This is XtremeSystems, going public with new parts at their best is why this site exists today. This will not change.

This has become a heavily sponsored sport, work hard for many years, build killer cooling, and stay consistant is the best advice I have for you.

Mike.. I like F1 too, it is very popular in Finland. If Ferrari would be allowed to use Turbo at season 2009 and gain 500HP+, I think most of the people would loose their interest to that sport pretty fast. See the point? "Just kidding"
I do see the point very clearly - that's why I included the little "certain set of restrictions"

Money is always a relative thing..
people compete based upon their interest and financial ability.
    Many different levels.
You have the masses that are happy with a new dell with a stock speed quad in it.
Then you have the many levels above those.
My top dual socket system has a $500.00 MB, $3200.00 in the 2 cpu's, $300.00 in memory, a $120.00PSU and a raptor all in a Lian Li case..
You as an individual decide how much money you will spend.
Now as to the i7's, a 920 at under $300.00 just went 5000mhz for runmc this week so it shows you don't need the top hardware to go fast..

Far from closed, bob cranked out a good 05 score with an i7 940 and has lots of potential for more. Lots of guys coming up , lots of guys retiring .
Consistancy is what you need to be reognized by a sponsor, one hit wonders cannot make a manufacure happy.
Look at all other sports, they have sponsors so this is no different. Manufactures want the best parts shown in the win column.

Guatam and Gomeler and the most recent entries into this arena that I have noticed, so it's possible to enter at the bottom, but I don't see them posting WRs without the top-notch sponsored parts.

Or you can take me for exmaple, built 1HP cascade years ago, but when I posted about it, noone showed any interest, so you'll never see it. For months, when noone else was benching, I was posting up scores for XS. It's a Closed Competition.

Good luck to you guys trying.

And thanks for the preview, Mike/Fugger.
I think there are lots of factors involved in who gets what from whom and when.
it can be timing, a manufacturer deciding on a certain date that they will invest X amount and then looking for who to sponsor and finding Johhny Smith has done X in the recent time frame and picking him.
Or maybe seeing the face of a guy with his accomplishments and deciding that the company likes his "image" to represent them.
Then factor in that this group of guys is really a small group and I can see your frustration at trying to break into that group.
Sometimes it's just plain luck and has nothing to do with your abilities as an individual.

I did this when I was 18 without even using LN2. :S (Actually the only reason I could pull that off is cuz I got a steal on a pair of X1900's on eBay )

Look back a bit in time and you see Vince with his refresh button on ZZF trying to get an X800 the minute it retails.

As for the D0 thing I'm not totally wild about it being on the HoF, but the speed isn't unattainable by a C0.

And even mister fugger had his humble beginnings, lol.

Oh noes. Someone did it with a chip that nobody could buy yet. No one could tell the difference between that score and a "normal" one. The sport is utterly ruined.

I can tell you all about sponsorships. I am a sponsored R/C aerobatic pilot taking a break from the hobby for awhile. I used to worry about sponsorships and thought I needed them to do well. I found I didn't. When I stopped worrying about them, and what everybody else was doing, that's when I got one. I also found out the best way not to get one is to ask for one.

It's also a two way street. They don't just give out sponsoships and company support becasue they love you. You have to give them something in return, and it does entail some work. With my aerobatic sponshorship, they literally put me on their advertising team ina way. They also put me on their sales teamn, and their support team, and their testing team.

They do this because it helps them some with R&D, it puts the company in a good light, it helps sell products, and showcase them to people so they can see what the best really is. It was the same with my aerobatic sponsorships. I changed from feeling like I needed them to be very grateful for what those people gave to me, and I tried to return the favor by helping them with any tests they needed, and flying hard...every single day it wasn;t raining I was out at the field. I went before work, and I went after work, and flew all weekend long on the weekends. That's what it took. I had to keep my flying polished, because I wanted to showcase what those products were capable of in extreme use for extended hours of flying time. It was not easy for me. What came easier for tohers took me hours of practice to refine.

I see the same things here. These guys here are very good at this. They got that way by doing alot of work, and the companies saw that. All one can do is try, and if they work hard the companies will notice. It may not happen for everybody though as sponsorships are limited. These sponsorships are what drive development. Without them we would not have the awesome stuff we do today. It is because of these people and many like them that work for Intel that make these things perform and OC like they do.

Make your goals personal goals. Don't go for the WR, go for making your system better and better, and enjoy it, and maybe you'll hit those WR's. I always "went for the sponsorships" and never got one. When I looked at things differently, that's when I was approached.

I look forward to seeing more runs on this CPU, and 47K was an awesome run! I'd love to see this CPU on SLI or Tri SLI. I've noticed these things really are awesome with SLI.

I definitely would not be betting against seeing 50K real soon assuming it hasn't happened already.

Way to go man, and glad to see the WR is back home.
