However, last night I tried to move them up, down, sideways and for some reason the stable settings that worked at 1800 WILL NOT work for anything else. Go back to 1800 and solid as a rock. I even tried my 2x2 Diablo & 2x1 Cellshock settings (which are identical and stable) to no avail. I think I ended up corrupting window @ 3 in the morning and quit in disgust!! No time for it tonight as I have to overclock the wife or things could get miserable around here Will be back in a couple days with hopefully some 4x1 results. And yes, they are the Cellshock Black
damn!! sounds like your doing something wrong or your sticks just simply suck.. i can bench with mine at 6-6-6-18 at 1750 mhz (2.25v)..
and with 7-7-7-18 over 2000 mhz (if i remember right those settings start to become unstable at 2060mhz at those latencys)

Is that 2x1 or 4x1? 2x1 they are great, just having a hard time with the 4x1. If you are in a 4x1 configuration, would you mind passing on your settings?

    Thanx in advance

The funny thing is when i have both ATI cards in and try to install drivers it always disables the second card saying driver not compatible with your hardware..Running Vista 64bit...tried 8.9 and 8.10

Any help would be awesome because I will probably give up soon sale everything and go back to Nvidia..if i cant fix this in the next couple of days

I was getting random blue screens and my CPU dropped two cores at random, went into windows error log and it turned out to be fatal bus or interconnect error. Board is back at ASUS RMA right now.

One thing i noticed, atleast on my Cellshock blacks, make SURE TRFC are not AUTO, couse auto makes to high trfc, auto is on premium board like 86, and i get failure in lots of stuff, prime blend etc. use 60 if you got 1800mhz, 60 or 72 works good, also, they are sensetive against voltage, to much voltage may be a failure too, just one notch could make diffrence between stable and unstable.

try also cpu and nb skew, i was 4 min blend fail but over 3h small ffts, and then i tried a tip of putting cpu skew 400 and nb skew 200, nest i booted up again, put prime blend, and it went 1hr no problems, stopped it then couse i was just testing, and it worked they are really sweet mems actually can take whatever you do with em (almost) and i dont have any degradation efter almost 1 year now, and allways had them 2.0+v. but not 2.2 just for bench, but they are working as they did in the beginning.

    cheers!

mine are 2x1.. generally speaking 4x1 dont seem to overclock like the 2x1.there is no special setting just up your volts, also the ram strap might play some role in getting the max out from those sticks (im still getting to know this board)

btw the fsb changing from the fly works surprisingly well when i tested it yesterday while benching 3dmark

Thanks for the help Zeus - she is up and running now!

I went through your list and threw in a few other things along the way... I got down to the next to the last bullet in my clip of tricks before the dreaded RMA. I reseated the E8600 (then was going to try my QX6850) - and that did it. So I put it all back together again and am typing this on it now!

Have flashed both bios to 0601 and will start playing as soon as I'm done updating drivers, formatting HDD, etc.

Thanks again - more to come!

I really wonder whether they tested this board before release!!

    - I have RAID Problems at set-up but I found what my problem was. I raided 0 three Samsung F1s and I made to partitions one 150GB and one huge 2.8GB (the rest). Unless I delete the second big partition windows will not recognize my RAID array at during setup.

    - I really trying to set it up with OCZ PC3 Platinum 12800 - (AVOID THIS RAM with this board).

-For a strange reason the board fails to turn on many times and I have to turn off my PSU (Thermaltake 1200Watt) on and off many times. Grrrrrrrrrrrr this is ridiculous.

I finally corrupted my Vista installation and I can't even repair unless I delete the second partition. So I am using a forth TB disk to install Vista there again, move the data from the big partition (the 2.8GB) that causes recognition failure at set up then boot from cd and repair the original installation. After that I will disconnect my RAID disks and experiment with the single disk installation after I make an image from it.

    OPTICAL output

Please check the back of the FX and let me know if it's giving off a red optical light. Mine doesn't - thanks ( may be related to auto off function if you plug in Front HD plug in )

When i press down the cover on the optical output with a toothpick on mine, there is a ray of red light coming out.

    Hope this helps.

I ran into simular issues & found that putting the 4+4 pin connector on the MOBO instead of the 8 pin solved my issues.

This was due to the fact that the 8 pin is on a shared rail, while the 4+4 is solely on rail 2.

    Hope that helps.

    2x1 v. 4x1 RAM

    Hi All,

Preliminary results are in - it is easy to overclock this setup!

