I came across with this problem many times. The way to fix it is, set the Virtual Memory allocation to exactly the same Ram memory amount.
Example: If you have 2GB set VM to 2.048. If you set more than you have let's say 4.096 then your system will slowly be dependent of the HD to override the memory address into Memory Cache. That is the reason games tend to crash, not always but some of the times.
