When there are crunching tests the Intel CPU's are way faster. Just as i feared. Integer performance of the K10,5 is as bad as that of the K10 and K8. AMD did not upgrade that for a wile. And now that the i7 has all the good things like on die MC and a fast bus. AMD i lost again.

PHII realy stands against the 45nm Penryn cpu's. I hope there next cpu (bulldozer ??) will be on par with the refresh of Nehalem. (Sandy Bridge ??)

Common Soft..show us what can do that little beast!!

Remember that Q9770 is the most expensive cpu you can find...so the phenom II price-performace is going to be very very good.

The reviewer cheated lol he used the i7 940 @ 3ghz so that was clock to clock comparison to the PhII they should have used a i7 920 which is rite now a bit more expensive than the PhII 940 but i think that might change.

For the people who now like to do their trans coding on the GPU's rather than CPU's this is a better deal than the i7 setup...!!!

Motiv the guy said you can not overclock the PhII @ 3.8 with all 4 cores at 1.4v and the pic shows it can also the review shows its the sweet spot for this CPU.

As you mayrecall the sweet spot for the ii7 920 was 3.6Ghz with a ULTRA 120 dont know which cooler did the reviewer use?? anyone knows??

For crunching it stands even below the Penryn in some cases but how many of us do you think regularly have to crunching data. On the other hand people who buy such CPU's do game a lot and that is where the improvements made to the core seem quite good.

Would you rather spend money on an i7 that performs almost same as a cheaper PhII does??? Plus on top the added cost of M/b etc

Score are very low compared to score from Jmax.
11500 cpu score Vantage at 3.8 versus 13200 obtained by Jmax at 4GHz.

Jmax 4Ghz score in 3dmark06 is a tad lower,it should be around 5400-5600pts.Maybe it's because all the tests we have seen used very low Northbridge/L3 clock of 1.8Ghz(not to be confused with HyperTransport clock which runs at default 1.8Ghz and doesn't affect phenom(II) performance that much).

Well, when I see results with actual 1066ram and with the right timings, then I will settle with the results. this 800mhz ram and 5.7.7.21 34 or what ever, is not normal LOL.

    Question

I think all of their systems (both AMD and Intel) at OCW are sub-optimal.. The 3DVantage scores tells that, the Core i7 940 is a monster in that one (for CPU score, like this one here)... Weird scores..

Yeah i just saw some of their previous tests, weird stuff indeed .
I guess OCWB might as well put a tutorial "How to make a rig underperform on various desktop apps" and make it a sticky at their home page .It should contain all the BIOS,OS and driver settings needed to make your rig much slower than it should be .Icing on the cake could be a mini tournament in which user could compete for the lowest legit score(no AV scans in the background allowed! ).
Sorry for the joke,it was too good to pass .

True. Well i'm folding if my pc is on so it would get me a higher score :P
But the most important thing for me is performance in games and the power it uses when running 100% load. (performance per watt in gaming)

Cant wait to test one myself.

Some early Phenom II testers/players are concluding that Phenom II plus the dragon platform is better for gaming than i7. That i7 is superior for number crunching and multi-threaded apps. From what I gather, the ability to jump the NB to 2400-2700 gives the Phenom II the edge plus the high overclocks at relatively low temps. (My sense is that you will need a very highend video card to reach these lofty heights.)

Maybe tomorrow we will have more data to support or disprove these early conclusions.

You mentioned that you hit a wall. I wonder if you lowered HT link to 1000 or lower if you would break through? Every oc over 5+ I have seen has a much lower HT Link.

    right ???
the nice thing about technology is that it gets better over time. so what cannot be done in the past can be done in the future. why are you condemning something just because it has not been able to be done before?

phenom II is going to be amazing it appears. mostly because of the way it can be overclocked. makes me wonder when we heard all those reports in the past that amd is releasing a stock 4ghz cpu if they could actually become true with the deneb fx. i have not been waiting for deneb i have been waiting for deneb fx. been waiting for it for years. (an fx quad) the phenom II 940 is just gonna hold me over until then

I think I posted it only over in the other topic yet - A79A-S can not do HT Link 1.0 that easy - bios option is missing and AOD only allows me to go down to 6. I am waiting for a new bios to continue past 5 (hopefully )
