i finally got some nerve to oc my q66 a little more. i was at 3.2, upped the multi and volts til i ended up at 3.6 at 1.45v (1.41 after vdroop) with ok temps under 65c. im on air. i had to up my north bridge +.1v.. is this ok for 24/7(i dont really leave it on 24/7 but just asking)..will my proc die?? i plan on keeping this pc at least 3 more years. my mobo is a budget p35 gigabyte board with only 1 4pin 12v plug for the cpu. (most have 2 i think). is that gonna be a problem??

what should i do about the cpu power savings options..c1e, eist and the other ones. right now they are all disabled. thanks ahead of time for any help.

How long did you run Prime95?

Overclocking is a risk in itself, but if it's properly cooled the life expectancy can be lengthened a great deal.

It should be okay with a P4 connector, but the 8-pin (EPS) is better for overclocking (especially for a Quad) as it supplies more stable voltage to the CPU.

As for the power-saving options, you could enable EIST and C1E if you prefer and test again.

Lucky so. I have to change other voltages apart from cpu to up it to 3'6?

i have one with a VID of 1.2125 and its currently running 3.6ghz at 1.440v. i managed to get it up to 4047 mhz in safe mode in vista because it wouldnt boot normal for some reason...

oh the voltage was only 1.57/ i have a huge vdroop. it was 1.6 + 101.25% in bios, but it was 1.57 in windows.

oh on a side note my board has an option that says cpu drive strength. its currently set to low but i can also make it high. waht does this do for me?

here is mine... im running it on a ocz vendetta 2... gets to 70-72*C after an hour of prime but it is nice and stable for 24/7 use.... i tried going for 4 ghz but no luck... it boots at 4.05ghz at ~1.62V (1.7V in bios) but it gives a BSOD while loading windows... more NB voltage didnt help... the vcore drops to about 1.45V when running prime according to cpuz at 3.6ghz.... its set to 1.55V in bios and the screenshot below shows at idle in windows

    Are you sure about that?
    This is mine actually:

What would be the best board for this cpu anyways? The one I have now has a pretty significant drop of like 0.14V between the Bios setting and Windows load....

Meh, VID tends become more and more irrelevant once you get down below 1.265v... My 1.2125v doesn't seem to do as well as most 1.225s or 1.2375s... even a few 1.2625s do better.

Crappiest Q6600 G0 ever made on the face of the earth reporting!

    VID 1.2750v

requires 1.315v to be stable at 3.2Ghz, craps out even at 1.5xx bios volts @ 3.6Ghz

I received an L819 yesterday from Newegg and so far so good. 3.6Ghz @ 1.39v on a P5Q Deluxe. Still lowering the voltage to see how low she'll go. Im guessing 3.8 is doable though.

I just did a quick test on my Q6600

    3.6GHz @ 1.296v

I'd run prime 95 longer but its so boring .

My Vid is 1.3v, I had no problem hitting 3.4Ghz@1.38v BIOS on Air and I am now on 3.6Ghz@1.48v BIOS on Water with temps under load well under 60C. The Vdroop is huge on my board though, it drops almost .1V under load.

I am thinking about running my q6600 at 3.2 how do I know what voltage to run it at? I have a TRUE 120 black edition and a noctua fan on it... at stock speeds in idle it sits at 39C (without lapping it) Any recommendations?

I would not call that crappy... one of the Q6600s I had was 1.3125v VID... and needed 1.45v to be stable at 3.5GHz, 1.65+v to be usable at 3.6GHz.

Once I had a really un-OCable model. It needed 1.55V to be stable at 3.6

I think that the best processors have L728 - L737 FPO

i got mine to boot with 3,959 mhz on air with 1,7 Vcore set in bios( scary lol). the computer worked fine but it lasted about 2 sek in prime. my best stable clock is 3,6ghz and 1,6Vcore. ran prime for 8 hours (small fft witch produces most heat btw) and the temp was about 60C all the way on air...lots of it

You sure the CPU-Z readout is correct, I have high doubts about my P45T-UD3P... also you put 1.425 and get 1.296, that's a big difference even with LLC disabled on such a modern board...
My CPU-Z stays put with or without LLC around 1.2 with 1.23-1.26 set in bios with LLC enabled ( E8500 CPU does 4ghz with 1.18volts on the P5Q Dlx) and doesn't even move when being stresses with Linpack...

Only a DMM will bring the correct voltage...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Not even close to being crappy. Mine is 1.3250 it takes and mine runs 3.5 at 1.5 and does the samething craps out at 3.6.

It worked just like that on my P5E so...

When i enabled LLC (when I was clocked at 4.0GHz) it increased my volts from 1.62v (BIOS) to 1.65v windows. Also everest reads it the same 2.

I got some infos about L735A831 fpo. I heard that the FPOs until L734 are quite overclockale, but from 735 thease cpus are very-very unOCable. For example 400fsb wall, and more than 1.4V to be stable on 3.6Gigs
