Thanks for the comments guys.
It's something I've considered. One thing I've noticed about the opaque tubing is that because you can't see the tube wall, it doesn't have the same visual dimension as clear hose. It's hard to explain but I personally don't like the look as much for this reason. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Progress Report: Since Fried Chicken has nobly chosen to pony up for the Nickel blocks (not to be confused with Nickelback) - I thought I'd try to do something with the top of the case that would show them off. I'm going to use a piece of acrylic to replace the metal fan grill. Something like this perhaps:
The acrylic would be 5mm thick with the flange routed down to 2mm. This would allow the top of the acrylic to be flush with the top of the case. I think it would be good to allow airflow so I came up with a design that will also give the piece a bit of visual detail.
Basic rendering of roughly what the piece would look like in the case. I'll have to check with my acrylic guy as to whether his laser cutter can do 5mm - if not I'll have it cut by water jet. I think the flange routing is going to be a bit more of a challenge. I've got a decent router so maybe I'll try to do it myself - if I'm feeling brave that is.![]()
