**Official DFI LanParty UT 790FX-M2R Review/Overclock/Guide Thread**

Hi all,

I'm recieving a DFI 790FX in a short time.
My ? is are the issues related to the SB600 fixed.
I want to be able to run RAID0 on 2 raptors and RAID1 on 2 WD RE's.
RAID0 will be the OS disc installing Vista HP 64bit.

I'm in trouble here?

I really could not answer that for you and I am the one here on this forum that has had the Board the Longest , knows the most about it and has put the most time into it but I still am at a loss for what to tell you on the SB600 situation
On my end the board ran my Raptors like DOO -DOO freezing in February slow and painful After 6 different attempts to run Raid with Different Bios and straight shot at single drive set ups 3 different goes at that one I said screw it let other people work on this and diverted my attention towards debugging the Bios for this thread and that has been my Primary role pretty much What I can tell you is that its not DFI's Fault because they can only build to spec with the hardware provided in specs set forth by AMD. The long and short of this in y opinion from what I have experienced which is limited to the first month of having the board is that the SB600 is a worthless pile of steaming sh***t
Now whether or not there has been advancement on the situation with these recent Bios is another story and I run my Areca Raid Controller full time.

Now also on my end this Board with my Hardware config paired up with a Areca Raid Controller the Board is Awesome and I love it!

The only way you will truly see the potencial of this board without the negative side effects of the crippled SB600 Controller is by usind a Deicated Areca Raid Controller and then the board just smokes it off the front line!


What I can tell you is lets forget about this board when I say this is.......The best single Hardware Device I have ever purchased has been this Dedicated Areca Raid Controller I have had this on 9 different Motherboards since I have gotten it and when others faced Raid Issues on Intel while Overclocking I ran Unaffected when others had corruption issues due to overclocking I ran unaffected when others lose their storage data jumping from one motherboard to the next I run unaffected and have lost nothing on my storage array even moving through 9 different motherboards. So you see true Hardware Raid Controllers are expensive but the Areca 1210 is about $310.00 and I can tell you first hand I lost way more than that In time and labor the first go around in losing my storage data on a Raid 1 Array moving my setup onto a different motherboard with different chipset

The problem is your controller (which is a good one) costs about €400,00 in NL. I guess i give the good old SB600 a try, and if it sucks then i will go for a raid controller eventualy.

if it fails, you can use the sil 3132 controller which is onboard as well. this works usually, but you can only connect 2 drives and its limited to sata 1 i think?

Don't know what that works out to in US Dollars but my Areca 1231 Card with the 1gb Stick of Kingston ECC RAM ram me about $1000.00 the one I am talking about as a option for entry level True Hardware Raid Controller from Areca is the Areca 1210 which is about $310.00 U.S Dollars and its a stellar super fast card I owned one before I bought this one and pound for pound its just as fast as this card minus the Burst Rate speed due to 256mb Onboard Ram

Duid you get the Bios Flashes done Oese???? Or did that Bock Beer get the upper hand on you yesterday???? If so what Bios are you currently on please and hows it going? Report in please.

yeah wanted to right now (another bock beer by my side )

left cmos clear after last flash with the /f-switch overnight, then in the morning everything was fine at optimized defaults for an hour..

then tonight some testing..

11/22 doesnt work for me that well, didnt get my ram oced as i used to (1066mhz).. even with 667divider @ 266mhz htt no boot, 533divider works (even with timings set manually).. weird, but i also noticed tighter timings at auto and i remember later bios' contains better compatibility perhaps for powerchip ic's as well?

now back on 01/30, works as always, the 3,2ghz 1,408v stable setting seems to have been a lucky night, don't get that to work again. now again on 3,2ghz 1,45v ddr1066 is obviously the wall for the ram.. 3,35ghz cpu 950mhz ram only gives me about 200points in 3dmark and no performance gain in superpi athigher voltage and temperature so i'll leave it at that setting... or try new 03/12 bios

After proving that 11/22/07 Bios was 8+hrs Prime95 Stable and none of my hardware suffered any damage during the move back to the East Coast (God its good to be Home! ) I am currently testing the 3/12/2008 Beta Bios I'll keep you all posted wish me luck

hehehehe there was a good chance for you to be right guessing, but luckily i managed to stop writing before that situation occured

nice with these results btw! after that and clarifying that my overclock obviously did not suffer from the 03/07 bios as well i'll probably try out this newest one too the next days... normally, new bios' should at least be better then older bios'.. ok i think this is nor always true..

another information i got from the hardwareluxx forum... 1T is possible if memclock is set to auto (had the problem that 1T setting had no effect..)..

ok if your ram manages, mine doesnt.. if this has been known here already for a while exuse me..

1T Does nothing on DDR2 Ram! The only board that I have come across that used 1T properly or decent was the 680i and thats not saying much!

If you try the NEW 3/12/2008 Beta download the ZIP Package boot from DRDOS and type AUTOEXEC.BAT it uses the AWARDFLASH 8.90 but it has the /CH switch in the the bat file so it sees the Hole in the Bios and programs correctly

yeah i always use the drdos disc now and copy the zip-package onto it.. works fine.

the .exe doesnt work under vista 64..



edit: this is bios 03/12 with 1T CR everything else at defaults except all trefs at 127.5ns

ddr1000 is not running 1t, will test the maximum.. perhaps something between 840 and 950 will work, then i could use 3,3ghz or even 3,35 with a perhaps better bandwidth..

1T should work with all Phenoms, I've benched 1000 4-4-4-4 1T at 2.2 vMEM with Phenom, works well.

Well its consistent 5hrs of solid gaming and 5HRS of Prime95 blend and OCCT 1hr high Priority no NIC Slow downs or shut offs................3/12/2008 Beta is STABLE!

I can confirm this. The 3/12/2008 primed 24hrs with settings that were the absolute limit with the 11/22/07.

Is the 1T Timing option depending on the IMC? My RAMs do 560MHz CL4 2T easily but 1T is not possible at all, neither with 2 sticks nor with 4 sticks. With a X2 3800+ it works with 2 sticks, I didn't test if it works with 4 sticks as well.

can anyone tell me what de raid driver update contains, or does.
the file is know as 790FX_RAID_F6.ZIP.
Are know issues resolved, that is installing Vista 64 on RAID0.
Are ppl in this threat running RAID 0 with OS Vista 64
Coming friday i get my rig. MB-CPU-MEM.

Hi 3oh6 have you been able to run the 5000be with the ocz 4gb kit lately?
I'm really interested, am trying another run with trfc upped. Maby that will remove the 308 htt lock

ahhh, you just missed me. i am back to the Phenom for a whole pile of benches but i do have to switch to another Phenom sometime tomorrow or Monday so at that time i will take 10 mins and see if the HTT i can reach with 2x1GB is the same as the 2x2GB kit. before, i had the 5000+ in there with a kit of FireStix PC2-9600s (2x1GB) and 330HTT wasn't a problem but i couldn't get much higher than that for some reason. i will at least see if it gets that high with the 2x2GB OCZ platinums.
