    Got my board up and running today. However, there is one annoyance; my 500GB WD HDD in port 5 comes up as an external HDD. I have all the 6 Intel ports occupied with HDD's, but it only happens to the drive in port 5. Any idea?

    Is the built-in bios flash on this board ok, or is it still something you should avoid?

    Hi guys, I finally got my P5Q Deluxe with an E8400. Got a pair of 2x 2GB G.Skill DDR2-1000 as well.
    Looking through this thread it seems like this board overclocks like nothing, however I found that I can't get past 420FSB without Orthos dieing within 5 minutes.

    I've tried changing a LOT of things including timings, memory straps, transaction booster etc but it didn't help at all.

    Any insight would be really helpful!

    Here are my current settings (Not stable):
    Tried the newest bios 1306 and it didn't help.

    Can't help you with the HDD issue, but I can say the EZ flash tool in the bios works without an issue for me and everyone else.

    Woah you'd better lower that vFSB back down to 1.12v for starters that's very high. Don't raise vFSB first, it wont help much if at all. Increase the vcore to perhaps 1.30v (bios) and retry. Keep ram at 1:1 divider until you stabilize the cpu. Set Transaction booster to manual and set PL = 10. Set vNB to 1.24v. Have you ever overclocked before?

    Just to add to this, try 2.0 to 2.02v for the ram voltage as Most of these boards overvolt the ram a bit.

    Not sure if the P5Q-D officially supports any TG ram at all, but my TG 8500's ran fine in my board and they both use D9 GXX IC's so I don't see a reason why they wouldn't run.

    Yea I thought it was a bit high, yes I've overclocked before but the last board I had was a P5B and haven't really kept up with the reading. Having a P5Q everything is different again. Especially with new stuff like Transaction Booster etc I have no idea what it does

    Anyways I've started fresh with everything on default. I've disabled most advanced CPU features, and then I changed these:

    Multiplier = 6
    FSB = 430
    PCI-e = 100MHz
    VCore = 1.3v
    vNB = 1.24v
    vFSB = 1.12V
    Transaction Booster PL = 10
    vMem = 2.0V

    Windows boots but fails at about 8 minutes in Orthos

    ok what is the ram speed set too? Set it to the lowest selectable speed for now (~860)

    If the ram was at ~860, manual timings set to 5-5-5-15, try upping the vcore (see below). If the ram was at stock (auto) timings, choose manual and select 5-5-5-15-6-45-10-6 for the first set of timings. Leave the rest of the timings on auto for now. Re-try it.

    If you need to up the vcore, set vcore to 1.35v and re-try that, with the ram settings I gave you above. If you are on stock cooling watch your cpu temps.

    Im having some serious problems with ram stability. I have balistix 2x1GB, that can do 1200 at 5-5-5-15 and 2.2V stable on Maximus. On P5Q Deluxe and 1306 BIOS they are unstable at 1000 5-5-5-15 and 2.3V. I have tryed setting all timings, AUTO, almost everything,...

    Leeghoofd provided me with those settings (than you) and its complitly unstable.

    How much Vcore do you use ? rams actively cooled ? tried a lower multi ? Try 803 bios or even 1402...
    Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

    Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

    Can anyone try the 5th SATA port and see if that HDD becomes "external", too? This is really puzzling me!

    1.4V for CPU, rams have 2.2 and are actively cooled. Tried with many multiplayers, tried 1300 and 1400 BIOS series and its the same.

    Now im at the stock speeds (CPU, FSB) and its stable at 800 4-4-4-8, and 1200 at 5-5-5-15.
    If I go past 410-415FSB it becomes unstable and useless for 24/7 (and I need at least 460 stable for 24/7)... Probably going to maximus again for 24/7

    Where do you need more then 2ghz quad? And you must admit: 4ghz on q6600 sounds great

    You may need more vNB, try ~1.34v vNB (maybe more) and try it then.

    Hi ppl...

    Need some advices about a P5Q Deluxe... I have this board, a Q9450 cpu, 4x1GB DDR2 Teamgroup Elite PC5300 (667MHz), a XFX 9500GT, 1 x WD 320GB Sata II and two optical drives!

    I bought it and it came with the 1206 bios... I tested it a little, but then I flashed the bios to the 1306 version!

    Now, the problem is that sometimes when I'm changing bios settings it crashes completely! Can't move around settings in bios anymore and have to press reset button! The most frequent problem is a windows lockup even at default speeds (cpu and ram)!

    My first step was a clear cmos and now I'm going to run memtest86+! After that, and if all is ok with the 4 ram sticks I'm going to try to downgrade bios!

    Any other suggestions on what to do?

    As said above, try clearing cmos and resetting stock settings. Set Transaction booster to manual and set PL = 10. Set 1.3v vcore, 1.26v vNB, 1.12 vFSB, 2.0v vDimm. Set ram to lowest speed choice and you should be stable, but test its stable before flashing. You need to be stable to flash the bios the last thing you want is for it to lock up half way through.

    Leeghoofd:
    Thank-you very much for your reply to my issues. After trying many combinations of settings, still unable to run any half-dividers or anything beyond 450 fsb, I gave some thought to your suggestion about my ram. Only other ram I had on hand was a cheap 1GB stick of Crucial Rendition PC-4300. So, I removed the Team sticks and popped it in the board.
    Success! The board now works with the 8.5 divider, and I can run it at 471x9 as well.
    And the board boots into these settings without hesitation, no more freezes or bsods.
    As this Rendition stick is pretty limited, I now have to decide what ram to buy to replace my Teams. Do you have any recommendations, Leeghoofd?
    Not sure either if I should stay with 2X1GB or go to 2x2GB.
    Thanks again for your help, you've saved me a lot of grief

    Any other suggestions on what to do?
    Many users on a german forum swear with bios 0803 for the 9450 CPU... for ya ram disable static read control and put TRFC to 55 range ( this will increase stability big time... also note that on most boards ram is overvolted by about 0.08 so be carefull to not overvolt the dimms...

    Pm Kryptik, he has the same rams as you and it might be some silly setting in the subtimingzs holding ya back...

    I wouldn't buy 2Gb anymore... 4Gb kits are pretty affordable and give good speeds... pretty happy here with my Gskills PC8000PQ and Mushkin redline PC8000 kits , I never push rams so they run max at 1081Mhz daily...

    Good luck
    Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

    Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

    Just started overclocking my board. With the same settings (450x8, ram at 1080MHz 5-5-5-12) I score around 500 points lower in 3Dmark 06 than I did with my Abit IP35 Pro. Any tips to improve performance? There's a whole lot of settings I haven't gotten my head around yet, so any suggestions are most welcome.
