v vcore/vtt, cpu pll 1.9, any drive strengths, 4.1 or over is impossible.

ambient temp is around 24-34f, with watercooling, and a ton of fans on the mobo, so everything is nice and cold. CPU isn't hitting over 80c.

all those 4.4s with easy asus boards and air cooling make me sad

Put a quad core with 1.7v in an asus p5b or p5k deluxe and try to hit 4 ghz, prime, and you will hear 10x as much noise as this board.

to someone who used something that didn't whine, you may not be used to it, but this board doesn't whine at all compared to my old rig.

Finaly some improvement, now running 2 hour prime stable @ 3.9 GHz with settings 186 x 21

It would be obvius to use memmory @ default rated speeds of 1866, just setting Dram frequency x 10 / Uncore x 20, but this would need some insanely high CPU VVT not ment for 24/7 setup...!!??

Here are my settings, any idéers or comments on those are most welcome.

I have been running @4GHZ (19x211) HT:on 1.32v for over 1 week now, and it has been behaving so excellent that i had to try the next step, and ended up @4.2GHZ (200x21) Ht:off with 1.37/1.31/1.64v(Vcore/VVT/Vdimm, Load).

Ht:off runs much cooler (about 10'C less) and it seams to be within the ability av my air-cooling with acceptable temp for 24/7, but i have to try this and see how it behaves under daily use.

If it behaves, then i will try the same speed with HT:on after a while, but i have to reduce the Vcore, or improve my cooling to archive this, i guess.

    @4.2GHZ(200x21) HT:off, 1.37v, 1 hour primestable

I stopped the prime after 1 hour to spare the system for stress at this speed, but i believe it could run much longer.

@PRJ: Why don't you post those stable settings in the DFI forum. It would be better to share your settings in this forum.

    All users shall do this.

    You wrote

Turbo mode: For i7 920 stays at 21x for load tests in winxp sp3, for Vista i just installed (configuring now) if you leave default power management profile enabled it drops to 12x multi at idle and 21x at load as EIST needs to be enabled for Turbo on DFI. But set Vista power management to high performance and it stays at 21x as well under load.

I have e quistion about turbo mode on intel X58

When using intel turbo mode on a i7 920, does this change all cores to x 21 or is it only one of them that changes?

Does turbo overrule the multiplyer, or is there a difference between these two?

    19 x 186 Turbo on
    20 x 186 Turbo on

Reason I'm asking is when using everest it shows more than one speed...

    One question for cooling-guys.

All my temperatures shows that Core#4 is much cooler than Core#1. There is 8'C difference at primeload ( both 4GHZ and 4.2GHZ), and at Idle Core#4 is 6'C cooler than Core#1.

Can this indicate bad contact between the cooler and CPU, or it is just this way with i7?

    Hey all,

I got this board too. However, I am trying the "Turbo" setting and I can not get the 21 multi. Turbo mode = ON still 20 multi. Any idea? (Bios is from the box btw, january tag)

    Thanks

mine stable too. would you try arena and cpuz/realtemp, and watch the multi reading. coz bios 0217 has some fix on tdc/tdp if it not wrong, it might do affect something on i7 965.

Read eva's tips for x58, most likely you need to set vista power management to performance mode.

You must also enable EIST mode aswell to get the 21X multi with turbo set to on.

been up all night trying to get this to work. Cf error. my question is, even if the default boot settings have vdimm too low for d9gtr which I have, would this prevent the video signal from working?
