    Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

    If ya wanna play safe use 0610 or 0704... those are the official ones... This 0706 is beta still ( I think ) but has been proven to be a good performer with the P5Q-E (same bios slightly different board)

    Oooo maybe my ram will be overclockable with the Dimm driving changes, can't even get my ram to 1080mhz without dumping tons of voltage into it when I know these modules are capable of a bit more with much less voltage.

    Yeah no noticeable changes from what I can see at this early stage. Memory bandwidth is exactly the same as with 0702 and 0704, PL 13 is still the default PL at 1:1, and still can't go below 10 at 1:1.

    What are your ram timings? Did you have to drop them to 6-6-6-20 or something to that effect? I used to hit 1100mhz @ 2.15v and 1150 @ 2.18v using 5-5-5-15 on my old 680i board. I can't even get 1080mhz to successfully finish any memory stressing @ 2.25v on this board with all the memory enhancing stuff turned off. It MIGHT be that i have to drop the PL to 11 but I don't think I want to do that. I'm gonna see if I can do 8x500mhz with a PL of 9 like Leeghoofd and Mumid used a few pages back. I'd be happy with that performance.

    All I wanted was to have PL=7 @450fsb !

    PL=8 @ 450fsb sucks big time

    pmp, do you know where are the reading points for the SBridge Voltage and PCIE SATA Voltage (if they exist ) ?

    thats not that possible with a 1:1 ratio on your mems :?

    Try keeping your strap at 333. then select the memory speeds after that.
    strap 333 = 7 Pl and if your mem can handle it 6.
    strap 266 = 6pl and sometimes 5
    strap 200 = pl 5

    trfc 55 was the key to clocking it up that hight though.

    Damn, another new bios to test already.

    Anyway, this mobo does indeed prefer higher FSB for Everest.

    These are not meant to be record breaking screenies...just me comparing some numbers of these two options for me to run 24/7 stably:

    8x438 = 3504 MHz 5:6 DDR2-1051 5-5-5-15 tRD 8 pull-in enabled
    vs.
    10x350 = 3500 MHz 2:3 DDR2-1050 5-5-5-15 tRD 6 pull-in enabled.

    All subtimings were set very loose manually, not auto, so the main difference in scores is due to FSB & tRD (what i was comparing).
    I'll worry about tightening them later for better scores.

    I figured that at least with tRD lower 10x350 2:3, it'd be better latency, but nope.
    8x438 5:6 wins pretty clearly, at least in Everest.

    hello everyone, have a serious problem with this board, this thing wont boot if i install ram on the right set of ram slots. i have 4 1gb ocz ddr2 1100 modules and 2 supertalent ddr2 800 1gb modules. i have tried installing 1 or 2 modules on the left set of ram slots and it boots just fine, i have tried installing all of my 6 modules one at a time and 2 at a time on the right slots and it just wont boot. installing one on the left and one on the right wont boot as well. have tried 0702, 0704, 0706 bioses but none of them fixes the problem. this is my second board, i returned the first one cause it had the same problem. can anyone help me find out what might be causing the problem? could it be the rams? or psu?

    q6700, 3 hd's (took 2 off), a dvdrw drive, 8800gtx, xfi platinum.

    1. Talked to Asus tech support again last and they basically said my board must be bad.
    2. I tried replacing battery...same problem.
    3. I took out all memory and board gives correct signature beep sequence for problems detecting memory...So the board is getting past the memory detection.
    4. Was about ready to give up on board...but decided to unplug my dvd burner from the PATA IDE port. Tried to boot...and saw something different than I ever have before. The Express Gate screen came up!! I had never seen this screen come up before...and it was functional. I could go into express gate and everything worked. I could also get into the BIOS and change settings. I then tried to save and exit and the board posted again...I went into express gate a couple of times and it appeared things were working fairly normal. Then one of the times when I went to exit the express gate and continue posting/booting...the POST screen froze where it has the black and white screen with the Intel Logo on the bottom right.

    So this got me semi-excited to actually see some different behaviour. So I unplugged my WD raptor and started getting random stuff. Sometimes express gate would work, othertimes not, sometimes no POST with blank black screen, sometimes POST would freeze on the B&W Intel logo screen. I tried plugging my raptor in and out on different ports...after a few minutes of playing around, my board started freezing on the B&W Intel logo screen consistently every time.

    So that is basically all the testing I've done. For now...I get a freeze on the B&W Intel logo screen everytime...

    Then I read [H]'s review and their problem they had with Raptor drives. I also saw than the previous version Asus board (P5K??) had problems with Raptor drives (and other sata drives).

    So from the [H] review and my experience with playing around with my raptor...maybe the P5Q series still has issues with Raptors?? I need to play some more tonight, hopefully I can get some kind of other behavior besides the B&W Intel logo screen freeze.

    Anyone else using WD Raptor with their P5Q-Dlx...

    I have the older 74gig version...
    So maybe I found someone with similar problems with an ASUS P5Q and a WD harddisk.
    I use a P5Q-E (BIOS 0706) and one of the two hdds:
    1. Seagate 320GB ST3320620AS
    2. WD6400AAKS 640GB

    I started clocking my X3350 with the seagate hdd, reached fsb 490MHz, was happy and started looking for 24/7 stable settings@3600MHz. No problems at all. Just a lot boot cycles because I could lower most voltages and still get prime95 running stably.
    Then I took the seagate out and put the wd hdd in - no boot (power led is lit but no post screen). Seagate back in the pc - boots with no problem at all. wd - no go.

    In a german forum some users answered to my post there that they have no problem with the same 640GB wd hdd an their ASUS P5Q-RPO, but the PRO is more different to my P5Q-E than your P5Q Deluxe is to my P5Q-E.

    If you find a solution please post it here.

    Are there firmware updates to wd hdds?

    regards
    mibo

    K Unhook all drives, DVD Roms...set bios to default plz...
    put one dimm on the right hand black slot... does it post ? if yes add another dimm in the right hand yellow slot... I tried all combo's here with the 4gb kits, because your case intrigues me... with one, two or 4 dimms the mobo posts no matter if I fill up the slots first from the right or from the left or mix them up to stay dual channel... I have high suspicion maybe one of the dimms is flakey... I would test them one by one... also do you force any settings in the bios for the ram ? It certainly is not your board as your replacement one acts in the same manner... could be an incompatability or a bad dimm or bad setting or a combo of all...
    Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

    @lee ill do all that when i get home, could it be a possibility that my psu is causing the problem? im using a pcp&c 510 watt psu. but i had no problems with it when it was on my old motherboard (ga-965p-ds3, everything on my pc is old exept for the new motherboard)
