In Bios do you have Sata Controller in RAID mode? If yes, then this maybe a reason for the non-reading temp and the 'scsi' instead of 'sata'....

As for the performance : yes, the nvidia can be the reason...I gained in average read rate & access time in an NV430 only by using Fernando's WHQL Pack drivers ...You can try them...
