Valve and NVIDIA Offer 4 Games/Demos : First Slice Free to GeForce Users

Valve and NVIDIA Offer Portal: First Slice Free to GeForce Users

The most recent Steam Hardware Survey shows more Steam gamers play on NVIDIA GeForce hardware than any other graphics platform. In an effort to further support this popular PC gaming configuration - Steam games plus NVIDIA hardware - Valve and NVIDIA have entered into an agreement to collaborate on development, distribution, events, and more. Effective immediately, all NVIDIA gamers may receive a free copy of Portal: First Slice, a special version of the award-winning new game from Valve, by visiting www.steamgames.com/nvidia1 and "Taking the test." Steam will then auto-detect the presence of NVIDIA hardware and make Portal: First Slice available immediately, free of charge. To make it easy for all NVIDIA customers to redeem this offer, a link to the Steam offer will also be included in all NVIDIA drivers.

If anybody is wondering, it's just an extended demo.
"To exist in this vast universe for a speck of time is the great gift of life. Our tiny sliver of time is our gift of life. It is our only life. The universe will go on, indifferent to our brief existence, but while we are here we touch not just part of that vastness, but also the lives around us. Life is the gift each of us has been given. Each life is our own and no one else's. It is precious beyond all counting. It is the greatest value we have. Cherish it for what it truly is."

I wonder if you can trick steam into thinking you have an nVidia based solution, when really you run an ATI card

Thats a neat deal, even for an "extended demo".
By the way, what is an extended demo, of portal. The entire first half of the game?

Stop spreading nonsense: NO game has a fixed playtime. Game "X" is 20 hours to user 1 , user 2 says it's 1 hour. I didn't play Portal yet so i don't know what's it for me. My favorite games give me 100's of hours enjoyment.

portal is an awesome game! wish they would think about some sort of sequal/prequal to it but i'll be happy with the portal gun in ep3! first time through only took me 4 1/2 hours or so... down to about two now... seen a youtube video of a guy finishing in 18 minutes!!
so for anyone who doesn't have it this "extended demo" is prolly a good convicer to buy it... for the rest of us.. maybe we should just go run through it again!!

    Windows 7 Pro
Watercooling: Swiftech GTZ, 320QP with yates, D5 and Black PrimoFlex LRT tubing

6+ years and still running strong!! Not the most Xtreme anymore, but ya gotta do what the budget says ya gotta do!

I just downloaded it and it's loads of fun, although it's not very long..... Does anyone have any idea how long this demo is supposed to be? Mine just stops/crashes after 'test 10'.
EDIT: it takes about 10 minutes to complete this demo that's a bit short.....
