Another beta build (near final) tomorrow?

I'm ashamed to admit this, but I can't tell that I'm applying the update or not.
I've got the .msu file and when I click it I get a popup window telling me the command line options, but even when I try them I get the same results, no indication that anything has happened and if it created a log file as I instructed, I don't know where !

Now I've figured it out, it didn't like to execute from my network drive I downloaded it to, once I copied it locally clicking on it prompted a search where it was found and installed. No reason to stay away from the beta, it works great and as I mentioned above, I didn't have any problems with it altering any MP3s, but perhaps the Win 7 user doesn't have write access to the MP3s stored on my linux server anyways... I've never been too concerned with internal network security before, but maybe I should be !

This article in ComputerWorld backs up what I suspected about the Friday release of the public beta; it's still build 7000.
Also, from the article, regarding the MP3 issue:http://www.computerworld.com/action/...5&pageNumber=3Here's the scoop from a Microsoft support forum: "When MP3 files are added (either manually or automatically) to either the Windows Media Player or the Windows Media Center library, or if the file metadata is edited with Windows Explorer, several seconds of audio data may be permanently removed from the start of the file. This issue occurs when files contain thumbnails or other metadata of significant size before importing or editing them."

Where are you guys getting the beta from other than on the Windows site (which doesn't have the beta available until tomorrow afternoon)?
But you have to have a subscription to either of those and that will cost you some money. The free and open beta should be available tomorrow afternoon from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/ (pretty vague on when exactly, but I expect Friday afternoon for the US west coast).

Thanks for the info, don't think I will pay for a subscription for it, I will wait for the limited release tomorrow. Hopefully I am home at the time and don't have to waste time DLing it at work.
Hopefully, 2.5 million people aren't going to be all over it for a Windows Beta.
Also, the .iso can be booted into a fresh partition correct? I don't need to upgrade Vista SP1, because I have XP Pro.
Im downloading my Technet now...(damnit! its only Dling at 400kbps thats like 1/10th of my normal speed when DLing from microsoft) they must be getting raped.

First, the time: I read that it's noon Pacific time.
Not completely sure what you're asking. I read something today that indicated you had to do it as an upgrade from Vista SP1. If you scroll up a few posts, I put in a link to ComputerWorld (?) which had an article about it. There was mention of it in that article.

You will be able to download the ISO, but I'm not sure how it will work with the 'keys' though. Here is some more information if you're interested: http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/default.aspx
You can install it as a fresh install, you will have to burn the ISO file to a DVD though, but I guess everyone here is capable of doing so.

There are already security patches and some stuff for H.264 decoding, but to be honest... ive never had such a slow download from MSFT before.
Whats the difference between downloading the Reg. Beta and the "Checked Build"?
