One problem though. I can run the ram 2 x 1 but 4 x 1 is not stable. Have tried skews, command rates, etc but just can't get it to mesh. Both kits of memory are stable by themselves at numerous levels. So if anybody has figured out 4 x 1 could you please pass on your findings. Here is some playing around last night with the ram, sure was fun!!
    I'm stabily running my 4x1GB Cellshocks at 1800 7-6-5-18-60, 1T. 0403 BIOS.

This board shows some strange behavior when using 4 dimms, as with the above settings I need 1.97V to be 100% stable. As I go higher, stability is fine, until I go over 2.01, BSODs occor randomly during windows startup and while in windows. Continually raising the VDimm stability slowly returns after 2.06V. pretty strange behavior. I've tried using 0403 and 0601 but both has the same symptome. So try the VDimm one at the time, and don't assume stability increases linearly with increasing voltages when using 4 DIMMs.

    My 8600 settings:
    FSB 450
    CPU skew 200
    NB skew Normal
    Strap 266
    DRAM Freq 1803
    CR 1N
    DRAM Timing
    7-6-5-18 tREF 60
Twister Moderate (somehow it gives better perf then all other options.)
    Booster Manual PL 6
    LLC Disabled
    PLL 1.511
    FSBT 1.100
    CPU GTL ALL -35
    NB GTL Auto
    VMCH 1.53
    VDimm 1.974
    SB 1.5

    Thanks for the advice

    @Zues Thanks Dude, much appreciated!!

@Eternal Fantasy And a big thanks to you as well EF...will try your settings tonight and see if I can get it stable. My +250 ps skew settings and +12.5 NB Vref and Ch A & B Vref +50 worked straight across from the 2X2 Diablo for the 2X1 Cell shock but 4X1 was not stable. Tried a bit but went back to 2X1 because I could do just about anything with them. Took them all the way up to 2211 mhz!! An interesting side note. Anyone else feel the original Crysis is more CPU bound than GPU? With the E8600 @ 5 Ghz + I can play Very High on everything @ 1920 X 1200. 50 - 75 FPS. Looks Ongelooflijk!!! (unbelievable) With my main QX9650 @ 4 Ghz it struggles on high. Will give 2560 X 1600 a go tonight as well. Yup, this board has some funny quirks but it is definetly the most fun I've ever had with a board. Very forgiving with bad OC attempts. Thanks again for the settings!!

    Thanks E F !!!!!!!

@ Eternal Fantasy... Dude!! I never had any luck with GTL settings and left them all at Auto but I really gave your settings you posted an honest try and it would either BSOD me or crash shortly after in Windows OR fail Memtest within 20 percent, usually within 5 percent tested. However, with the settings below I am SAF!!!!! (stable as f..k!!) apologies for the profanity but I'm stoked!!

    Bios 601
    My 8600 settings:
    FSB 450 X 10
    CPU skew -100
    NB skew Normal
    Strap 266
    DRAM Freq 1803
    CR 1N
    DRAM Timing
7-6-5-18 tREF 72 Will try 60 but loosened intentionally
    Twister Moderate
    Booster Manual PL 6
    LLC Disabled
    PLL 1.6 (High for testing)
    FSBT 1.350 (High for testing)
    CPU GTL ALL -25
    NB GTL Auto
VMCH 1.60 ( high for testing, NB temp 31 c with
2 instances of Memtest running, typing at you right now)
    VDimm 2.000
    SB 1.55
    NB Vref +12.5
    Ch A Vref +50
    Ch B Vref +50

This board continues to amaze me at all the variations that are possible as my settings that worked always seemed different than everybody elses. I guess they are still weird but will now take what I have a see how far I can go!! Thanks again for putting me on a completely different path!!

Same here. I just received my order of all EK blocks for the board and CPU.

The 790i block from BP is supposedly shipping, but the RE block is still not out yet.

Hmmmm. sounds like a stability issue with some of your settings. Could you post your settings? You might need a few more volts here or there, etc.

Great to see stabibility at last. GTL Ref settings are not an exact science... so great that you have found a stable setting for your motherboard

    Hi All,

Thanks for this thread - it is absolutely jam packed with great info for setting up a Rampage Extreme. I've decided to go ahead and build an RE system for myself - and donate my 680i SLI setup to the family. At the end of the day it's got to be 24/7 stable for my own use, but I might push it a little on the way there!

Using the info from this thread I've gone for an air cooled setup as described below. The last of the parts - except for the screen, show up today sometime, so I'll post some progress reports, etc. (Probably with a few questions!) as I go.

I'll put the full spec in my signature eventually, and can post batch numbers, etc., but for the moment what I've got is...

