I think A.C. Ryan needs to work on his color swatches; the color is supposed to be red….looks pink to me.

yeah that fan defo looks pink! i was gonna get some of those 2.Lucky i didn't,i thought you had a d-tek fuzion ? maybe i was looking @ another worklog?

Fuzion v1 and v2 outperforms the gtx by a few degree's and would suit your build aesthetics a bit more imo.

    look forward to more updates

Not a good case? There have been so many great WC builds with this case, it has influenced me so that this will be the first case I ever use for WC (Coming Soon).

I like those red fans, even if they are pink. How do they perform?

Lol nope, I’ve always had the Apogee GTX. I cant really justify getting a d-tek fusion when I already have a GTX and the d-tek fusion’s barb orientation doesn’t fit with my tubing layout.

Send me a PM when you start your build; I don’t want to miss that!

Are you referring to the A.C. Ryan 120mm Fans? They actually perform very well and I really like the fact that the fan and the LED’s have independent power connections. In my build I will be under-volting the fan for silence.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I need to add a locking systems to the case……anyone have any recommendations?

After staring at the case for a few hours I realized the most under utilized space is behind the front cover, and thus I must put something there.
A few of the ideas I’ve been toying with but I’m sure where to start:
    -RFID Security/Automation
    -A moving/sliding door

Here is a quick preview of some of the “toys” I’ve ordered:
5 x Serial ATA II Data Cable with latching mechanism 45cm (18") Straight to Left Angle - Black (SATA2-SL-BK-18)
2 x Serial ATA II Data Cable with latching mechanism 60cm (24") - Straight to Right Angle - UV Red (SATA2-UVR-SR-24)
1 x Ultra PC Vent II with 2 LED 45mm Fans PCI System Exhaust - Black (ULT30986)
2 x *** NEW *** Scythe "ITA KAZE" Slim Hard Disk Cooler (SCIT-1000)
1 x Evercool Cool Wheel Hard Drive Cooler HD-CW-SR - Black Cover. Red Fan (EC-HD-CW)
    2 x *** NEW *** Lamptron ClearPuk - 7 LED Spread Lighting Module - Sleeved - Red (CLEARPUK-RD)
2 x Premium EL Wire : Red (ELWRED)
2 x EK Spare Reservoir Holders (Set of 2) (EK-RES-HOLDERS)
    1 x Fan Screws - #4 X 3/8" Stainless Steel - Set of 4 (FAN-SCREWS4-38)
    1 x Motherboard Quick Disconnect Cable 10-Pin - Sleeved (MOBO-QUICKDISC)
4 x Serial ATA II Data Cable with latching mechanism 45cm (18") - Straight to Right Angle - UV Red (SATA2-UVR-SR-18)
    4 x 120 mm Fan Grill - Black (GRILL120BK)
    1 x Logisys 2 AC Base Adaptor w/ Remote Control (RM202)
    1 x Diamond Disk - Compare to Dremel 545 - Bulk (545)
    25 x 18AWG Stranded Hook Up Wire UL Approved - Black (NTE-18AWG-BK)
    1 x Conductx™ Molex Quad-Splitter, 5xUVLED, UVblue (ACR-CB4432)
2 x *** NEW *** Koolance Swiveling Angle Fitting (Low Profile), Single (NZL-LXG2)

Looking good. I agree these cases are a challenge. I've been watercooling one for a whilen now and will also be rebuilding it soon.

Curious to see what all the led thingies are for in that order =D

Well this IS XS so once the performance side has been taken care of, then its time for the “Bling” and toys.

I will be writing/designing a program to allow an RFID Tag to hold logon passwords. Another project will set off an alarm if the computer goes out of range (say 10ft).

No one will be jacking my in college!

Either way, there are lots of extras….I hope I don’t need a better PSU.

For now I have a few quick questions:
    • Does anyone have images of the thermal distribution on the bottom of a DDC pump?
    • How does one achieve a flattened area around a port on a circular reservoir? (Like the Ek Reservoirs)
    • Some of my koolance fittings have begun to chip; exposing the brass, is this cause for concern? Photos of this are on my flickr..
    • What are the two holes positioned closer to the center on the bottom of a DDC for?

    You can basically use any 40 x 20mm fans….

I personally used ACE 40 x 20mm UV Glow Fan - Red (available here: www.performance-pcs.com)

great build, what is the dual blower gonna be for? Also great mod for the DDC, how much of a diff does having a fan on there make though, I've heard it overheating but I'm not sure if I wanna cut up my xspc ddc stand. Ah if only they had a D60 in stock back when I was picking out my DSLR, I ended up with a XTi, cuz I hated the grip for the D40x, and got a EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS to go with it, not a bad lens, still waiting to save up enough to grab a EF 17-40mm f/4L Wide Angle.

