PS: I didn't test yet 0802 BIOS, but being a BETA I would like to flash it with those updates included. I will post it soon and let you all know how it performs when got the file.
PS2: I have in raid0 2 WD750AYYS RE2 HDDs. This 8.5.1030 module BIOS will recognize the array or do I need to rebuild?

    Thanks in advance...
yeh sure, http://rapidshare.com/files/195271613/C0802.ROM (updated IMSM, jmicron and asus slic added)

also you dont need to rebuild anything, but keep in mind i have no idea how usefull this is anyway (except asus slic ). But since i didnt notice any problems with updated modules, ill keep updating them until something breaks

    Lightbulb Infos

You're so kind & quick, thank you.
Now I'm going to flash it and will post some news soon....

    -= LE =-
I've done some testing with the modded C0802.ROM file.
    The good news:
    - The updated IMSM is awesome, it detects HDDs much faster now (all BIOSes until now are kinda detecting my HDDs twice, once before IMSM ROM initializes and again when its enumerating the RAID volumes. I know this because HDDs make some "clicks" when they're detected, and now, with 8.5.1030 version it does only the first one, thus shortening boot time with 1,5 seconds)
    - Vista updated something when booted (I think I know what)
    And unfortunately some bad news:
    - If I do a "Load Defaults" from within BIOS, Save&Exit -> PC would not boot at all (LCD remains with BL on and still says EN SETUP); Fix: ONLY by doing CLR CMOS, then enter BIOS and setup-it with manual settings. Also I've tested again loading defaults, this time saving an OC profile first but with same result. Cleared CMOS, loaded OC profile and all was OK.
    - My USB stick is not detected when entering BIOS and initiate either a EZ-Flash or launching OC Profile, thus I'm unable to save my CMOS settings to stick. What interferes with USB and this BIOS is beyond me, but certainly the unmodded 0802 doesn't do that.

For this reason I want to ask you if you're so kind again and have some time to mod 0802 ONLY with updated IMSM so that I can test again to see if that fixes something or not.

PS1: beta 0802 BIOS as I've said doesn't have those symptoms
PS2: I've not tested the JMicron module as I don't have right now any IDE in my system. I seldom add a friend's HDD for copy/backup.

    Anyway, good work!

Hi , i was wondering if mikeyakame could comment on my previous question

I looked around and I see that the Rampage Bios can be used on the Asus Maximus formula, which is the board I have. My problems since day one with this M/B is what no matter what I do I can not push it above 3.8Ghz using the QX6700 (did it few times but nothing really stable for long term use)
This thread is giving my hope in terms of doing just that.
Will have to flash my Maximus to Rampage first.

    In the mean time.
    Following the example of EOD post nr 1605 page 65 “I was running a Q6700 at 3.8GHz at 423 FSB x 9, “
My self was not able to boot. Went few steps up for the the volts in general with no luck.

On the QX6700 bios is 13.2 I have
CPU Ratio Control : Manual 8
    - Ratio CMOS Setting :
    FSB Frequency : 460
FSB Strap to North Bridge : 400
    PCI-E Frequency: 100
    CPU Voltage : 1,50625V
    CPU PLL Voltage : 1.60V
    North Bridge Voltage : 1,63V
    DRAM Voltage : 2,02V
    FSB Termination Voltage : 1,52v
    South Bridge Voltage : 1,075v
    Loadline Calibration : enable
    CPU GTL Reference : auto

Can you give me a general advise on my existing setup before flashing the maximus to rampage.

    Thank you

hmm, this is wierd, for me ezflash is detecting usb key, however OC profile doesnt... you are sure this is because of moded bios? i mean i didnt notice this until i started to use moded bios and i just tought its some bug that i dont care for it :P anyway ill look in to it sooner or later (later means when next bios is released if not sooner :P)

Hard to say different bios altogether. Cross flash it and see what you come up with first.

I've said before the bios info module is corrupt when you write a modified bios image with current MMTool. That's probably why.

I just booted will CPU 1.53V PLL 1.67 but it crashed the moment i put in the usb to copy the file.. will give a go just now.

PS the PL 6 will not boot so i have it in auto just now
I try 1st 0.67x on the CPU but eventually booted with GTLs 0.65x CPU and 0.63x NB

Are you trying to flash your BIOS while your system is overclocked?

You should at least load setup defaults or better do a Clear CMOS before flashing your board.

    Definitely.

Never do things like flashing at anything other than DEFAULT settings. Always Load default settings before flashing bios. Its the #1 rule to not bricking your board.

