NB run cooler then SB on this board (don't ask me why...) Never went over 70°c NB (with AS5) SB run about 5°c more. I probably just got myself a weak board. I think its a rip off for the price, having to run 1 extra fan both SB/NB show real design flow from ASUS

I have my card set at 90°c never had a shutdown since a installed the 2 fan and AS5 but when i first got this board, it would hit the limit on stock setting with no OC... 90°c SB.

Guys is the CpuZ core voltage correct? I am getting to know my CPU and it's capabilities, before this it was running at 375 X 9 with memory running 1:1 and CpuZ reported core voltage of 1.18, i upped the speed to 385 X 9with memory 1:1 again and core voltage reading is 1.12 this time. I set it to 1.20 in bios though. Using bios 0801 that was shipped with the motherboard.

For me CPU-Z reports lower Voltage for this board then BIOS, PC-PROBE or EVERESTfor me it is as follows:

    BIOS (manualy set) - 1.425
    PC PROBE - 1.39
    EVEREST - 1.39
    CPU-Z - 1.31

The problem i have now is that, Everest and CpuZ is reporting lower then set bios setting, and lower then previous voltage on a lower overclock. Wonder if the chipset is at fault or incorrect prog. Btw the default for E8400 is 1.200 yeah?

this might be cpuz reading the vcore incorrectly...
dont forget cpuz is made by one man and most mainboard manufacturers dont support him and his work at all

i think you could help to improve cpuz by posting cpuz dumps here, maybe franck can then use them to improve the vcore readout in a new cpuz version

in general all voltages and values you see reported in tools in windows are not 100% reliable.
as far as i know all tools use the same registers to meassure and caclulate timings and temperatures and voltages.
those values are reported by the mainboard itself, and they are not very reliable which is why every tool adjusts the values slightly and adds an offset or uses a slightly different algorythm to interpret the values the hardware reports. thats why different tools report slightly different values.

Finally a striker II review over at anandtech.com

    [QX9650, 8GB, and Vista 64-bit]
"It seems that FSBs in the region of 400MHz have marginal stability with the quad-core processors when stressed with actual application benchmarks"

"We tried everything we could to get 3D stability but no amount of memory timing adjustments or component voltages brought us to the promised land of 3D stability"

"In the end we found that 3.5GHz with an FSB of 1400QFSB (350MHz) was the highest we could achieve and still pass PCMark Vantage"

    [Initial Thoughts]
"The 1101 BIOS release is pretty much dead-on for dual-core CPU overclocking and general day-to-day use"

"NVIDIA's 780i is on a par with the Intel X38/X48 DDR2 boards when it comes to dual-core CPU overclocking in the performance zone"

"For the quad-core CPUs, we see the 780i coping with the 45nm Penryns in the same way we experienced when the 680i was first introduced to 65nm quad-core processors"

"The stable FSB limits of the 780i boards are still lower than we'd like - especially compared to Intel boards"

Anyway the article makes for a very interesting read.

Thanks. Indeed, very interesting read. But I wonder why they struggle to get the board stable over 4ghz?! As I mentioned before, I'm very stable at 4.2 and mem timings are much tighter... I will post my 3dmark as soon as I receive my second 8800gtx for SLI performance.

Mmmm seems Striker II needs some more Bios updates , seems a tad slower than the eVGA I tested... or he is running his ram way sloooooooow....
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Hey there Thakkerson it would seem you have a conroe chip like myself, whats the story on your bios settings to acheive 3.94 ghz and is it 100% stable? Any chance you could share your settings, everybody else in the forum either has a Quad or "Wolfdale" Duo chip.

I 2nd that, show us your settings. I've been running this mobo with an E6600 for awhile and I absolutely cannot get this chip faster than 3.6. Q6600 was completely impossible at only 3.2 although that was with 4GB.

Actually been trying to get my hands on a wolfdale duo for some time now but it just keeps getting delayed lol guess we scandinavians are a bit behind the rest of the world and the US in particular it seems

I am running an E6750 and the most stable I can get to is 3.4 ps reg the "Wolfdales" I have been told by another forum member that he reckons Intel have stopped manufacturing or shipping them! .... In the UK my supplier has been out of stock for months now ... are there underlying issues with those chips who knows?

Hey, thats interesting. In fact I did pre-order a E8400 more than 1.5 months ago now but when it's nearing its due date it just keeps getting delayed. I would really like a 45nm dual-core to complement my striker - not really keen on running a quad with 4GB of mem and vista64 as several people have noted (anandtech's latest runup on the strikerII included) that its not a very ideal combination.

As for my E6600 OC settings, just check my sig. I did bring it up to around 3.8 - could boot and do basic tasks even a 3DMark06 run (15836 with 8800GTX in SLI) but it didnt last long in day-to-day use and didnt pass everest/OCCT stress tests for more than a few mins.

Both my e6600 and q6600 do 4G on this mb at 450fsb, I am trying to get 4.1G stable for the q6600. As I posted before the gtl for cpu and nb need to be at +30mv or more and with 4G of ram.

Some screens and even a boot at 475fsbx8 for the q6600.