I’m just one of those people that always has to be doing something….ALWAYS!!! Right now while I’m waiting for the 790i FTW or something else new I need stay occupied.

Evil, I hear your pain! I ordered my D300 through a Nikon accommodation and so I was forced to wait the standard 3-6 weeks………it was brutal! Who did you order you camera from? Have you shot with a VR before?

The blower will be attached to the mesh bottom of the case right under the HDD rack. The theory for this setup is that not only will it provide better airflow through the HDD rack but it will also move the air to the sides making the HDD fans and its self inaudible.

It’s funny because I got so inspired from seeing DB’s DDC Fan Mod that I had to make one of my own yet I’ve never even turned my DDC on. I just love to mod I guess.

As far as lenses go, the lens I’ve been shooting with is a 55mm F1.8 and as you can see its amazing especially when it only costs ~$140! If you’re looking for lenses, a fixed lens will almost always be sharper than a zoom lens. Also F4 is very slow; a faster lens would be much more versatile and personally I’ve had better luck with faster exposures; even my Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Zoom Lens is a bit faster and having VR is like CHEATING!

I assume that you're using the EnzoTech SLF-1 as you list it in the first message but I don't see it in your signature. Did you try to come up with a waterblock solution for the 780i SB before you installed the EnzoTech SLF-1? Do you think the EnzoTech SLF-1 is a better solution than the Evercool fan or don't know?

Are there compatibility issues using the EK-FC9800GX2 wateblock and either of the 780i NB or SB? I wish my system looked half as good as yours.

    and i couldnt resist, price was too good $799 for the D60, AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR, and a AF-S DX VR Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G

    the lens alone total to $189.95 + $229.95 = $420 and
depending on where you shop the body is around $550+
    so i say fair deal

now a comment on your build

as of now, its hard to visualize the build as a whole, but from what i see
im sure results will be stunning, do you have a full case shot in its current
state? everything looks so busy, but the D300 makes it look beautiful

    keep it up

Actually I’m using the Evga Southbridge fan right now because my 9800GX2 interfered with the fan blades on the EnzoTech SLF-1. Please remember that I was the first to do the modification of using a waterblock on the 9800GX2 without completely removing the outer case. The issue with the mod is that to hold the two sides closed I used a zip tie which ends up being positioned over the southbridge on the 780i. Even now the zip tie pushes down on one side of the EVGA fan making it uneven; this is one of the issues still holding this builds completion back.

I would actually prefer a waterblock solution for the Southbridge as I have a separate loop just for motherboard cooling. This was one of my primary reasons for wanting the EVGA 780i FTW or the 790i FTW (watercooled versions). At this time I’m not aware of any southbridge waterblocks that clear the 9800GX2. If you’re aware of any, let me know!

I would definitely recommend the EnzoTech SLF-1 over the Evercool VC-RE for having better build quality and being more aesthetically pleasing. I can’t comment on performance as I haven’t done any testing with them but I would expect that the EnzoTech SLF-1would offer superior performance.

I’m going to make the following very clear so others will see this as well:
There are NO known issues with using a 9800GX2 with an EK Water block and using the EnzoTech SLF-1, EVGA 680i Southbridge Fan, or Evercool VC-RE on the 780i motherboards. Unless, a modification is done to the 9800GX2 that makes it stick out farther than the original outer case does. ex. My 9800GX2 Mod

Wow, it sounds like you got a pretty slick deal. I remember back when I was first starting out with a D40x; I purchased the DVD’s as well and studied them closely! Lol! Good choice going with both VR lenses; like I always tell customers “It’s like CHEATING”! A friend and I were fooling around with my 18-200mm VR in my kitchen one night and we were able to get the shutter speed down to about a 1/5 or 1/2 of a second which amazed us of course!

I haven’t had much time to play with the D60 but I noticed right away that it was a significant improvement over the D40 and D40x….again Kudos!

The build is still in pieces and all my computer hardware which is currently on the dining room table (it’s been there since 11-07) has to be moved downstairs because the relatives will be coming over, so it may be a few days before any work can be done on this build.

The most recent pictures are posted on my flickr account as usual.

I still have a few questions:
    • Does anyone have images of the thermal distribution on the bottom of a DDC pump?

    • How does one achieve a flattened area around a port on a circular reservoir? (Like the Ek Reservoirs)

    • Some of my koolance fittings have begun to chip; exposing the brass, is this cause for concern? Photos of this are on my flickr..

    • What are the two holes positioned closer to the center on the bottom of a DDC for?

    • Does Bitspowers G1/4 Thread 1/2" ID x 5/8" OD Compression Fittings fit on a D-TEK FuZion v2 or are they too wide?
