    It's not!...if you look carefully you'll notice that the second PCI-E slot is only an 8x electrical slot, which means they were able to place the 1394 controller under the PCI-E connector:

    See where the pins end inside the PCI-E slot?...the rest of the slot is solid plastic, a notch is cut out from underneath this section to allow the the 1394 controller chip to be placed, thus saving space on the PCB...it's actually a VERY smart idea!
