One more thing to note...I went back and saw you do have the same sticks.

try these, I found after a bad OC attempt if I reset to these settings MemTest was fine.

    Clock Mode: Linked
    Ratio: Sync Mode
    FSB (QDR): 1600
    P1: Enabled
    P2: Enabled
    tCL: 7
    tRCD: 7
    tRP: 7
    tRAS: 18
    CMD: 2T
    Voltage: 1.9v

Memtest is fine for me. I have yet to fail it, unless I set my timing/voltages wacky.

I am not trying to overclock yet. I just want a regular boot.

I will try those settings though.

With these settings, it bluescreens on the boot of the installation disk.

Could you post all of your settings?

The solution was to install: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777

When you try to install Windows Vista, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
    STOP 0x0000000A (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
    • The computer uses more than 3 GB of RAM.
    • The computer uses a storage system that is running the Storport miniport driver.
    • The computer uses a controller that uses 32-bit direct memory access (DMA).

Is there consensus on which manufacturer's 790i ultra board is best and most stable?

I am leaning towards S2E from ASUS, but just wondering if the corruption issues have been permantently solved?

Also I want to put 8GB RAM (from my sig), has S2E had problems with 8GB?

8GB...I think you'll be the first in this thread. I for one would love to see someone try it. I intend to move to 8GB when prices fall further on 2GB 1800 sticks.

Anand posted this article where they overclocked the Asus 790i with 8GB of hand picked OCZ. http://www.anandtech.com/weblog/showpost.aspx?i=419 so I guess technically it's possible but the amount of tweaking I have had to do just to get to 1800 with 4GB leads me to believe you will have trouble with 8GB.

I'm sold, thanks for the link! I will be happy with 1600Mhz.
