Gosh -- you missed the point.

Google Radeon 1900XTX - and go to any review you want and check the brand of the CPU they used to review. The 1900XTX was launched and reviewed before Core 2 Duo was introduced. Back then, it was the A64 vs P4 .... we all know who wins that match up. Why would every reviewer under the sun want to use the fastest CPU of the time to do their review of a graphics card? This is the crux of the discussion. Did AMD pay them to do this? Doubtful, did Intel have the money to pay them not to do that? Most definitely. Then why did they all use AMD CPUs?

This conspiracy theory is not healthy to maintain. It just isn't true.

Trust me, the graphics division of ATI did not want them to use Phenom CPUs to do a comparitive review against nVidia, all it would have shown is that in most cases the 4870 runs neck and neck with 3 or 4 other cards, mostly nVidia. The 4870 X2 would have been a tie, not a win.
