I tried a bunch of BIOS settings, didn't seem to help tonight. I wiped Vista and just re-installed, I installed with only 2GB in (1 stick) and have yet to put the 2nd stick in and so far no BSOD. Far Cry 2 was guranteed BSOD in under 10 minutes I just didn't 25+ before closing it out, I've got the 1 stick in a black slot as opposed to yellow as well...guess I need to try stick #2.

Also I did CME=Performance. FSB VTT 1.2. NB 1.4V. Static DRAM read Disable, Clock Twister=Lighter, DRAM Read/Write Disable.

I garnered these settings from here in this thread, a post by a OCZ Rep., and a thread off a german OCing forum all relating to this board.

Oh and I did run a bootable memtest before changing all this and it did a full pass with both sticks 0 errors. Also tried Prime95 small fft and a run at large fft and no errors....we'll soon see if I am unable to use both stick of this ram kit, or if the yellow slots were bad juju...sorry for the long post.

    Hello Carlos

Your Voltages are a little bit High Using Air Coling.
I suggest you to lower the Voltages their are a litlle Risky IMHO.

Try to set Lower FSB first using this settings and later you can try rising FSB and Voltages to see where it is stable.

CPU Voltage: 1.30 in Bios (Maximum 1.35-1.40 for Air Cooling)
CPU GTL Voltage Reference (0/2): Auto
CPU GTL Voltage Reference (1/3): Auto
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.52 (Maximum 1.60 for Air Cooling)
FSB Termination Voltage: 1.24 (Maximum 1.35)
    DRAM Voltage: 2.04
    NB Voltage: 1.24 (Maximum 1.35)
    NB GTL Reference: Auto
    SBridge Voltage: 1.10
    PCIE SATA Voltage: 1.50

Set also to set CPU Margin Enhancement:Performance and your rams as closer possible to 1000Mhz .

Remeber also that the Mobo Overvoltes a little bit, i measured with a tester and the voltages are quiet similar like in this picture.

    Hi!
What should i do to lower PL level? Now i have PL 10 with 445x9 1.256v cpu-z, 890mhz RAM 1.84v in BIOS, 5-5-5-15 timings. I tried to rise vram but it hasn't helped, enabling Pull Ins also hasn't helped.

I used to find my Rock Solid first and later i lowered the PL from 10 downwards still the system does no more boot, for example if you reach PL 7 and the system does not boot set to 8 and boot.

    I reached PL7 now RS.

Could someone help me with this? I got my system to run at 3.8ghz for 7 hours prime stable (pic), but for some reason at those settings my system froze twice and even BSoD'd. I reduced it to 450FSB for now, and its perfectly fine. My ram is rated for DDR2 1066, so that shouldn't be a problem. Should I have tried prime for longer?
I can list full specs later, not at home right now

Just this little advice for you - try running IBT before Prime.

I dont know if it works better than Primes Small FFT (CPU) test but its surely better than Blend (mostly RAM) test, it simply stresses more. If I pass 5-10 loops of IBT (~22-45mins) i can run Prime Blend for 6h+ with no errors.

I bet posting your BIOS template would be helpful too and might be easier with that than stress-testing everything.

i found my rock solid on 4005mhz, but i cant lower PL even to 9. I think something is holding its back, i cant lower PL with 3600mhz, cant lower with 4005 and also can't lower at ~4500mhz. It's always at 10.

If you are running 1:1 chances are you'll never get it stable under PL 10.Need to put the ram on a divider to run a lower PL on this board. Truth be told tho, other than benching, I have not seen any real life speed difference with lower PL.

    Hey guys,

I don't know if this is a noob question, but I just got a new system a couple of months ago P5Q-Deluxe, Q9550 etc. Just to clarify I didn't build it myself. The question I want to ask is in regards to the CPU fan. I think it was last week I noticed that the CPU fan wasn't spinning. I seem to remember it stopped running shortly after the system was in sleep mode. It's a Noctua 1300rpm fan on a TRUE.

The place I bought it from said this is normal and to go into the Bios and disable Q-Fan. Well I went into the Bios and Q-Fan is not enabled, it's already disabled. I tried unplugging the fan and noticed some dust on it so I blew it out and plugged it back in and on bootup it started working, then again today I noticed it stopped spinning.

Is there some other setting like Q-Fan I need to disable? I just want the fan to run at full speed all the time. If there is no other setting to try what should I do? Should I try a different fan or could the CPU fan header in the MB be faulty? It's plugged directly into the CPU fan header with the 3 pin plug.

Could it be a Bios problem? The MB is still running 0704.

OK if no one else replied so far, ill give it a try:

No other setting like q-fan in BIOS that i know of...

I dont have any straight answer to your question but if i were you, i would:
    1. plug it into one of the chassis fan connectors
    2. just change the fan, see if its working properly...