I was able to quickly take out the available overhead in everything, and will briefly share results - although I'm not going to bother with screenies, because it's all been done before here, and by more qualified people than me.

However, I will share my experience on the 2x1 vs. 4x1 Gb RAM issue though, because that might help someone.

With 2x1 without too much trouble I was up to 500 x 9 and 2000 MHz (400 Strap) on the Corsairs, granted with timings a little loose at 8-8-8-20 1T, 2.2V. Could not push the FSB or multiplier much more without really ramping up the volts/heat (I'm only on air, so I think 510 was actually where I maxed out today).

Since Far Cry 2 arrived today - I was eager to have the "low hanging fruit" and get on with some informal stress testing! When I added the second 2x1 it really made a difference. Could not boot into windows without dropping down to 450 x 10 (kept the 400 strap for 1800 MHz on the RAM) although at those settings I was able to tighten up the timings a little bit to 7-7-7-20 1T. This is actually just the advertised performance though.

Certainly there is more optimisation that could be done with both settings - especially the 4x1 setup. I really haven't gotten into that yet, but preliminary investigations indicate that there is a big difference in 2x1 and 4x1.

Maybe everyone knew that already! In any case - I'm off to Africa! Be back later with more questions.

I do believe you mean a 2.8TB partition. Someone correct me if I am wrong on this, but IF you are using Vista32 there is a 2TB limit to what it can address, which you are exceeding.

    Hi All,

Just back form hols - good to see that a lot of progress has been made on the detailed bios settings and that people are getting some decent results.

Finally got my W/C hooked up and just running a 24 hr leak test so hope to get some results this weekend. Here's how it's shaping up so far ...

This is my first experience of W/C and after an initial test run using the wife's ionised water for the iron flooded the case things look more promising. Just getting an occasional tick which I guess is trapped air moving about. Cr@p just as I typed this the hose just blew off the pump outlet - that'll be two hose clips there then. Good job Feser One is water based (?) its came off the beige carpet ok just hope it dries without a green tint and the wife is working late.

Sorry for rambling, the real point to my post is to ask what I can expect from my 9770 on water ? - had 4.1Ghz 24/7 from it on air.

    Thanks.

I am using Vista Ultimate 64bit and I actually manage an installation on this RAID set up by first creating a small 150GB partition, then installing the OS, adding drivers and finally creating a 2.64TB volume for the rest of the space and using GPT instead of MBR. I then corrupted this installation and decided to install on a single 1tB disk first (a Hitachi) and after I stabilize the board I will move to RAID again. This installation will hang on booting (BSOD) if I enable RAID and make ANY volume with my 3TB F1s on it.

Hey thanks for the TIP I changed over and will be testing now.

I also got some Cellshock RAM to play with (that I can return) but I only managed to find (on the retail store) the 1600 Black ones and will be testing tonight. They already seem better than my PC3 Platinum PC12800 OCZs that are giving me hell.

Right now I am small FFT stable with my q9550 @ 4.080Mhz 480 FSB and 1600MHZ RAM. I will keep it for about an hour and start tweaking the RAM for BLEND stability.

I replaced the OCZ 2x2GB Platinum PC12800 modules with 4x1GB Cellshock 1600. Will report back if I manage to stabilize those.

And a last question, is Real Temp accurate since at 1.42Vcore I am getting max 62C on my CPU (on water dedicated loop with a 360 TFC and Apogee GTX)?

I find it to be very accurate & within 1 degree of Rampage's LCD readout.

You must take the time to calibrate it, but once done it is the best software out there (IMO).

Does anyone know a e-tailer that will ship Diablos (DIABLO3-2000-4GB-KIT) to the USA?

Yes that did the trick and I have no more issues with power on/off.

I have also managed to get the board stable with my Q9550 @ 4080Ghz 1600 Mhz Ram 1T 7-7-7-18 with 4x1 Cellshocks 1600. I am now testing 490FSB with RAM @ 1668 and same latencies and I think I am close to stability. Will report back.

As soon as i get it stable at 490FSB I am stopping and will try set up the 3x1TB RAID 0 array again.

    *EDIT*

LOL I managed to install Windows on 3X1TB Samsung F1s but one of them crapped out. The hell with RAID 0 unless I get a good controller the Intel one is not the way to go.

Do you think I am pushing it with 3 x TB Disks? (Actually 4x1TB I have a hitachi hooked as well).
