Will AMD Rain on NVIDIA's 9800GTX+ Party?
TG Daily is reporting that AMD is preparing to stoke up its GPU war with NVIDIA by unleashing overclocked HD 4850 powered solutions, in order to parry against rival NVIDIA's 9800GTX+. Apparently, by removing overclocking restrictions, AIB's will be able to offer a range of overclocked SKU's, with higher core and memory clock speeds, together with up-rated cooling solutions not being a stretch of the imagination. It is claimed that senior ATI officials anticipate overclocked SKU's to offer an increase of 50 MHz to the core clock speed, compared to currently available HD 4850 parts. Company names on the proverbial grapevine and, set to offer these solutions are, unsurprisingly, HIS, together with Sapphire Technology and Diamond. The upcoming HD 4870 isn’t expected to escape pre-overclocking treatment either.

Force3D Ushers Forth HD 4870 SKU Specifications
Force3D has, today, announced the specifications of its first SKU powered by AMD's HD 4870 GPU. A core speed of 750 MHz, paired together with 512 MB of GDDR5 memory running at a frequency of 3.6 GB/s are the order of the day, whilst technicalities such as the presence of 800 stream processors and a 256-bit memory interface prove commonality with AMD's HD 4850 offering. Using Extreme settings, Force3D's own 3DMark Vantage results claim that their HD 4870 iteration has a speed advantage of 58% over the HD 3870X2.

holey crossfire batman , thats WTF awesome!
Wow, the 4870 is awesome! Nvidia can gothemselves with their GTX260! I'm going ATI this round!
For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

Omega Magna Giraffe! 4870 seems to be epic. Suck it Nvidia. Power consumption worries me, but someone mentioned that perhaps powerplay isn't working properly. AFAIK it only really affects idle and in between idle and load. Max load would still be max load, right? Either way, GG ATI on the manageable form factor and cooler compatibility. Get that puppy with an Accelero S1 and I'll be golden.
4850 Crossfire owns hard! For the gamers...
PWNED HARD!
All systems sold. Will be back after Sandy Bridge!
and its 300 USD cheaper..
If it can do a 2900XT then it will also be able to run a 4870. 2900XT draws more power than the 4870.

Is the release date of the 4870 still July 8th or was it moved up?
