    Hi all just a quick question about if this motherboard will support running 4gb of ram @ 1066 as it only shows as supporting 800mhz in the spec`s. I thought maybe a bios update would sort this out and if so what is the best bios to use 14? any advice is welcome..

    Yes 1066mhz ram is supported. To make your ram run at that speed you will have to set it up in the uguru area in the bios via ram divider.

    i'd say that you are doing very well if you are getting close to 1225 mhz memory speed...if you had a bios like DFI's which has many, many bios tweaks for memory settings, you would probably do better...BUT...1225 is nothing to sneeze at!

    I have a VID of 1.30, is that good?
    no. thats very bad. I nave vid 1.2000 and get 3,6ghz on 1.36v.
    And I must have a "bad" board or chip. I just can't get 3.6Ghz stable, and my voltages are even slightly higher than yours.
    I have tested 3 Q6600 with VIDs: 1.2000, 1.2125, 1.2725. And result of 1.2000 you can see in my sig. 1.2125 got 3800max, and 1.2725 got 3600max but unstable. So it is not guilt of abit, this is a cpu limit.

    Any time you reach a max memory frequency, without maxing out the memory is upsetting.

    I was just hoping you had some odd tweak for the board that I had missed, seeing as you know this board so well.

    This is only PC2-5300 Micron D9GMH...$22 a stick.

    I guess I'll be going either DFI X38 or Asus X48 DDR2.

    I hope you are not correct. My VID is 1.2750 and I get 3.6Ghz with random instability! Can anyone confirm or deny this?

    I'm doing something wrong or my hardware is "bad". Too many people hit 3.6Ghz with lower voltages across the board.

    Just purchased a new CPU, motherboard and ram from my local Microcenter that had a deal going on. First got an Asus P5K vanilla board that worked great for about 5 days before it started throwing up windows errors and eventually got to a no post state... Never came back from that, so the next day I went back to Microcenter and exchanged for the IP35 Pro, I have much higher hopes for this board. (Maybe at least a year or two...)

    Anyways, I've done lots of overclocking on the AMD side of things, but I haven't had an Intel to overclock since the Celeron 300A days.

    I'm wondering what people's experiences have been with the 16 beta bios and the E8400s on the IP35 Pro? I am currently running the 14 BIOS and even though the bios reports CPU temps wrong, other applications are able to report it correctly.

    I am going for a mild 4ghz overclock with this CPU and it seems to take a bit of voltage to get it there. Setting 1.5250 in the BIOS gives me a 1.44 at idle in windows, 1.40 under full load. Is the beta 16 bios any better at attaining stability while overclocking the 45nm cpus? Also, can I be sure the voltages I am seeing currently are accurate on the VCore, anyone compared between the 14 and 16B03 / 16B04 bioses?

    I am just a little hesitant to flash the latest bios because of a few problems I've heard here and there with regards to memory compatibility and the memory I've got is NOT good overclocking memory. Bought it because for $75 at a store 4GB is tough to ignore, and besides I just want 4ghz and leave it at that.

    I have a few questions on voltages, was wondering what the ideal voltages would be for this E8400 with a FSB of 446? I currently have the following voltages:

    VCore = 1.5250 bios ~1.45 idle - 1.41 load
    MCH = 1.25 bios ~ 1.26-1.27 idle/load
    CPU VTT = 1.23 bios ~ 1.25 idle/load
    ICH = 1.12 bios ~ 1.14 idle/load
    ICHIO = 1.50 bios ~ 1.53 idle/load
    CPU GTLREF 0&2 = 59%
    CPU GTLREF 1&3 = 60%
    DDR2 REF = +2%
    DDR2 = 2.100 ~ 2.10 load/idle

    I was wondering what CPU GTLREF is ideal for this CPU and the IP35 Pro? I can get my CPU stable (Orthos blend for 8+ hours) by giving it more voltage, but right now CPU-Z is reporting 1.45 when idle, and 1.41 under load. If under load the cpu starts getting into the 1.40 range orthos will fail.

    When I raise the CPU VTT voltage it seems to actually drop .01 V on the VCore, so I have stuck with 1.23. Not sure why that is, but perhaps someone can shed some light on that.