And i would update the BIOS - thats for sure.

Perhaps ppl, who actually use/used Noctua as a CPU fan on that mobo can comment on this1 and give you better answers/advices.

Does this happen only in sleep mode ? If so you have nothing to worry about

I tried unplugging the fan and noticed some dust on it so I blew it out and plugged it back in and on bootup it started working, then again today I noticed it stopped spinning.
sounds like theres nothing wrong with the fan/mb,I also usea noctua to cool my cpu and in sleep mode all fans shut down hence "sleep mode"

Nope like I said I noticed it stopped spinning last week a little while after coming out of sleep mode. What I did then was turn the computer off a couple of times and it started working again by itself. Yesterday I tried doing the same thing, but it didn't work so I took the fan out gave it a clean uplugged it and plugged it back in and it started working again, then again was I was browsing the net it stopped spinning again.

It's not spinning right now, but the TRUE is keeping the CPU cool enough as the ambient temperature is quite low.

I'll try your suggestions thank you. I just hope it's not the MB that is screwed.

Should I update to the latest Bios or is there a different one to use? Also when updating do I have to reset the old Bios or can I just leave all the settings and update?

I seriously doubt its the mobo. More like something with the fan or possibly some software.

Just try one of those 3-pin connectors 1st, see if that helps.

Two latest BIOSes are OK for most people in this thread.
Theres alot of info about different BIOSes in here too but I think its safe for you to go with the newest (1702) one...

And yes you reset all your settings to defaults when updating BIOS.
Oh and update using EZ flash from bios/dos. Dont use windows software.

Prime's fine, but games are unstable

So, I'm finding more and more that I can prime and not get any errors but loading up a game will cause a restart within a couple minutes or less

    I tried:
    400x9
    vcore: 1.275
    PLL: 1.5
    VTT: 1.2
    NB: 1.3
    GLT's: AUTO
Temps are approx. 47C under Prime load (WC'd)

    margin ench: Performance
    Static Read: Disable
    DRAM Trainign: Disable
    Twister: Ligther
Ram is running below stock speed rating.

I can run hyperpi 32M 4 threads, small fft prime, etc. And get no stability issues. However 3d is completely unstable, 1.30 Vcore didn't not work either.

I'm back at 423x9 @1.35V and it will do everything except SMP folding@home for the most part, but I feel like I shoudln't need this much voltage.

Anyone have any ideas when your Prime Stable, but 3d causes restart. Am I needing more PLL or VTT? I'm coming from a Presler rig so the Quad overclocking thing is seeming a bit tedious.

wel, got the board about almost 2 weeks now, got my E6750 easily back to 3.64Ghz@1.464v, but, the only problem, while I was doing fsb testing, unable to boot 500FSB (@multi of 6), maybe my ram, because it's a weird combination, 6gb, 2x1gb, 2x2gb , same corsair sets, just other size, but it worked fine on my Gigabyte EX38-DS5 and 1000mhz for the pc6400 was easily bootable, but fell out after half an hour, but I want to push this cpu further dan it's lame 3.64ghz, would be lovely 3.7-3.75ghz 24/7

    Pulled this E6750 allready to 3.92Ghz with a P5K Deluxe @1.6v ^^

    Loop 2 => DDC18w w/ EK X-top V2 - PA120.1 - MIPS mosfet 1&2 - mips NB - Mips Ramfreezer 4 - MIPS SB - Multires 150

I can tell you this: I havent tried my E8600 any higher than 4.5GHz but its stable in small FFT until then too.

IBT and Prime Blend fail sometimes tho, even when i set everything back to stock settings ---> faulty RAM (Mushkin 996599 2x2GB). At least i think so.

So maybe try prime blend or IBT to see if your RAM is OK. If that passes i would try furmark stability test since your 3d crashes might be caused by gfx card (driver, maybe the PSU?)

Since I got my hands on the p5q deluxe I have been having a random reoccuring problem...the system will sometimes just shut down (like the power cord was pulled out) regardless of system load...

replaced ram mushkin xp2 8000 2x2gb with gskill 8500 2x2gb same thing happens so ok its not the ram....

replaced with another p5q deluxe this time the new revision a3....worked fine for a week then again same problem...

the sytem is stable prime 7 hours occt 1hour and ibt 10 passes also ran memtest 120 % but yet the pc just randomly shuts off once in a while regardless of load... never had a bsod

    any help would be appreciated

    Shtrafenhoofen:

Your mobo was replaced, your RAM was replaced. Your CPU seems OK. Time for PSU?

No seriously check with different PSU IMO.

Or your custom CPU fan turns itself off randomly (like the Noctua couple of posts up) and causes overheating which leads to power down (that would be more unusual than a PSU issue)
Either that or issue with electricity in your house/wall socket - i know, sounds stupid :x

Edit: jdmR beat me to it
