Also, check that vCore. 1.45v - way too high IMO! I'm @ 1.3625v for 3.8Ghz 24/7 Stable (On air).
Thanks mate , its high until I sort this out then I will try for min volts at 4ghz .

I found something interesting and I hope someone can explain this to me. After struggling for a few days since install to get my rig stable at 4Ghz+ I tried different ram and its stable now with no other changes. I was using ballistix 6400 at stock speed and fsb at 400 thanks to qx's unlocked multi , at 3600 its prime stable for as long as you want to run it , bump the multi from 9x to 10x and this issue starts . Now with fsb/ram speeds the same shouldnt stability etc be the same ? Before swapping the rams I memtested the ballistix overnight and passed 17 passes, so can you have a ram compatibility issue only at high cpu clocks ? With 6400 Teams in it now its primed for 6hrs. How does ram cause this if its not showing any other problems ?

What setting in bios is it that allows me to reduce vcore ?

After priming for 6 hrs I AI-tuned fsb up to 410 but the same dodgey core failed within seconds. I am now priming again with the above settings but vcore dropped to 1.425. If its good at that I will keep dropping it until its unstable again. I want to do a 3D06 run at 4500 too , try to crack 25k .

Also , as mentioned above , which temp monitoring program do I believe ? Do you guys use OCCT for the graphing feature ? Or some other reason ?

    Ave,

Two Questions, if anyone cares to explain...

#1: Does this Six Engine software interfere with Overclocking at all? Mine is automatically set to "High Performance" .. I have other options as well - but I don't know if it has anything to do with Overclocking or not.

#2: FSB Strap to North Bridge, Some folks here have it set to 333 and some have it set to 400 ... I have it at 400. Why the difference? How do you determine what you need to set it at?

    Thanks!!

    #1 - I've never used it.

#2 - I've mine set to 333 @ 488x8 and 1:1. At that speed there is next to no difference between 333 and 400 when running 1:1. But if I wasn't running 1:1 then both settings would give me different memory ratios, and thus I would choose the strap that allowed me to set the memory speed that I wanted.

OK is that these two settings ? Higher multi increases voltage ? Would these be numbered the same as they occur in Prime ? 0-1-2-3 ?

    1. I wondered this also , in case its causing some of my problems

    2. My rig wont run at 400 strap , so I leave it on auto , but 333 might be better.

I wish the P5Q Pro also could have the TWO GTL refs for the CPU and also it would be great to have the NB GTL Ref, it will be just nice for stability too (even on duals) ... i had those settings on the DFI DK X38-T2R (not UT or LT, so the "cheap" model, as the P5Q Pro) and it helped too much when achieving high clocks ... would it be too hard to implement it?

Yip those are the settings. But tbh with you I haven't got a clue if they're numbered the same as in Prime.

But it usually becomes pretty obvious pretty quickly if you have the changed the wrong one. Tho, saying that, setting the GTL's up perfectly is an extremely long and boring process. It took the best part of 3 days for me to get them and the NB GTL perfect for my 8hr Prime95 4ghz run. OCCT is damn handy for testing out each setting as it fails pretty quickly if the setting is far from perfect.

You were not kidding about the images; that looks amazing.

The blocks all look like EK to me. Could you clarify which ASUS ones fit this board for the NB, SB and mosfets as I'm very very tempted to rip the heatsinks off and watercool the lot.

It looks like EK-NB/SB 5 on the NorthBridge, EK-Mosfet ASUS 3a on the Mosfets and EK-NB/SB ASUS 1 on the SouthBridge to me.

Any chance of posting your BIOS settings here using that template shown on previous pages? I came from a 680i nVidia motherboard (had this E8400 @ 4.05 Ghz completely stable) and now i'm having some difficulties attaining the same speed. Either SuperPI fails or OCCT locks the system and i can't figure out where the issue is.

Guess i have to play a bit with the GTL settings too.

I think I can bump this up to maybe 485 with these settings. After that it becomes very unstable and that is prob where I need to do that but, Im happy with this.

    Hi...

Seems GTL Refs are important and I've never gave them much attention.

    Maybe that's why I can't stable my Q6600 G0 @ 3.8GHz.

What would be the values for a Q6600 for :

    CPU GTL Voltage Reference (0/2):
    CPU GTL Voltage Reference (1/3):

    Thanks in advance and Regards

    I can't bench seriously
BenchZowner gave a tip that worked for me

And maybe next time you enter the BIOS go to the Hardware Monitoring section and set the CPU Voltage indicator to "Ignored" to stop this message from appearing.
It was looping the warning in my board, but seting CPU Voltage to "ignored" solved! Now I can boot as high as I want

I didn't find them to be important with the Q6600. Leaving them on auto or 0.67 did the job, even at 500x8.

My E8400 refuses to run stable at 500x8, wish them to include all the GTL options also on the Pro

Yup, those are the two settings.

I couldn't state it as a technical fact, but in my personal experience tweaking the GTL's, it appears that they are indeed numbered the same as Prime5. So if you're having trouble with Core 3, it would be the (0/2) as you pointed out.

Quite interestingly, I myself had the biggest stability issue with Core 3 which kept failing on me, and finally resolved @ 0.675 (the other one is @ 0.670).

I didn't find total stability until I started tweaking with the GTL's, and for that I have Cob to thank in totality.

Mine are set to .63 and .64. I had to give the extra for cores 3 and 4.
