    defective xspc water block?

    I recently installed an xspc full cover water block on my 8800gt. I painstakingly installed it making sure that the screws were not over tightened. I also have nothing but distilled water inside my loop.

    Now the problem is that by one of the screws that hold the plastic to the copper, it looks like someone smashed it with a screwdriver, and there is a crack that runs down the face of the block. It is physically impossible to be struck in the location it is in. The unit is not leaking water...for now.

    I contacted jab-tech about this but haven't heard anything. Is it possible my unit was defective, and how is jab-tech with customer service?

    Was it broke before you installed it? I don't think it would just crack while just sitting there. Let's see some pics when you have a chance.

    It was perfect before I installed it. I just don't get it, unless there are some gremlins or something. Jab-tech is taking care of me so far, so I'm not too worried about it. I just thought I would mention it after the qc thread recently

    Strange stuff. Any chance that a tiny little hairline crack could have expanded into something serious from the GPU heat?

    dam.... gettin' a bit nervous here. I've got a couple xspc 3870x2 blox that I quickly inspected upon delivery but haven't installed. (I'm taking the slow and steady concept to the max on my build.) Think I'll give 'em a more thorough exam like now. (edit: passed the eyeball & straightedge test.)

    And I want to reitterate, I never touched the screws on the acryllic side of the unit, and only hand tightened the block to the card, then giving an extra 1/8th turn with a screw driver to let it bite in.

    Thats bad.

    I can vouch for jab-tech. As long as you didnt do it, and its a defect, john has no issues on a RMA.

    But dude, 2 XSPC blocks going bad. Im gonna have to tell everyone now to wait on there blocks.

    perhaps the copper wasn't flat so when you attached it to the card, the weakest point of the plexi shattered. who knows...

    hopefully you can get an exchange, that is really messed up, good luck.

    yeah it definately blows, but John is taking care of me after seeing the pics.

    So, I've had a piece of paper towel taped to the block for over 24 hours now and not a drop of water has come out. Think its safe to just run my loop until the replacement top gets here?

    I don't think it's safe or that advisable. Just put the stock cooler back on and keep your parts from any accidental damage. Better safe than sorry.

    It was nice not finding any visible trouble with my xspc blocks. Great, now I can chew on the food for thought about the DDCs and their xspc top counterparts. (Got a couple of each of those too.)

    hey op you seriously didnt drop this block right?

    Now that i take a good look, it looks like it was dropped on that bolt.

    (your last picture shows the impact site and location by broken acrylic on the side)

    The pressure from the impact then caused the cracks. :T

    I SW E A R I did not drop this unit. This is my first WC rig so I babied these parts. Everything was handled with utmost care. dropped at the factory creating a hairline crack maybe?

    Hairline expanding into this kinda state is kinda hard to believe...
    once again, not accusing but overtightening should not result in such "shattered" cracks...might be tough getting this RMA'ed unless Jab's really nice
