That's awesome I am looking at your memory latency that's incredible can you get that same 48.9 or whatever with all 4 gigs of memory installed and if so can you give me your timings because my memory OCing isn't going that well or not as well as yours.. I would really appreciate it and also can you run 4 gigs at 1T?? I don't think I can but if you can let me know I would love to dial my memory in better I have a QX9650 coming tomorrow and I would love to get the kind of scores you show in your pics... Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Also to the previous I forgot to mention I have the 1.2HT set to 1.55 per fordf250 and memory latency issues so that's the only setting I forgot to include...

Guacomole, to answer your question: no, I'm unable to reach the same timings with 4GB... I did all of my overclocking only with 2 sticks. Although I can reach 1266mhz with 4GB, the timings had to be loosen though to 6-5-5-10...
On the other hand, I can run 4GB at 920mhz at 4-5-4-12 1T

But I've reached my 'stable state' and am not going to play with overclocking for a while and enjoy some quality games (SLI + 4GB).... well at least until I build my custom phase change system this summer

    Well from the ASUS website:

    2 2 x PCIe x1 ( the PCIEx1_1 (black) is compatible with audio slot)
So i dont see why you cant use it for something else other than the audio card...

Don't give up on SLI. It has nothing to do with getting a bad board or two or three or four. When you get a good board, you will love it.

    Hey everyone,

I just put my new box together, including the Striker II. Just about to try and post for the first time with it. I'll be trying to over clock it just for stable 24/7 use - don't want to break any records, and I'm a bit of a nubie when it comes to OCing. Going over this thread has been very useful for me - thanks to all who contributed!

    System:
    Asus Striker II Formula
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 - Retail
    Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler
    8GB (4x2GB) Corsair TwinX DDR2 PC2-8500 (1066MHz CAS 5-5-5-15)
    BFG GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB GDDR3
Seagate 250GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200RPM 16MB Cache (x2 in RAID 0 array)
Maxtor 500GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache
Icy Box IB-138SK-B 3.5" SATA HDD Caddy
    Pioneer DVR-115D 20x DVD Writer
    Tagan TG800-U33 800W 2-Force II Series PSU
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit

I'm still waiting for the 1066MHz RAM, so I've got 2x2GB 800MHz in there till it arrives.

Has anyone used the audio card that came with the board? If so, how does it compare to other cards eg. creative sound blasters?

Vladmax - I may try polishing the heat pipes if my temps are high. One question if I may - How did you remove/re-fit the clips that hold the pipes to the board?

Is it just me, or is the ATX power socket kinda loose?

When I tried to post for the first time, nothing happened. Then I saw the connector from mu PSU was half out of the socket, after wondering what could be wrong for the best part of 2 hrs! arghh!

Anyone know any tricks to keep it in there?

basically my specs are the same as yourse just diffrent brand and most of them didnt arrive yet
im not gonna use the card that came with it so i cant help you there
and also you dont polish the heatpipes, you lap the bottom of the heatsink which i guess would be very hard to do on this board, if the temps are to high, start of by changing the tim and i have the same question as about the pushpins

    Good point ^^

OK so I have my Quad at 3.6ghz which is where I wanted it, with RAM @ 1000mhz C4-4-4-12 which I may tighten also, Have not primed for long, but seems to be all good.

I must say I'm impressed over the 680i... However I'm yet to benchmark it.

Settings to run my Q6600 from asus PC probe are as follows (havn't played with them alot yet, perhaps room to lower)

    CPU Vcore 1.36v
    Memory 2.28v
    1.2V HT 1.52v
    NB 1.62v
    SB 1.49v
    CPU VTT 1.39v
    CPU PLL 1.87v

Hope this is usefull for anyone trying to use a quad. Also hope anyone trying to use a quad has lots of motherboard cooling.

Good stuff. Will be interesting to see how you get on with yours.

Not sure what you mean by "you lap the bottom of the heatsink" ???

Anyway, the new box is up and running now. I'm just tweaking the OS (first time using Vista) and drive config., and will have a go at over clocking as soon as I've managed to backup/image my C:\ (its a RAID 0 array).

Idle temps right now according to bios are:
    CPU - 32
    M/B - 34
    NB - 65
    SB - 58

Well, I've screwed up. I removed the NB-SB-Fet coolers. The thermal paste was was solid rock hard and difficult to remove. I scraped and sanded it off carefully. I snipped the fet coolers and replaced them, and put Thermaltake NB coolers on the NB and SB. After re-installation, motherboard won't post. My poster cord got screwed up about a month ago, so I can't tell why it won't post. Removed the battery and left it overnight. No joy.

I guess I will buy another board for the poster, and change out the Cooling system so I can RMA this board, hehe.

On the upside, bought Patriot PC9600 RAM and it is fantastic.
    PC6400 Kingston HyperX 4-4-4-12-2T @ 888 Mhz best bandwidth was ~8400 MB/sec
PC9600 Patriot Viper 4-4-4-12-2T @ 1200 Mhz initial bandwidth 9600 MB, without getting into tighter timings. For the price, the Patriot RAM is fantastic.

Well I was able to do some more changes, now hav CPU at 3.64ghz and ram at 1010mhz 4-4-4-12 but still wont boot with 1t, though it does post.

It didn't get over 60c on CPU, let me have a little more time to play so I can push a little further. Then I will prime it and get some temps.

My NB doesnt seem to get extremely hot to the touch, not like my 680i did.

Anyone have a good tool I can download to get NB and SB temperature??

thanks, when I get something I will test.

Did run 3dmark and nuclear, and SPi, this thing is a slug compared to the X38, but its more reliable, and easier to use, so I'm happy. Will post scores when I get some time.

Here some extract from core temp, been running longer now, but no point keep showing you, its only getting cooler, because ambient is dropping with night closing in, and with thermal paste burning in.

Contains hottest and coldest readings from that time, still priming though.

Crap, still need to do that next week when I get my 780i/9800GTX blockset from EK.

What may have caused it? That thermal paste is so f#$!#ed up, unbelievable!

I turned off PC after 3 hours. Didn't go back above 51c.

I read alot about the HS being no good over NB, I must have one that is an exception, it seems to work well enough, even with 1.63v. Gets quite warm, but not hot enough to be concerned.
