I love this game :'( :@
Edit: a complete NIGHTMARE to install too, worst installation EVER
This game is officially priced at Rs.499 (~ $10) here, while some vendors are selling them for Rs.420 (~$9), Cant wait for my copy.
Originally set to release along with the European launch on December 3rd for an insanely low price point of INR 499, or approximately US $10, the game’s launch in India is being pushed back an unspecified number of days, as the official Rockstar / 2K distributor in the country, e-Xpress Interactive feels that it would be insensitive (not to mention, asking for trouble) if the game is put on shelves less than a week after what is one of the worst terrorist incidents India has ever seen.

- Had to install Rockstar Social Club
- Had to install Games for Windows Live
- Had to install the Game and securom
- Be told I cant save the game without a Live account
- Get Windows Live Account
- Get Games Account
- Be told I don't have a Rockstar Social Club account every time the game is booted
- Sit through loading screen with no loading bar
- Instantly notice the major graphical glitches. Cannot see anything in opening scene. Just the ocean and a few jaggies
- Get to gameplay and framerate is 10-20 fps.
- Restart game but be told I don't have the original disk by securom
- Try for the third time and securom works
- Repeat the same issues

Ok, now a question for all those (un)lucky ppl that managed to play this "great" release: Is there a proper support for steering wheels?
I apologise if its allready been stated, too lazy to check thru all the hate/anger towards RS posts![]()

<45fps with such a comp. and 10fps in some places? wow, those are awful fps :/
are the statistics gathered by the benchmark? i mean, 49% cpu usage only? seems like another dualcore optimized game... crap fps but it's not using the full potential of the hardware. didn't they say it'll be optimized for quadcores as well?
*edit* after reading the other replies: wow, rockstar really did screw this game up![]()

I was thinking GTA4 for PC would sell lots of copies and I was about to pick up a copy but not now after this Securom crap + Live account requirement for online play + bugs I completely changed my mind about that thought. PC game developers, stop screwing up the PC game releases, thank you. Sorry but I don't pity them the slightest for the piracy as long as they screw up releases like this. They've got to the point they're turning away potential consumers by applying a crapload of protection that is only a harm for legit copy owners and additional requirements like needing a live account etc doesn't help much either. They'd probably get more money by using a light oldschool-like protection that doesn't bother the people's computers which would probably also lead to slightly higher piracy (but nothing severe) but also decrease the amount people that neither buys or downloads it or people who only download it and buy the game instead. That's a win-win situation, more ppl get the game and more people would buy it. PC games doesn't need MORE protection, they need LESS to increase sales in the current situation.

Does anyone here have the Steam version?
Is everything the same as the retail version?
So, the game lags everywhere, even indoors...
Is the game rendering the entire City all the time?
Can anyone say how the online gaming works?
Do you have to pay to play online, or is there a Windows Live account that's free with restrictions?
Is there a server browser, or do you join into a random server through the (annoying) matchmaking mod?
True. Developers think they will be able to reduce piracy by using SecuRom and other similar methods, but in reality it's provoking even more piracy.
No matter what, hackers always seem to be able to crack SecuRom games, so why try? SecuRom games are so easy to crack but are so incredibly annoying that they would probably make more money if they didn't use any security software.
I was about to get GTAIV + the Vice City offer on Steam, but I hesitated due to the possibility that this would happen. I'm probably going to hold off until they fix the performance issues.
i have no problem with game, install was good and FPS are great too
in a Q&A earlier they stated the steam version would be exactly the same as the retail version, even though steam might add own copy protect mechanisms and stuff to the already implemented copy protection.
i think a link to this Q&A was posted in the news section as well (if my memory serves me right)

If you're talking about the IGN interview, I already saw that. I still doubt the Steam version is completely the same + whatever Steam decides to add on. Steam may have required the removal of some security software to work better with their system. And what about the multiplayer and dev. console interface? Does Steam have control over those too?
Exactly my experience in chronological order
footnotes:
1: If you do wish to play offline then you can create a windows live "home" account which just produces a basic profile on your computer and you can skip past the rockstar lounge account nag screens er i mean creation stage...
2: Even a GTX 280 is not enough to use both high textures and max out view distance @ 2560 x 1600....i'm limited to view distance 31/100 at this res ... to get max in both you need to have 1.5gig plus graphics ram and then SLI, Crossfire or have a 4870 / 4850 x2 ..... none of which apparently work ....
3: Managed to play for 2 hours before my first CTD
Anyone managed to max out the gfx @ 2560 x 1600 and get playable framerates?

OBR it's easy enough to say that but you don't report the hardware you are using. Your sig tells us it could be on a system that the majority of us can't afford... By that i mean a rig with 3 nvidia 280's. Pretty sure any game will run quite nicely with a tri-sli 280 setup.
I read that link on the 20 steps to install the game. Hilariously written(if you haven't checked it out yet do so). Boy am i glad i didn't buy this. I was contemplating buying it but now i'm gonna hold off until the issues subside. I wouldn't be shocked to find the crashing issues are a result of Securom.
