I did and technically speaking it's working ok. However i got "You have 3 days to activate windows" crap and i'm suspecting BIOS because not even system restore restored my activation. I had to go to work before i could find out, but i'll investigate this when i get home in the evening. Till then i suggest you stay away from it unless you don't have problems reactivating Windows in case BIOS is the cause for it. Could be just random glitch though. We'll see...

Thanks for your settings BeastNotro. However I don't think I can get my Q6600 as high as yours (maybe because I have a P5Q-E?) Vista crashes at 9x400 or 8x450 with similar settings to yours except much higher volts. I seem to be benchmark stable at either 9x380 or 8x433, but Crysis craps out after ~20 mins of play. I know it's my OC'ing that's affecting the game because if I dial down to 9x333 and right all voltages at 0.02 above min then the game is rock solid stable -- but of course I suffer low FPS. How did you come up with some of your settings like GTL, SBridge, and PCIE voltage? Most ppl recommend auto.

The three GTL's settings are all Standard settings in the Bios and as for a Q6600 0.630 and 0.670 are the most common widely used GTL settings. As for Q9450 they are different and i forget what they are, but no matter as you have a Q6600 like i do.

CPU GTL Voltage Reference (0/2): 0.630
CPU GTL Voltage Reference (1/3): 0.670
    NB GTL Reference: 0.630

    --------------------------
The SB and PCIE voltages are the Minimum listed in Bios and again is common to use in the P5Q series motherboards, most of the time.

    --------------------------

How much voltage are you putting into your chip?
Also when in windows what is the Idle Voltage and Full load Voltage?
What Memory Modules do you have?
What Bios are you using for your PQ5-E?

K so is it better or worse then previous bios you were running?

(this is good that you got a lessor Vdroop --- nice ... bios 0803/1103 I got vdrop on 0.2500V in all set bios 1201 = 0.1000V)

Nice Pi by the way and good OC too.

I want more tests like stability test .. like Linpack and Orthos...

Also was it able to use all of your previous bios settings or did you have to fiddle around with it.

Basically i hate to have to flash and then fiddle around again and orthos and linpack .. etc... but with any knew bios i am sure it is a good thing to test 100% stability.

As for what Volst and such i can't say for sure, but ppl in this thread and forum and other threads in this forum have done so... maybe to a quick search through the forum for Q9450 Overclocking and see what you find.
It doesnt seem like anyone has hit that. What I am really looking for is MAX voltages on the major players (PLL/VTT/NB etc) is the max. I am looking to keep the chip for at least a year.

I was really looking for some help from Leeg.

EDIT: I flashed my bios to 1201, but havent tested it yet...though she booted right up to the same settings I had before, 3.8Ghz.

Well 475ish is I think already nice for a day to day FSB mate, my Qx can do 500FSb on this board but I would never run it at those speeds daily (1.6PLL and FSB 1.42 required) I rather settle for 400-45°ish FSB daily... it's not only the stress on the CPU but also the extra stress on the mobo that has to be taken into account... I have seen some suers here push their 9450 to 500FSB but I don't think they will run it daily at those speeds...

PLL I would set max 1.6, VTT max 1.38 and NB 1.4 too for daily ops and that's with good cooling on CPU AND mobo...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

    Thanks Leeg...!

To get my current settings I am at:

    vcore: 1.3625 bios
    PLL: 1.52
    VTT: 1.30
    NB: 1.26

I havent really tried dropping the vcore though...

Oh and for cooling on the NB etc, I have an Antec Twelve Hundred with all fans on low... NB temps show 45C idle at those settings, 50C on load (probe on the heatsink mind you b/c Everest doesnt show my NB temps like it did on my 780i).

I thought my system was stable with 1,45V on VCore but it turned out that IntelBurnTest (AgentGod) requires 1,47250V for actual rock solid stability. Ah well... lol

well I cant say this isnt ed up, if someone could shed some light on this id appreciate the input.

Put in a new 4gb kit of RAM today, G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PK PC2-8500C5, the thing is as you do I sarted overclocking it straight away, well heres how it goes, just started with a mere 20mhz OC and bumped it upto 1086mhz, everything set in the bios manually exept for the PL which was on auto, upon opening memset I saw the board was setting the PL to 10, started memtesting and was getting errors, tried adjusting voltages and still more errors, so I then went back to the bios and set PL manually to 8 (TIGHTER) and now its memtesting away happily , WHAT, WHY ? on a tighter PL ?

I was reading somewhere that much of the PC2-8500 memory no matter who makes it can run nice on 8 or 9 PL.

I have the G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PC2-8000C5 series and memset states 13 PL and i am Orthos Prime stable 11hrs 5min i shut her down and i am also Linpack Stable...

So should i try for the fun of it use a PL of 8 or 9???? ... Even though it is PC2 1000 and not PC2 8500 ... i am afraid if i do...i won't boot or i will corrupt something.

    What ya all think?

It's more a combo of FSB/Ram speed and the type of ram used... if you run 1:1 it will be 9- 10 the lowest you can expect, 8 prolly will not even boot... only one way to find out and is to test...

1:1 ( FSB/RAM ratio) sets 13 as PL when transaction booster is set to AUTO... set TB to manual and try eg 10... and test, also to enhance ram speed (but decrease stability) you could enable static read control...

When I was overclocking with my Crucial Ballistx I was 1:1 with PL13, then best I could tighten upto on that was PL10 but took a e load more voltage across the board, so I settled for PL12 in the end.

But now with this new kit im running 5:6 and like I said earlier, I got nothing but erros PL10 and above, the last thing I expected was it to be stable at PL8, memtest Pro is just comming upto 1000%, I shall prolly leave that running overnight too be sure and then work on increasing the overall mem speed, after all 20mhz extra is sod all.

Well if thats the case then i will pass on it for me trying 10 or anything lower then 13 pl ....

As its not that huge of a difference in performance to have componets overheating with more volts... lol

They are 500 fsb, with 333 strap and 12:10 divider. Memory timings manually set to 5-5-5-15 everything else on 'Auto'. 'DRAM Static Read Control', 'DRAM Read Training' and 'MEM. OC Charger' all set to Enable, 'AI Clock Twister' set to 'Moderate'. 'AI Transaction Booster' set to Manual with PL set as 8 and all pull ins enabled. Mem volts are at 2.14 in bios for this to be blend stable.

Have you tried just a bit more Vcore ? Blend mode is not only ram or chipset voltages... does it pass Small FFT's for a while ?
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree
