Yeah, found another one; whenever anything else other than the time mode is selected, the time read out is incorrect when switching back to the time mode, it's behind the time you've had it in another mode/menu. lol

The NBMAX copper base rests against a copper plate that, in turn, makes contact with two copper pipes that only make indirect contact with the chip surface through a copper plate beneath the pipes. The only advantage the NBMAX might provide would be any increased volume of water it may (or may not) hold (it appears larger than the stock NB wblock) and a more finely machined base plate, providing better contact. IMHO, those differences don't offset the horribly inefficient HPA design. You can replace TIM and add as many washers as you like: it's still 'lipstick on a pig.'

To stay within budget, how about removing the HPA and cooling FETS, SB and VR with conventional heatsinks by Swifty or EnzoTech, then using an EK-NB S-Max for the NB as one alternative?

having just slapped an MCW30 directly on the X48 IHS and having tested NB temps thoroughly out of the box and post nylon washer mod...the HPA is the biggest draw back by far and aside from the benefit of not having adapters out the ace for the Fusion block, i wouldn't expect a degree of difference between it and the NBMAX in a capable loop. the 1/2" barbs though are worth the price of admission for the NBMAX if running a 1/2" loop.

my suggestion to anyone wanting to really lower NB temps and running a water loop, go direct contact with an MCW30 or the EK blocks mentioned, slap some MC14s or Enzotech heat sinks on the CPU/NB PWM and enjoy sub 40C temps regardless of voltage
That's what I've been saying almost 3 months ago!! but never really caught on... and that washer mod kinda overshadowed and pushed aside the problem...

    And this more recent post on the issue;

Oh and it's actually 3 copper pipes between the NB and the fusion block.

Thanks for the good advice EF, 3oh6 and Mezzro - just ordered T/R HR-09S & HR-09, Enzotech BCC9, MOS-C1 & CNB-S1L, with Swiftech MC14 to replace the heatpipe assembly. Then Swiftech Apogee GTZ and EK-NB S-MAX blocks with all the tubing, connectors and spiral wrap I am ever likely to need. Held off from buying the pump, resevoir and rad as I may blow the budget wide open and change my case to a CM COSMOS RC-1000 V2 as it will house a triple rad with ease at the top of the case.

I'm sure I can hit 460x9 or higher on water ...........

    I need some help here.

Having random BSOD and lockup issues and can't figure out what it is yet.

It will happen while gaming, but also when idle. It even happened while running Memtest86+ (which leads me to believe it's not a Windows issue)

When it happens while I'm in Windows, I get some horrible static and ticking coming out of my speakers (headphones). It also happened during a run of Orthos Blend the other night, which ended up waking me up in the middle of the damn night

This is a fresh install of the OS with all the drivers installed and up-to-date.

    Here are my settings

Just got a new kit of Flex II's in today, so far only did some short testing, but these also seem fine (DDR2000, 8-8-8-25-Auto-T1 - VDimm 1.9V BIOS = 1.9050V Everest, VTT Dimm Auto = 0.9520V Everest, NB 1.52 = 1.4950V Everest):

    my other Flexes -

I did have a kit of Flexes before though which did approx DDR1880 max memtest86+ error free, but these degraded fast to DDR1630-something before the lcd-poster showed 'DET RAM' & 'LOCKED'. So those died.

I don't have access to the back of my board but I am sure one of these two sizes should work. The #4 washers are the smaller of the two.
Does anyone know where i can get these online in the UK? And what thickness are the washers?

If you had a look at the image location of the Crossbow backplate picture, you will find they are from Scan.co.uk

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=824662

I think they are the only ones selling those in the UK... so you'll have to wait for new stock. Alternatively you can buy an Asus HSF, since they come with a backplate that accommodates the back ML Cap.

Thanks I couldn't see the wood for the trees, lol
I must have missed it in my emails.

Do ya know what thickness the washers are? As they look thicker than standard nylon washer. and if screwfix sells them? I know it says "flat washer" on that packet but the ones i've seen installed look thicker, though i guess it could be an optical illusion

I would say 1mm thick.. but anything in that range should be effective to increase the mount pressure I think.

Well, still no love for my RAM at 1600. At 1333 and everything stock, no freezeups so far.

I'm beginning to suspect that I don't have the RAM set up properly. DDR3 is a whole new ball game in some respects, it seems.

Just running the same but at CR1. I noticed that when I quit prime CPUZ was reporting a 455FSB which settled back down to 450FSB after about 30 seconds.

    Hi Ric,

Thanks, in the image you will see that I halted the Prime95->torture test->blend after 2hrs 7mins as I had to go out for the rest of the day. From experience once past 2hrs then it is a good sign - also consider that in early days with this board that i could not prime at 420 for more than 2 minutes !!!!. What memory are you using ?, I am on my third set and find that the Dominators I have suit this board. The GTL settings were also a major factor in getting this result. Now I am moving to water and looking for 460+

Thanks for the info, I have just moved onto changing the GTL settings and it does Prime at 425 now, but wont do 430.

I asked about Prime cos the screen shot you have just doesn't look the same as mine. I have 4 threads saying FFT length is 1024, so guessed you must be either using a different version of Prime or a different test to the Blend test.

I am using 2 x 1GB Cellshock blue 1866 at 8-8-8-16 2T. I havn't tried tightening the timings yet. I do have a set of 2x2GB 1800 Doms but haven't tried these either yet. I thought it would be easier with 2GB than 4 to start with.

Also the NB runs at ~52C and am off out to find some washers, its all on water other than that.

    Cheers

I also had random BSOD and a couple of RSOD using Vista 64. I did update all drivers for all hardware and it still did it. Moved ram in to other slot also the video card and it still would happen. I was so pissed so I tried to load Vista 32 and not a single BSOD. I am researching this to firgure out why this is happened so untill then Ill run Vista 32.

Well, I think it's got something to do with my OC. Last night I had everything running at stock and all on AUTO (*pukes*) and had no crashes.

I'm going to try to bump the FSB but keep the RAM at 1333 instead of the rated 1600 and see what happens to see if it's the CPU or the RAM that's causing the issues. Seeing as how Memtest86+ froze, I'm thinking it might be the RAM, even though it gave me no errors. It might not be playing nicely with the board.

i wouldn't say that 2.05 vdimm is much. it's quite cold even with 2.1. i haven't maxed it out at 1.95v. it might be stable @ 1800 7-6-5-18 with that voltage.

Hi Rich, glad to help - your memory should be well up to the job and your approaching it the right way with 2x1Gb sticks first. Are you using the white slots ?. Will be interesting to hear how your Doms do as I may get the 1800C8 2x2Gb if they run well on this board. My version of Prime95 is 24.14.

Should get my new case and W/C kit tomorrow so may be a busy weekend
