    core temps and speedfan also can show how hot it is.

    on my old rosewill Z5 ultra I was getting 58C on AOD stability test

    my sunbeam CCF 45C in AOD stability test.

    what kind of cooler do you have?
    i`m getting smf like 39-40 idle @ 3ghz, 1.34V
    and in load less than 54-55
    that`s with a true and a enermax fan (almost max-ed out, yeah i know it`s loud, but i do turn it down at night ) )

    Hi I noted you are using Zalman 9700 cooler, to answer the post above.

    I have a 9950BE @ 3.1Ghz on an ASUS M3A32-MVP (SB600) using custom water cooling (which is a work in progress), and with C'n'Q enabled, my temps are:

    Idle = 33C
    Load = 50C

    Room ambient = 25C

    EDIT: Just tried with C'n'Q disabled and idle temps are now:

    CPU IHS = 38C
    Cores = 41C

    Full Load temps are same as above, i.e. 50C using AOD Stability test all tests.

    This is with CPU Tweak enabled, which increases the CPU Cache workload, and gives higher temps.

    Many people have noted lower temps (with up to a 10C drop) with CPU Tweak disabled, which can then allow higher overall overclock of the cores due to the lower temps being produced.

    I've not had a chance yet to compare benchmark result differences between gains made from having:

    a) CPU Tweak enabled (Improved Cache performance at lower core clock speed)

    against

    b) CPU Tweak disabled, but yielding higher CPU Clock speed.

    In other words whether the cache improvements from enabling CPU Tweak gives better/same/worst results than the increased Clock speed of the Cores that would be possible with CPU Tweak disabled as a result of the lower temps.

    It might be interesting if we had a thread on this, with benchmarks done at varying clock speeds, with CPU Tweak enabled and disabled, and reporting temp differences as well......

    As I am still stuck with an SB600 mobo for at least another week (my supplier having let me down by failing to fill my order for an M3A79-T six weeks ago..!!!), the max OC I can get on SB600 is 3.1Ghz regardless of whether or not I have CPU Tweak enabled or disabled, but maybe folks who already have SB750 mobos, could give some feedback on this idea....?????????

    Any takers...?????

    With my SB750 ASUS, I decided to stay with 3.2Ghz (1.375v) even though higher clocks are possible. For example, my external (non-mobo) temp sensor on mosfets was spiking to 55C on high overclocks and I was getting BSODs that were odd. I concluded that even though my cpu temp under water was 44-46C under very heavy load, that other chips on my mobo were too hot.

    Regarding cpu tweak, I found about a 9-10c difference on idle and 4-5C on heavy load. I leave it off and see no difference or slight increase on benchmarks. I don't like heat for little gain.

    Bummer about your retailer. I think you posted earlier that the guy was giving you odd vibes about ship dates?

    my temps on water with C & Q disabled and CPU Tweak disabled are about 27ºc idle and about 38-40ºc load.

    With the factory cooler I was getting about 41ºc idle and 57ºc load. This is at 1.425v 3.2 Ghz

    Well I see you got a cosmos 1000, those cases have very good air flow, so thats not your problem.

    What about your thermal paste, how did you apply it on the CPU?

    Thanks for the comparison info guys, and yes I had been getting odd vibes from the retailer, it all sounded a bit dodgy, I finally (this week) got a refund of my money, although they sent me a cheque rather than refund the credit card I paid with, so I'm waiting for it to clear now. Hoping to order the mobo from another company early next week, after the cheque has cleared.

    Hmm your Load temps seem to be really high, which is odd as your idle temp seems fine. You've got a very high idle/load delta there.

    Sounds like it could be a poorly mounted HSF, adequate at idle, but not getting a good enopugh contact to efficiently remove enough heat under higher load temps. Try re-mounting the HSF.

    I've got a slightly similar problem with a 9850BE on the M2N32-SLI mobo, using a Arctic Cooling Freezer Extreme HSF. It was really difficult to install as the HSF wasn't quite clearing the chipset heatsink on the NB. So its not getting a really good contact, so my temps are higher than I expected to see.

    Still safe enough under low load, and I'm only using it as a HTPC at the moment so its not being put under any heavy loads, and I'm going to swap the mobo out once I get a M3A79-T, so that the M3A32-MVP will replace the M2N32-SLI, so the AC Freezer Extreme should fit better and make better contact to work with the 9850BE then.

    OT: As I'm typing this now, can anyone with the M3A79-T mobo tell me if the whole SATA OPtical Drive and SATA RAID problems have been fixed with SB750.

    I know that when I installed on SB600, the only way I could get things to work was to swap my SATA Optical Drive with an IDE Optical Drive, no matter what I did I could not get Vista installed with a SATA Optical Drive when using SATA HDD's in RAID.

    Don't take offense but some here have forgot to remove the clear cellophane that protects the HS for shipping. Are you sure you removed it?

    Otherwise, my guess is you need to re-do your thermal paste application. The two line method works best for quads, rather than the dollop, but everyone has their own tried and true method. HERE is a good review of different application approaches and their coverage.

    I agree with xrogerx's problem been a badly postioned heatsink. Or the thermal paste was not applied correct.