Only thing I flash overclocked is my GPU heh, but a bad flash on that can be fixed easily enough with a blind flash batch run from autoexec.bat or type it blind from prompt lol

    Edit:

    Update:
Asus guys here are going to replace the CPU socket on my board, and run diags after it's replaced to see if the damaged contacts are the whole cause of my boards current kinda working state. I'd like to see 500mhz fsb post, right now all I can see post is 400mhz They said it'd take a couple of days to replace the socket, I'm guessing they need to run XOR loops on all the pins to make sure they are contacting correctly, which is probably 6-8 hours of just leaving it there to run the diagnostics.

It's nice of the Asus AU repair guys in Sydney to do this for me, thankfully they take their own guys who work there seriously and go out of their way for them. Hell they didn't even have to say they would do it for me, they could have said just RMA the board and wait 4 weeks! It's good to know there's some good lads out there who will go out of there way to fix up something that can be fixed by them and not pass the buck.

    for Asus AU

No no, iam not that nob!! i performed the flash after clearing settings, loading the default values..

The funny thing is that after reading the post i booted back to bios settings. loaded defaults, rebooted and got CPU INIT
So now iam a bit stuck there.
Did a clear Cmos, nothing. took out the battery got into the bios. saved default settings went out to flash with original bios but will not boot again due to cpu init.
will work on it this evening after work.

its not that. I replaced modules with amimmwin, fixed bios header + ebb checksum manualy, checked that modules 80 is normal size and it still doesnt work. This seems to be incompatibility with new ich roms and bios. Oh well, this seems to be only bug tho. Also with custom ich rom, alt+f2 ezflash you get usb drives, if you enter ezflash thrue bios they are gone....

Ahh great, glad you took the time to fix them up properly, mostly for the sake of the guys who see "modified bios" and their eyes light up like new years fireworks

Have you tried replacing the ISM rom with the 8.0.x.y.z version from the Rampage II Extreme bios? Should be same one used in all the other X58 bios too so shouldn't matter which you extract it from really, I only have an R2E bios to compare with heh.

I don't know what else mmtool/amimmwin breaks when writing the bios, but I know from experience in using Ket's modified P5Q bios releases on a friends P5Q deluxe broke previous OC Profiles somehow. They magically vanished from the system after a bios flash, and previous bios profiles wouldn't work either.

Perhaps there is static address or port mapping in the bios asm code which EZ Flash code relies on for accessing USB devices? God only knows where you'd start to look though for something like that. 1B alone is 440kb, and thats over 100000 lines of compiled assembly!

doesnt work, something in 8.x series breaks that bios USB detection, 7.x series works fine, its working normaly with 7.6.0.1011... oh well, at least i can finaly stop modifying bios each time

    Hello everyone ....

I have a problem with my OC. I am almost 100% stable at 500FSB, but when I try going over, windows freezes ..

I've tried using Bios and in windows with SetFSB, but without success ...

In windows with SetFSB 500 = OK, but then at 500,3 windows freezes ....

Can anyone tell me what I should try, User Bios ver.820.

personally i'd go with 100 or 200ps cpu clock skew and normal nb clock skew.
next i'd try 100ps nb clock skew with 200ps or 300ps clock skew.

Thats where to start I can only you help on your feet, the rest you will have to climb on your own. Not even I can hold your hand with this, nobody can because it's impossible to know how much clock skewing your particular setup needs to go beyond this point.

You'll have to play around with settings and probably bomb your cmos settings every few posts when you get it wrong! Just save your working values in one OC profile, note down what worked and didn't and use your second OC profile as testing. Save frequently when you improve your stability.

Where can I find such a program to run diagnostics to check that the pins are all contacting the CPU? Or do you need special tools for that?

You can find the method for XOR looping to test pin connectivity in the actual Intel datasheet for X48 Express Chipset, but without the right tools and diagnostic equipment it's just more data on a sheet

Just for your knowledge I fixed the issue with my mix of memories, only changing the order in the slots.
Before I had OCZ on A0/B0 and A-Data on A1/B1. I was able to reach near 980 MHz after a lot of tries.

During the WE I put A-Data on A0/B0 and OCZ on A1/B1........and voilà: 1060 MHz stable at first try.
Sometimes the game of the three cards may help a desperate overclocker

mikeyakame - Its pretty awesome that the Asus guys in AU are going to replace your socket, it must be a pretty difficult job I would think? As you mentioned its probaby cheaper and easier for them to just send out a new board but that would have you without a motherboard for much longer time! Please keep us posted on how that works out for you.
