This is very cool!
I just downloaded CPUCooL and it reduced my idle temps by 14C!
Before CPUCooL my cpu was idling about 55C and after 41C. Oh ya got to love this little app!
You can d/l it here:

cpuidle and vcool also work well, however they were increasing the time it took to complete a folding wu so I deleted them and am looking for better methods. So if you fold, not a good solution...if you don't fold give vcool a try also..liked it best.![]()

folding is more important IMHO I like my 43C full load temps anyways. (from air cooling)
My epox board rev.1.01 have unstable Vcore... until I get that sorted out I need reduced temps... after I get it sorted I may start folding.![]()

LBJGH,
We would love to have you on the Folding Team.
In the meantime, maybe we could help you with your problem. Could you post more info? Is your power supply modded? What is your vcore set at, what does it drop to, etc? Some of the folks here might have some suggestions that would help.

Good to hear about your temp drop, LBJGH.
On my 8K3A right now that I'm folding with I am running an AX-7 with a Vantec Tornado @ about 3000RPM(using a rheo to control RPM's). Pretty quiet, @ 1.8GHz, default voltage for the time being(yet to yank this new CPU out and unlock it...still, lol). My idle temps drop as low as 24c...full load temps about 48-50c.

How much is my halt-cooling hack effecting my folding speed? Is it a big difference? If so, I will disable it![]()

Check your logfiles to compare with hack and without hack to see how long a wu takes to complete. It took several minutes more on most of mine with vcool or cpuidle on so I turned it off. It varied from pc to pc, but all mine were slower. I'm going to look for other ways to cool, like better fan/hs and thermal paste, etc.I wasn't using a reg key (well..the proggie I used was).

Thanks for offer of help but I think it is a hardware problem I am dealing with.
My original rev.1.02 worked flawlessly with my current setup until it failed. I'm currently using a 350w whisper enermax p.s. I RMA'd the motherboard to the Vendor who replaced the board with a used rev.1.01.
Although I was pissed at the older mobo I didn't think too much of it until I noticed the Vcore wasn't being maintained. I have to set 1.80v to achieve 1.76v. When I play some UT2003 the system crashes... I've seen Vcore drop to 1.71v while I had it set to 1.80v.
I contacted the Vendor about this and they claim they can't do anything about it unless the Epox warehouse sends a new rev.1.02. Since the mobo is no longer being produced the Vendor says that I may be stuck with what I have, which is total B.S.
I offered to purchase another motherboard from them if they accepted the old mobo for an in-store credit. My offer was flatly refused because the mobo is now non-current.
Unfortunetly I purchase VIA the internet (I'm in Ontario and the Vendor is in British Columbia) and they don't seem to be very cooperative.
I e-mailed Epox customer support and did not get a response!
... Now if you can help with the aforementioned you'd make me happy.

Man that sux! I would keep after epox for rma. Try this link, there is an Epox tech who hangs out there who might actually be able to help you! Just post you problem there. Good luck with it.![]()

This thread made me think of an old program WPCREDIT. My cracked Tbird idles at 55c at 1.75vcore.LOL I went back to this program and installed it. (52 to EB) Now surfing the Internet I'm at 30c at 1.92.
Haven't check Folding yet, but I have no other choice.
OK, I tried vcool and like it better... idle at 36C![]()
Is this only smoke and mirrors... when I restart the PC the temp spikes up to about 45C

I like V-cool also. I was going to say that the 5v rail is important on the Epox board, but if you ar getting a 4.9 u should be ok. There is a real simple mod for the enermax to get the full 5v. I do it on all of mine. I'll post a link.
Enermax P.S. mod I just used a variable pot just like the volt mode that Icee wrote.
Thanks for the link.
But would the 5v rail cause problems... the Vcore was left at the default (1.75v) in the bios and the average is 1.72v and low of 1.70v
I didn't have this problem with my original mobo.

Actually the Epox board is affected by the 5v rail because they don't use a sufficient (can't remember the name right now) they only usse 2 where boards like abit use 3. to answer your question yes it definately effects stability. I'll post another link to a website forum that discusses the 5v rail and the Epox M.B.
Here is an article from PCA about the 2 phase voltage regulation compared to MB using 3 phase regulation. It isn't the one I read, but it is a starting point.
cpucool is the one that does the HALT command right?