    Asus Rampage Extreme
    E8600 (retail)
4x1 Gb Corsair DDR3 TWIN3X2048-1800C7DF (think this should be Micron D9GTR)
Sapphire Radeon 4870X2 2 Gb... just the one
    Corsair HX 1000W PSU
    Coolermaster RC-1000 Case
2 Samsung Spinpoint F1 750 Gb (not going for RAID at the moment tho - had a bad experience with that before)
    Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit
    Samsung 226CW 2ms VDU

Various bits of air cooling hardware... Thermalright TRUE Black 120 for the CPU (on special offer), Noctua NC-U6 for the northbridge, Enzotech MST-81's with EK backplates for the CPU mosfets (ala Johnny Bravo), various other Enzotech heatsinks for other northbridge mosfets, Artic Silver 5, Akasa double sided thermal "sticky back tape" etc, to stick it all together.

So it's off to the Blue Peter workshop now to cut a hole in the backplate of my TRUE 120 while I wait for the delivery guy. Wish me luck!
    Asus Rampage Extreme (0601)
    E8600 @ 450 x 10 GHz
    4x1 Gb DDR3 Corsair TWIN3X2048-1800C7D (D9GTR)
    ATI Radeon 4870X2

    Question

There are quite abit of differences between related vcore settings for the Q9650.

What's the difference between CPU voltage and CPU PLL Voltage. I took the advice of Greg from mushkin and set the CPU voltage at 1.15 and PLL at 1.5116.

Well, it's all together. Sort of.

Hooked everything up turned it on... Can't get past CPU INIT loop where it starts, runs for about 3 seconds, shuts down and does it all over again. No bios no nothing. The HDD starts spinning, the graphics card flashes, fans spin. Power to everything it seems, but no boot.

Am only running 1x 1 Gb stick of memory - tried two different ones in two different slots, moved graphics card to the other PCI slot, checked all wires, have tried the BIOS_FLASHBACK jumper on all three settings, tried pushing and pushing and holding the CLR CMOS button on the back. No joy. Will take out the CMOS battery and let it sit overnight I guess.

Not sure what else to try. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm looking around online for suggestions... I must've done something wrong here. What could it be??

Just unhook everything unneeded and try to boot with just the CPU in place and 1 stick of RAM -- no videocard.

Make sure the 8pin power connector is in place and of course the 24pin ATX connector.

Hook up a the speaker, it should give a serie of beeps that should mean no vga detected.

If it doesn't, get the board out of the case, triple check nothing is shorting and try the same thing with the board out of the case.

If it still refuses to post, try a different cpu.

If all above fails, i'm afraid your board is brick.

@Mike Well, at 1800 with the timings posted a few back yup, I'm as stable as can be. However, last night I tried to move them up, down, sideways and for some reason the stable settings that worked at 1800 WILL NOT work for anything else. Go back to 1800 and solid as a rock. I even tried my 2x2 Diablo & 2x1 Cellshock settings (which are identical and stable) to no avail. I think I ended up corrupting window @ 3 in the morning and quit in disgust!! No time for it tonight as I have to overclock the wife or things could get miserable around here Will be back in a couple days with hopefully some 4x1 results. And yes, they are the Cellshock Black

They look sweet mate... very interesting results you have there. 1800mhz with 4gb is much better than I can get my G-skill 2x2gb Pi stable at... which is y im considering them. I'll be keeping an eye out for your results!

    Guys,

    A system with:

    - Q9550 Rev. E0
    - G.Skill 2x 2GB 1333MHz CL7 (model: 4GBPI)

    - Watercooled (by CPU block D-Tek Fusion rev1 + mount kit pro, 2x Swiftech Black Ice GT 120mm, Pump MCP 655, MicroRes)

Over which could get stable, hypothetically?

Well I have been trying all night (and yesterday) to get this thing stable with my Q9550 and OCZ PC3 12800 to no avail.

I actually manage to run my CPU at 490FSB 4.180GHZ and memory 1600MHZ stock timings and it will run Prime Small FFTs for 2 hours (did not test further) but when I try BLEND it fails but the PC does not freeze.

I came to the conclusion that my RAM is having serious issues with this motherboard. The weird thing is that if I set my CPU at 400FSB the RAM tests fine at 1600MHZ in Prime.

This is the only setting I managed to make the RAM test without errors by hand.

Should I get rid of the OCZ or the motherboard?

BTW I am all on water.

I think I mentioned this in an earlier post. I had the same findings as you. The only way to get blend stable for me was to bump vcore a tad. Odd I know.

    Edit: Where's that new bios?
