AMD did mention IPC improvements many times(not the numbers of course, but they did mention it).So i guess prefetch could be on the improvements list.
Thats exactally my point, even if Deneb is the same IPC as Yorkies if they can clock higher than a similarly priced Nelhalem it will be a winner in my book
If I had to guess I would expect close to or over 4ghz which will pose a very serious threat to i7 especially if the whole package is a good $300 less than the intel equivalent

well they for sure were able to launch it sooner if they wouldn't prefer to kick harpertown but firstfor sure harpertown will still provide the highest clock on quad, but that's not the real volume.
perhaps, will be depending on the use of HT or not, i am sure we will ship a few thousand of those with HT disabled.but just sell them because of the cool intel brand name
but nehalem 2s volume launch is only arch-April, so that's still a long time to go.
Seems kinda stupid to have chips 20% faster per clock and just have them at 2.8 and 3Ghz with the amount of sales Intel is doing. I love AMD but they should have just ramped them up to 3.5 and 4Ghz to stay competitive.

looks like AMD is pulling an Nvidia with there numbering scheme
im sure people will be confused....a 9950 seems like it would be better than 20550?

Check the prices for 2.8 C2D and A64 systems and think if it's priced for average user![]()
84$ for 2.5ghz

I said systems
As far as I'm concerned, if deneb can roughly match penryn it's a success.
I don't see much hope of deneb competing with i7 in raw power. It's just not going to happen imo.
If they can get yorkie type CPU's out at a good price that OC well... Then at least I would find that somewhat appealing.
In any case, be interesting to see how all of this plays out. It seems that we're finally getting somewhat close to deneb/shanghai.
Agreed. Most people aren't going to run out and grab a $400 board, DDR3, and a $400 chip like the new Intel rigs. Especially when a lot of mid to high end users already have Quality DDR2 they can just pop in a new rig. Or even if you have a SB750 mobo + ram all you have to do is pop in a new deneb and bam! upgrade potential.
To the one fellow yeah most users may only use 2.5Ghz whatever. Those same users prolly won't even upgrade anytime soon. Not to mention even if they did they'd prolly just opt for something along the lines and price range of a X2. I'm guessing you weren't around when the FX chips were out. They were daaamn expensive but people still bought them.
AMD is making 65nm chips, efficient cheap chips, Great server chips, the 9600-9950 are good and as mainstream and high end as they have right now. Not super amazing compared to what Intel has. If you haven't noticed AMDs market share has shrunk, well having a niche in any market isnt a bad thing.
If AMD introduced a 4Ghz 45nm Quad I don't see why that would be a bad move. Considering the same people who are buying 9950s are trying to push their chips as high as they can and can only hit around 3.6 at most. Well There you go, a 9950 that competes with and generally loses to a Q6600 or a Deneb that competes with a Q9450. I think I know as a consumer which is the logical choice. A Q6600 is a good chip but far from Intels high end 45nm chips so AMD is really lacking and needs something big. They are making awesome video cards and the people paying top dollar for them are more often than not running them on Intel rigs.
So again 2.5Ghz is a nice number but AMD even said I think the difference is around 10-13% of Brisbane. So that is still a bit under Intel. You can't tell me there isn't a demand for high clocking AMD chips otherwise If there was only a need for 2.5Ghz or not People would still be picking up 5000 series chips instead of 9850s and such. Also if you haven't noticed Quad core sales have done pretty well in the past year too.

I for one have never liked Overclocking that much, yes yes I know, WTH?!
But it's my personal preference, if AMD came out with a 3+Ghz product that performs aswell of better than my current e6850 I'll happily upgrade.
Glow i was replying to yr original comment on 3.5GHz stuff. i guess you totaly missed the point. And dont worry I'm fully aware of the market cos i work in the industry
What is a lie? The cake?
If deneb benches come in and show similar results I will be more than happy about it and call that a success to. This place is for people that like fast hardware, is it not? So why are some getting so pissy that faster hardware has been launched? Does it not look like i7 is a success
Surely can't wait![]()
