(i removed the vote from eastcoasthandle since he accidentally voted for every option)
i know its not many votes, but lets look at the results:
790 in general: 15 reports of corruption, 15 reports of no corruption
50%... thats quite high, even for a poll on xs asking about corruption imo
790 reference: 6 reports of corruption and 9 reports of no corruption.
so exactly 40% using the reference board experienced corruption
790 asus S2E : 9 reports of corruption and 6 reports of no corruption.
so exactly 60% using the reference board experienced corruption.
again, there arent that many reports yet but atm it looks like we can draw 2 conclusions:
1. unusual high amount of corruption problems with 790 in general, regardless of whether the chipset was oced to speeds it was not stable anymore or not.
everybody here pushes their system to the limits but its uncommon to have the OS corrupt this often. and apparently it seems to happen even though most benchmarks pass and the system appears stable.
2. there are 30% more asus S2E corruption reports than reference evga/xfx corruption reports.
so far nobody posted any results from doing a system integrity check like eternal suggested. could you please post your results of this check?
thanks everybody!![]()

till today i had no problems with corruption, but after playing with bios 511 my yesterday unpacked pretty new disk is now dead ... disk is going to RMA and Striker II Ex to box, waiting for official stable bios release ... now its time to play with refference XFX board ...
your hdd... died?!?!? :o
you mean one of your raptors in your sig?
are you sure its dead?
did you try WD bootable disk tool or something?
maybe the index tables on the hdd are corrupt... happened to me one or two times, but those hdds never lived long after that and had plenty of bad sectors.
I'm sorry for those who've been the "beta testers" for this chipset. Sadly this just reinforces the idea that NV chipsets are just bad. I wouldn't want to see a 1 in 10 corruption issue. The ratios here are just outrageous.
They've tried so many times and they fail and fail again.
For anyone old enough to not have being in Dippers when NF2 released (inc rev2).
There was Corruption back then also, it was finally fixed after a good few Silicon Image SATA Bioses and SATA Drivers.
I will assume the same will happen here, the MOBO's are new and support is immature, Nvidia will make new SATA Bioses and SATA Drivers.
REMEMBER to Lock your BUS Clocks.

disk is totally dead, no go on another mobo too. It is not my Raptor but new sealed only for testing disk Seagate, now is disk dead and i hear some clik-clak from ...
Using the EVGA board, I've been able to get some excellent overclocks using the Q9550 (considering the locked multi). The catch is that to run the RAM above 1760MHz, I've had to run at 2T just to boot.

yeah man, this poll is about data corruption that is happening on an otherwise stable system. borking a windows install because memory timings are too tight or frequency too high is not what is being questioned here...you can do that on any board because the system isn't otherwise stable
yes, the 790i chipset seems more susceptible to trashing a windows install when pushing memory but you can do that with any board if you really try
so far the EVGA has been good to me, even in this regard...but i am also doing a quick couple loops of Memtest86+ #5 before attempting windows on 'suspect' memory clocks![]()

anybody honestly think that a bios fix will/can resolve these corruptions?
Has anyone tried a 3rd-part SATA controller and siabled on-board SATA? Results?

I should have seen that...oops.![]()
So it appears to be a problem with the MCP controller (as Anandtech pointed out). I went through a series of 680i boards before finally giving up on them entirely. I've said this before--I see the conroe platform plagued with memory issues and the only way those problems are going to disappear is when Intel finally integrates the memory controller on-chip.
My Max Formula has had issues and I've already RMAed several sticks of memory. None of them were over-volted or overclocked and they had a Corsair cooler to keep them cool in my full tower LL case. The only thing I did "different" was to use four sticks instead of the more typical two.
I'm now debating whether to go with 2x2GB DDR2 or wait out the 790i issues to see if they're resolved. It's a rotten shame. The 790i is an otherwise fantastic chipset, albeit grossly overpriced.

hmmm i was using 7 nf2 boards and never had any corruption issues... then again i was using IDE hdds then...
yeah, i pmed the staff and asked them to edit the poll.
i cant do it myself..
!!!!
well for how long are you using it now? 2 weeks? 3 weeks?
well it seems 680 and 780 have the same issues and theyve been on the market for how long? if its possible to fix, then nvidia doesnt seem to want to fix it or they arent able to fix it... so i personally wouldnt hold my breath...
this really sucks tho... so many people praised the boards/chipset, then it suddenly started to be very quiet... and then one after the other everybody started posting about the problems...
FYI, xt0m just lost a 74GB Raptor and a 250Gb WD HDD on his 790 board! :o
he got bsod's, then problems during install, so he ran the WD disk tool and they are both dead/damaged...
Achill3us... id recommend you to unplug your raptor NOW lol :S
So how many HDDs has 790 killed so far?
OBR raptor
xt0m raptor + 250Gb wd hdd
anandtech 2x 74gb raptor
5hdds so far, and they are all WD! coincidence?
people with high end systems tend to use WD raptor drives, so maybe its as coincidence...
but it might have to do with the HDDs as well!

ok, updated stats with dinos22 vote changed, obrs vote removed and eastcoasthandles votes removed:
6 S2E no corruption
11 XFX/EVGA no corruption
10 S2E corruption
5 XFX/EVGA corruption
46% of 790 reports mention unusual corruption
66% of the corruption issues happened with an S2E
33% of the corruption issues happened with an XFX/EVGA
Had no problems with 680i and SATA at all.
And hopefully ( currently it sounds like a dream )... not with the 790i as well.
That's positive thinking...as my Striker II Extreme isn't here yet :@
Successful flash of the P03r2 BIOS to the EVGA 790i here using a SATA Samsung DVDRW
*DISCLAIMER*
I cannot be held resonsable for any damage that may occour
I flashed the beta BIOS using this method:
Download bios here
Burn the BIOS file to rewriteable CD/DVD, floppy, or USB flash disk (not tried)
Restart PC, and press ALT-F2 to load the built in flashing software (see MB manual)
Flash BIOS, restart, turn off, Clear CMOS
Enjoy lower latencies, and slightly improved bandwidth

I would like to see specified if raid was used or not. It may make a difference in corruption.
Besides, one thing is data corruption, another is to render a HDD unusable (altough a low-level format i think could fix it). The second I dont want to touch with a wooden pole.
I already dont trust sata drives reliability, adding another factor to their death is unacceptable.
Let's see in 6 months or something what's going on with the 790i, otherwise Skulltrail (and its slow memory) is the only choice for me.
