    Who all's running a this board with raid...I've been thinking about doing a Raid 0 with a pair of raptor 150's for my ultimate 64 install. Just don't want any issues.

    no problem with raid 0 i have maximus extreme 2 150gb raptors in raid 0, i have installed on xp ok , straightforward

    Yeah, works fine.

    Just go into the bios and enable Raid on the chipset sata controller.

    There's two - the external eSATA, and the onboard Intel raid.


    Enable Raid in the bios, then go into the Intel storage manager bios to create the array.

    Vista x64 detects it, no problems.

    should have no problem then doing raid on 2x 150 raptors and leaving 2x 500's alone?

    Several people have already posted that raid works fine with this board.

    I am running a pair of raptors in Raid 0 and have been for 2 months...

    Good explanation but a scary one. It sounds like a lot of folks are running some extreme voltage into the CPU via the AUTO setting ASUS uses on the Extreme boards with the CPU PLL. The default setting according to the bios is 1.86 and a lot of folks are running this on air or water.

    What I find interesting is that the CPU PLL voltage doesnt seem to raise my die temp at all. Do you know where the measure point is on the motherboard so I can verify that the bios reading really is that high?

    Infact it is a bios bug because auto value could be 1.5 volts, instead when you set auto, Maximus extreme bios applies a very high random voltage. I set manually this value to 1.5 volts.

    I am sorry but, unfortunately I do not know the CPU PLL measure point on this motherboard.

    It is true that CPU PLL voltage doesnt seem to raise die temp at all, for me it is the same behaviour.

    I found my PLL Controller's temp on the mobo rises if I increases the voltage... using a infrared thermal sensor.

    So if 2 of my cores stop working and my system boots with only core 0 & 1, (core 2 & 3 not showing either in bios or in windows) my FSB PLL might be too low, raising this can reslove my problem, this happens when I go over 420FSB.

    Anyone with BIOS 1001 and 45nm CPU over 490 FSB? i've tryed 6 CPUs and non do 500 FSB (1 QX9650 and 5 E8400) i'm really stating to think about motherboard / BIOS for this issue

    I am using a 2 gig kit of Super Talent W1600UX2G7 CAS 7-7-7-18 with my maximus & would like to run my Q6600 @ 3600 with memory running @ 1600 cl7 the very best i can achieve is CPU 3600/ MEM 1440 cl9 it's like nailing jelly to the ceiling i have spent hours altering & tweaking voltages in the bios (904)
    but i simply cant reach my target could this memory be faulty or does the maximus not like this memory?

    hiya metro it seem 500fsb plus on the extreme is not as feasible as on p35 boards, i have also tried 3 all stop at around 4600mhz, 500fsb stable but over 511 ,like 512-513 fsb very flaky, the only thing i found that helped to bott at 500fsb was disabling transaction booster and setting the relax level to 3 or 4 , then once in windows using memset to lower the performance level again, i think the only way over it is a new bios revision, i have benched 05,03,aquamark at 4603 which was 512 fsb on the e8400 and 3d06 at 4575 mhz (509fsb)

    QX I can bring to about 470 E8400 to about 540, but needs VMCH to do so

    500 fsb was no trouble on my board with E8400:



    Max bootable was 550.

    Max on qx9650 on this board for me has been 465.

    mike which bios you use and what mch volts, and what would it do benchmark wise at over 515fsb superpi,3dmark , aqua etc on the 9 x multiplier

    Aivas nice to see you, whats the max fsb using the 9x multiplier , it seems that 500fsb stable but over 510 is flaky, i am really talking about the max multiplier, thanks

    i have completed 3dmark06 at 508fsb (4575mhz) http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=5040734

    3dmark05 at 514 (4626mhz) http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=3954398

    and aquamark at 517fsb , but any thing over 500fsb it was flaky i have had 2 e8400s and 1 e8500 and they have all topped out at 4500-4600 irrespective of voltage but some of the p35 board owners have had like 4700-4900 mhz, its not a big difference but i'm wondering if the internal memory timings on the northbridge are a bit tighter on the x38 boards than the p35

    I have benched 547mhz spi1m , and also orthos stable for few mins at 525mhz.
    All other benchmarks (3d's , wprime) at 535+ . Try transaction booster disabled 1 , static read : disabled , delayed write : disabled . Mch 1.85V or more if your mb can handle it.

    Thanks Glen, i tested my E6850 that does FSB 555 on P5K3 Deluxe and the max i got on this board was around 517MHz benchable.

    I use transaction booster at 2 or 3 will give it a try to disable it.

    Could you share your settings? on bios 905 i could do 475 with the QX9650 tryed almost everything i could read/think of to get 500FSB but was imposible.

    Now on E8400 i'm really disapointed and starting to think that is a board issue or i'm overlooking something, i could use your wisdom with FSB 530-540 for now im happy.

    I will try to put up detailed settings later today, but I doubt that you overlooked anything. It's my second day on this board and I only ran 1001 so far. I am getting in another ME next week and I will be able to tell more about variances between individual ME boards.

    From my memory NB voltage was about 1.76V, VFSB around 1.55V
    Transaction booster was enabled and at 3, BUT Static read/write both DISABLED.
    Vpll around 1.75V, but again this is all from memory. I'll get more detailed later today when I plug in the E8400.

    QX9650 I tried very hard to get to 500FSB as well - no go ( no clue what the max FSB on my chip is on another board)

    One thing is for sure X38 is def. not the right board for E8xxx FSB clocking 965 would do worlds better in terms of FSB

    @Glenboy - I'll post some 9x multi benches later as well will have to spend some time with the family first

    EDIT: One thing to do when switching between CPUs - make sure to clear bios / load default settings and start form scratch with bios settings

    Quick question...

    Has anyone here removed the stock cooling to replace thermal compound, if so, did you have any issues ?

    If I remember correctly I had some issues trying to remove the stock cooling on a Formula SE as the heatpipe seemed like it was welded to the northbridge.