    First post here so go easy on me, I'm not a noob to this at all, just refreshing on the Intel side of things. Thanks in advance for any help!

    Edited to add:
    Also figured I'd throw in my VID: 1.0375

    Ouch, that sounds a little high, I would check it to make sure the heatsink is making good contact with the PWM surfaces, it sounds like it may not be contacting everything. My PWM temps never go above 50C, normally at idle they're around 42-44. I haven't done the bolt mod or even removed the heatpipe at all yet, didn't see the need as my temps weren't getting real high.

    well your processor doesn't draw anywhere near the power his draws. But even then it is quite hot I only got near 90C when I had no fan on the pwms with no bolt mod. What kind of fan do you have on it and where is it positioned? I kept mine cool running a Q6600 by strapping a 75CFm 80mm fan angled straight at it so the air couldn't go anywhere but on the heatsink.

    I have a crappy 40mm fan from my nForce2 Asus A7N8X-X northbridge ziptied to the side of it, pointing towards the back of the PC. I can't fit any bigger fans in between the back of the PC and the TRUE heatsink.

    In February, I'm dipping in to my budget to buy 2 new 40mm fans, an 80mm silent fan (to replace the loud fan) on my RAM, and a heatsink/fan unit for my 8800GTS.

    Thanks for pointing that out silverphoenix... I was about to panic about my temps. I think they are so high because I'm pushing 1.5650v (BIOS setting, windows in 1.50-1.52) throught the CPU. I think I'm just going to accept the fact that 3.6Ghz is not attainable and try 3.5Ghz... /cry /cry /cry

    Whoops, very true, a 65nm quad core is going to draw much more current then a 45nm dual.

    Mystic: I'm using a IP35 Pro and all has been good here so far.

    This is the same system squito posted on earlier in this thread. DIMM Slots 1 & 2 are completely dead, so dual channel is out of the question. We did the bios update, loosened up some of the bolts, pretty sure like Ace said it was a cold sodder joint and doing the heatpipe mod did the job on it. However, I was able to acheive this out of it.

    Memory is G.Skill 2x2GB F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ. It has been stable for 24/7 for 4 days. However, to do 32m superpi or prime95 I had to crank the voltage, and it would still crash, so I gave up on that. I put it back to stock today because my replacement Commando is coming in a few days and after seeing the results some people are getting with them I am excited. We will be sending back this board and getting another ip35pro. Before this e8400 I had a xeon 3060 and 4x1gb crucial pc6400 and it ran 3.6ghz/ddr1000 no problem, it's definitely a good board choice.

    **EDIT**

    Here's my VID

    Anyone here aware of an app that will let you change the multiplier and vcore from the command line? I've tried CrystalCPUID 4.14.2.404 and that does allow me to change the FID and VID from within the application itself from the Intel Speedstep menu, but if I try to do it by passing it on the command line, it is ignored and not set.

    I'd like to setup rivatuner to bring my VID and multiplier down when CPU usage is low, just seems that finding a command line application to do so is not easy.

    Here's my results last time, working on lowering voltages now:

    I know my overclock isn't as high as others, but really 4ghz is more then enough for what I need it for and I felt this should be a safe overclock on an air cooled system. I did let that orthos run out to 8 hours before I rebooted and brought voltages down, just forgot to get a snapshot of it.

    I cant even get my quad core to a stable 3.6ghz on this motherboard. My settinga are

    VCore 1.55v
    MCH 1.37
    CPU VTT 1.31
    ICH 1.09
    ICHIO 1.55

    The more voltage I put into the CPU the more it gets stable but the consequence of that is extreme heat.

    You could try upping the MCH voltage some.

    I personally gave up on 3.6Ghz today. 3.5Ghz seems to be super stable so far. 7C cooler on CPU and 6-8C cooler on the PWM without even reducing the voltages I used for 3.6Ghz.

    You might try a little more voltage on the MCH. At least on my board, when I up the voltage cpu temps and pwm temps seem to go down, also the 3.3 and 5V rails seem to go up. Odd but I'm still playing with uguru and watching my volts / temps to see what affects what. FWIW my MCH is set at 1.41 and is being reported at 1.42, and I'm running 4GB of ram. I have had my MCH as high as 1.56 and all it seemed to do was create heat for me.
