how does this card work with a game without a profile?
Like a single 4870.
but there's a possibility to try a crossfire profile from other games by renaming the *.exe (for example to fear.exe). Or force the card uses AFR mode by checking Catalyst A.I to advanced, but that hardly works in any game i've tested.
any word on what games don't have a profile?
"ATI let us snap some more photos of the Radeon 4870 X2, this time w/ the side of the case off, but we still could not run any benchmarks on the card or take it out for photos. One of the ATI reps did let slip that they were running w/ the side of the case open today b/c the card was getting quite hot (but had not crashed). This is in a room with ambients about 68F too." and lots of pics here http://www.xcpus.com/GetDoc.aspx?doc=47&page=2

I believe this is not posted yet?
I also found a statement from AMD why CrossfireX can deliver mor then 2x performance.
As for super-linear performance, it's possible -- The actual amount of cache is increased as well as the number of functional units. That means that it's very possible for data to stay in cache longer in xfire, than in regular rendering on a single card. That will lead to performance higher than 2x."

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved
Remark : They call me Pro AsusSaaya yupp, I agree
I agree that it isn't very reassuring.
*cough*95 degree C load temps in an open test bed*cough*
I'm sure it runs "too hot" just like my 4870's ran "too hot." (they idled at 46/40C w/ the fan hack.)
That stock HS will be off so fast it won't matter anyway.
